ParticipantHey, it’s LA Sheriff, not L.A.P.D., where they hiring model was discussed. County mounties ๐

ParticipantPeople move within the US – that’s the story of this country. I don’t see a net population loss in CA since the 70s, quite the contrary ๐

ParticipantIt’s probably warmer on the water than on land, though, since water moderates temperatures pretty well. (Assuming a well-insulated cabin, since it also conducts heat away very nicely.)

ParticipantI’m rejoicing because local NJ market is still near the bottom, and the holy-daze are coming, meaning fewer muppets interested in placing competing offers. Merry X-mess to me.

ParticipantI googled it — apparently, they have room for several people and their carry on luggage. A body scanner would be pretty useless under those conditions.
This is an over-engineered solution to a problem, but nothing more than that.

ParticipantThose look to be an over-engineered solution to a problem of having a one-way door. Much simpler would be a large revolving door (the better to accommodate passengers and luggage) with a motion sensor that sets off an alarm if someone passes through the “wrong” side of the circle. Or even a turnstile with motion sensors to prevent backflow.
This is some parasitic govno-mint contractor selling TSA an overpriced, overly complicated device. Wonder who’s getting the kickbacks and how much they are. To be clear, they are NOT at terminal exits, but at the exit of the secure airside part of the terminal. They are also not body scanners.

ParticipantAnd make the security deposit large enough to cover potential fines within reason ๐

ParticipantMy take on it is that if you find a steady job or have a business near Temecula, it makes sense to buy a house there. If you’re gonna be commuting from Temecula to San Diego — 90-110 miles r/t, at say 25 cents per mile in an efficient car, then you’ll be spending $25 per day including wear-and-tear and fuel.
That’s $500+/mo, or about $100k of house value at current rates, plus the time you’ll never get back, never get to see your wife and kids. I’m guessing 1.5-2 hr each way with traffic north of SD being what it is.
That kind of commute is like me living near the Pennsylvania border and driving into NYC. It can be done, people do it, but why do it unless you’re a glutton for punishment?

ParticipantI have no problem with a condo — also, what ZIP codes are you searching? It’s not that hard to find a 3 bedroom condo between $300-400k in some of the older areas. (ask our favorite ursine lady for where exactly ๐ )
spdrun
ParticipantWhy do you need 3/2.5/2 — what’s wrong with a plane-Jane 3/1 or 3/2? SD’s weather is nice enough that you don’t really need a garage to protect your car from a freak snow storm.
spdrun
ParticipantAren’t you exaggerating a bit? Common charges and property taxes in SD are still pretty low. What’s wrong with a two or three bedroom condo? Come to think of it, I saw a 3-bedroom house with 1 bedroom guest cottage (rental income) in back for just north of $400k recently in a pretty good area.

ParticipantHelp them get a duplex or triplex once they graduate. If they have other people paying their “rent” and can live basically rent-free, then student loans become much easier to pay.

Participant(that, and they were both stealing stuff…and one was having sex in my bed when I was gone!)
Did you ever consider acquiring a pet snake and training it to sleep in your bed? The footage of roomie’s head hitting the ceiling would have been Youtube-worthy…

ParticipantStill think you need to ride this out. People out there are seriously hitting the bubble crack pipe, again (will we ever learn?). Higher interest rates will likely be your best friend.
I’d say that the crack turned to cyanide somewhere around August of this year. Hopefully, we’ll end up with a milder (or not) version of the hangover after the 2010 credit.
