ParticipantI’d prefer to have me and mine do well. Then I can worry about everyone else. Self-absorbed? Maybe.

Participant.

ParticipantNice for whom? Considering what you claim to be doing, wouldn’t you prefer a tepid economy where you can keep buying property and renting it out, rather than having all of your opportunities going *poof*?

Participant… or many more lawsuits. 🙂 If some Harvard prof is willing to sue over a $4 Chinese menu item, imagine what would happen over a $100 jaywalking ticket.
But of course, the poor commit more crimes…

ParticipantDepends which criminal and which cop. I don’t consider selling loose cigarettes a real crime, more of a minor infraction on the level of speeding or jaywalking.
Any cop who arrests someone for this sort of thing is a blithering idiot who every taxpayer should hate. We’re talking about maybe a $10 loss of revenue for the state vs $150 per night to keep him in jail until he sees a judge in a few days.
As far as cops vs criminals: really depends which cop and which criminal. A cop might be worth more to society than Charles Manson. But likely worth less than (say) a jaywalking doctor, even if the doctor is resisting arrest.
Enforcement SHOULD be discretionary and as minimal as possible unless someone is actually being harmed. It’s not only a question of over-militarization. It’s an issue of zero tolerance equaling zero brain.

ParticipantI read that technically, he’s wrong, as the 3x judgement rule only applies to judgements above $25 in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

ParticipantSorry- I thought she dropped a letter on the step of a 2/2 condo that you owned and you were planning to be helpful in saying that there were some available for cheaper.
On their side — no harm in trying. If someone who’s owned their home outright for years, is otherwise of sound mind, and has no idea of the value bites, more power to them.

ParticipantOffer to sell it to her, write a contract for $475k, and tell her she’s getting a deal. If she’s paying cash, there might not be any appraisal.
Nothing wrong with taking advantage of people with more money than good sense. By her letter, she doesn’t sound aged, infirm, or or unsound mind.

ParticipantI believe that banks also charge for teller visits.
Not any bank that I’d care to deal with — losing an ATM card and having to PAY for the privilege of access to money would likely cause me to go Alec Baldwin on someone.

ParticipantWhy force anyone to do anything? Just charge slightly more to cover the labor costs of an in-person transaction that can also be done through other means.

ParticipantSSD! If you need more storage and don’t want to use the cloud, you could always stick another conventional HD in the DVD bay and use an external DVD drive. There are kits to do this, depending on laptop.

ParticipantSome versions of Flash Player have memory leaks — look in Task Manager for memory and CPU usage.

ParticipantNot so fast — it will take a while to even save for 3% down, considering that many people in “less stellar” areas are living day to day. And have credit card debt to pay down before a bank will even look at them.
It has been calculated that the lowering in gas prices will only save the average American $600 per year. Doesn’t buy much house, especially if interest rates rise.
Bonus points if SUVs and less efficient cars turn into status symbols again, thus nullifying any possible saving for the average schmoe.

ParticipantYou’d probably have made quite a mint picking up property from some half-bankrupt SFBA dot-commer who lost his shirt, underwear, and pants in 2001 🙂
