Participant

Vacations are over rated. We prefer staycations :)
I’m definitely not trying to convince you otherwise, but for our family, it’s definitely the opposite. My wife says we can get as nice a house as I want, but we better still be able to take nice vacations!
To put into perspective, that means I have roughly $40,000 less to spend on my house. Ouch.
I dig nocommonsense for being a good sport and for not possessing a thick skin, unlike some others who have sought “advice” here. But I have to go with sdc. A few years ago my family took a trip to Oregon that could have been certified a disaster of sorts – stomach flu for all, parking tickets, rental car issues etc. But three years later, I’m really glad we went, and I really like my shot of Multnomah Falls that’s hanging in the hallway.
If I had your buying power, I’d be tempted to buy into that next level, but I’d really try to be more conservative. That’s what I’m trying to do in my own search, but it’s harder with our limits.

Thanks! You hit the nail on the head. That’s the main driver for our purchase.
What about those “priceless” family vacations, especially the ones that don’t require months of financing after you’ve come home and gone back to work?

Participant
I’ve been very very frustrated with the government’s meddling, and don’t know if they’ll ever let up. We’re extremely close to throwing in the towel and instead biting the bullet. I resolved not to stretch too thin to buy a house, but now we’re at the brink of signing a contract. It’s a dream house in terms of size, floor plan, and location, which is the only reason we’re pulling the trigger. I wish I could say we got a great price, but I think it’s only fair or good at ~$224 per sq ft ( a big house).
We’ll be paying almost half of my income (single income family) a month towards mortgage and will have zero cash left. If it weren’t for the mello rous, the loan is actually quite affordable to us, but with the extra $1000 tax a month it’ll be tight.
Curious to see how many Piggs will take the bait?
