Does anyone have any thoughts on how to go about finding a good rental in these areas given that is what we’ll do for the first year? I’ve used Craigslist, Trulia, Zillow, Californiamoves and lots of Google searches but not finding a lot I like. I’ve also considered contacting realtors selling houses that have been on the market for a while to see if the owners would be interested in a one year lease.

It is considered a suburb of Oakland rather than SF. My impression (so take it for what it is worth) is that is doesn’t compare to places you mentioned in your last post. Not somewhere I would look if I were searching. But, again, that’s all based on impression rather than fact.
