Participant

Zeitgeist,
It has been a bi-partisan effort, including Clinton (NSA Carnivore/Echelon programs, rendition, expansion of domestic surveillance programs) and, obviously, Bush (Patriot Acts I and II, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary rendition). Just for shits and giggles, research how many cameras there are in New York City monitoring your movements.
This isn’t paranoia or the “Loony Left” or a “Vast Right Wing Conspiracy”. Most of this has been done in the guise of protecting Americans, but the reality is an ever more intrusive government with ever expanding powers and the ability to oversee nearly all aspects of our lives, including access to health and financial records.
I don’t think the jump to Nazism is quite as big as you imagine, unfortunately. As Sinclair Lewis said in his 1935 novel “It Can’t Happen Here”: “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross”.
Obama has invoked Jesus far more than Bush. True story, look it up.
Good points Allan, though I don’t agree with all your words. Obama may have invoked Jesus’s name more than Bush’s; I really don’t know, but wow you just made me realize that the religious discourse in this country has quieted-and I like it. I’m going to enjoy my short time without Ralph Reed, Dobson and Perkins filling the airwaves with their hypocritical and hateful bs. I say short time because they are not gone forever in all likelihood with that pesky notion of democracy.
I don’t care if Obama has invoked Jesus’s name more- it’s what he’s done or not done with it that I care about.
Wow its true i just thought about it again; its nice not having a bunch of evangelist in the White House right now. We actually get to think about our huge problems and not hide behind the hope that we are simply the chosen ones and that Jesus will save us and show us the way as we look into his eyes and see into his soul, Sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Is the world getting creepier with our privacy being impinged more? Sure. I don’t know what we can do about it aside from use our democratic government to elect leaders who would step by step dismantle such intrusive programs. I don’t think its loony to think our civil liberties are becoming more infringed upon.
I think its loony to call Obama a Nazi, because if Texas experienced a severe disaster Obama would be there in a heart beat. If he were really a Nazi- he would just let it sink, save all the Hispanics and relocate them to red states and enjoy the electoral vote upswing. Seriously. That’s what a bunch of damn Nazi’s would do. Then when people became outraged- he’d just shoot them. Take their homes, money and turn their skin into lamps. Yep, he’s not a Nazi.

ParticipantZeitgeist,
Have you visited Buchenwald or Auschwitz? Seriously? Have you ever spoken to a concentration camp survivor? Have you ever spoken to a Cambodian who fled here during the purge, or any other person who has lived through a governmental massacre? I guarantee you that any one of those people would have given their left leg to live in America, right now at this very moment than live through the stomach churning, mind breaking carnage they witnessed.
Are you seriously putting Obama who will be out of office as a guarantee in at least 7 years in the same field as a man who systematically tried to erase an entire ethnic group or groups?
I know this is pretty pointless, because nothing will change your mind. Keep it up Zeitgeist you only help the other, because you show the absolute ridiculousness of the far fringe right. Your words will only ease the minds that think like you and keep those who differ even farther away.

ParticipantHah Jf, growing up in Texas I remember the rumor that Bill Clinton was the illegitimate son of Jimmy Carter. My friends and family even had pictures and I have to say they did look similar…yet it was never proven.
Any way your post took me down memory lane.
