Participantdbapig if the coverage is so great why don’t federal employees have it?
My beef is not with affordable health care or a national plan. My beef is not even with higher taxes to support it. My problem is all the controls being implemented for it. Read what Arraya posted, the plan is so rife with special interests that it is pathetic. Do you know how much money AARP will get because they are an insurance provider? Cant you see why they are pushing it? AARP members could receive reduced care but AARP will make a MINT because they will be able to peddle the policies.
I am okay with a plan believe me. Why the hell does it have to be slammed through in a matter of 10 weeks? What is the rush? When Mass went to a plan it took them 2 years of studying and working with the industry to implement.
Can’t a plan be crafted that is a little less Orwellian? Can’t people at least choose to participate in it rather then be fined? Can we at least choose to not undertake insuring people who are not legal citizens of the USA?
Wouldn’t you think that if we are going to undertake such a plan that perhaps it should be as well thought out as possible and crafted with diligence and care over a bit longer period of time?

ParticipantAN and Zeit you guys are both correct. Truth be told myself/wife/kids will save ALOT of money should this bill be passed. I am very open minded and agree 100% that reform is needed but to me this is a heck of alot more then reform. Just my opinion. Once this is done it cannot be undone and that is what is scary. My wife has a client that is a well known cardiologist and that guy said this will substantially change the treatment for many people he treats. He basically said god help those people whose treatment decisions will now be made by the government.

My parents are definitely rapidly declining in health and they are a perfect example of the 5% of the population that contribute to 50% of the healthcare costs. When I asked them if any of them actually read the measures they said no. When I asked them if they knew that all federal employees were exempt from the plan they didn’t know that. When I asked my own family, if they are concerned that the existing plan that my parents are under could be changed or actually consumed by the government health plan NONE OF THEM KNEW.

ParticipantBring cashiers checks. Have them made out in your name. If you have a winning bid you simply sign them over to the trustee. It is not rocket science. Take a few denominations. You get the change back along with the deed in about 10 days.
