ParticipantI think there should be a credit extended for watching football on Sunday.
Call it the sportsfan of america economic stimulus package. This money will be well reinvested by consumers in cable or satellite football packages, pizza, beer, chips, sodas, consumer electronics, etc.
You can also attach it to cash for your crappy tv iniative to buy a new flatscreen.
Then we will initiate a cash for crappy couches as well so places like Jeromes will thrive!

ParticipantHang in there pem…. perhaps we will get a slowdown for you to at least get to view some decent homes.
fcep obviously I am pretty outspoken in my thoughts. I guess in your mind that disagreement with the current party in power is equivalent to racism. By no means was the party before Obama any better, in fact to me they all stink. I don’t hate Obama the man, or Biden the man or Bush the man, or Cheney the man, or Pelosi the woman (well that one is borderline). I try to formulate my arguments and frustration simply as they are but if you take it as racism then that is unfortunate. It doesn’t make me change my views but it does add to my frustration.
So if I am not on board with the way things are then I am labled a racist? Honestly I don’t think that is an accurate portrayal.
Also BTW the bailouts started under Bush before Obama was in play and I didn’t like them then either.

ParticipantHi Enorah
Thanks for the response and I agree with most of what you said. I am not a fan of either party. As PR pointed out I grew up in a strong strong strong democratic pro union household. So yes PR you pretty much did peg it. At some point, maybe 10 or 12 years ago I did think that the GOP was the way to go, but that didn’t last long and I went full tilt libertarian. To me government is not the anser for anything.
Enorah I guess I don’t really agree that all outside me is a reflection of my self (or this self, or a self from another life) but I think I do understand what you are trying to put forth.
I think that yes love is the answer but there have been periods in our history whereasmuch as love is the answer, evil was defeated only because men stood up and fought back. I am not saying that our current administration is evil. By the same token I am sure that those Jews in Nazi Germany that could have said love was the answer would still have been put to death in a gas chamber regardless of how much they loved.
I agree that love and faith, compassion and kindness are the foundations with which society can flourish. One would say these are MANDATORY ingredients. So yes love is the answer but I think other things are needed as well. However yes above all government is not the answer.
Anyways thanks for the response.

ParticipantI agree with both you guys of course. PR I am way past everything you mentioned. What is far scarier to me now is the playing field. I felt that in previous years, (or what now seems to be a previous life) the playing field was the population verses the government. It didnt matter if the govt was right wing or left wing. There was the media that acted “more or less” independently and they exhibited some shreds of inegrity. As much as Walter Cronkite was against the war in Vietnam, he at least portrayed some sense of integrity.
So what scares the hell out of me now is that it is gone. I mean gone with the wind. Also as I said, there is this very much, follow the leader regardless of what he says, who he associates with, or which czars he appoints, attitude that even many if not all members of my own family have.
I have NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE. It is bizarre…. Look many of the more liberal minded posters here are smart guys. None of them have responded here. Even with the health care posts the most common argument I heard was we have to pass it now because this is the best chance we have to pass it.
What the heck? That is the best we can do?
*************
I guess I mislabled the topic of the post because it is not the mainstream media. I also find a common thread that younger people, 30 and below seem to have a much different outlook then those of us 45 and up. Public employees have a vast different outlook then small business owners and independent contractors. It is so different it is chilling. The sense of entitlement and that we deserve to be taken care of, that big business should be punished is very distinctive along various demographic lines. I think kids of the 60s and 70s have a different outlook because we were exposed to a variety of events that children of the 80s and 90s were not.
In the end history repeats itself and lessons are learned but the time it takes for corrections will be years and perhaps decades.
Fundamental mistrust of capitalism and big business is well deserved and those entities obviously reached into the cookie jar so much that they pushed the populace beyond the limits. Society including the press has decided for better or for worse that the mandate for a social agenda change must occur now. It is what it is… I can only hope that some mainstream media outlets will try to do a better job then two college students to report what is really happening out there.
