ParticipantI guess so Rus… Kind like closing time at the bar.
The homeowners that do that are usually selling their home within a few years.

ParticipantI just got back from ice skating lessons with the kids. We are going out to play a little foot hockey and then play some tball.
I don’t subject my family to watching the games but I do have the dvr rolling so when everyone goes to bed tonite I will get my fix in.
The hard part is making sure I don’t inadvertently hear the scores.

ParticipantGetting back to the original posters question, I think the impact on property valuations will be minimal unless your property is near the high speed route or stations. In that case there will be a negative effect but it will depend on the environmental impact.
As for the thoughts on the high speed rail itself I think that EconProf nailed it square on the head. That and I tend to agree with FEK.
Of course the headlines are littered with cases of massive projects that always come in underbudget correct?
The reality of the situation is what Econprof said. Now if govt FORCES you to take the train, then things may change. So much for liberty…
I think all that money would be better spent developing more energy efficient individual modes of transport.
I am not as much against mass transport as I am for applying solutions that fit the practical and more real parameters of the society.

ParticipantThe best time to buy is when you find a home that you really love and can afford it. The best time to buy varies from person to person.
All to often, people determine the best time to buy as measured by the overall market conditions which is incorrect. So most people incorrectly apply what we all learned in basic chemistry:
Best time to buy = Bottom of the market
Wrong.
The market may be at a bottom while you may not be making as much income as you need. Conversely you may have a pile of cash but the market is not at the bottom.
Furthermore trying to identify the bottom of the market is hard. Many many people whiffed on that call who regularly post here. Odds are that we have more downhill sledding ahead of us.
