ParticipantIndeed there are alot of ways to make money. It really takes heart, effort and you have to not fear failure. Many people I know who are very successful all have had failure prior to that success. Now for sure this guy who is trying the motorized surfboard is trying and good for him…he is a bonehead for having a negam loan on his condo and then buying a downtown penthouse… not sure if he could have tried to pull a dumber move but what can you say.
However I know people who have successful businesses from hi tech stuff to selling hot dogs at fairgrounds. I believe our society is schizophrenic in that manner…yes by far we are the worst consumers on the planet but I also do feel as if we are the most entrepenurial as well.

ParticipantBaynative –
First off I would advise you to talk to your lender in both cases to discuss the situation. This is by far the most important thing to do.
Second, there will be good advice on this board, but take it with a grain of salt and seek qualified professional guidance on the situation.
Third, yes any loans made to you that have not been used for original purchase money for a home are loans that the lender can come to try to get back from you. So even though the refi you did was for another home, technically (I believe) that they can come to try to get it. Again, this is just an opinion so don’t take it as anything more then that.
Fourth, repeat of first, TALK TO YOUR LENDERS! Best of luck.

ParticipantYeah pretty crazy stuff. I just spoke to our friends about 40 minutes ago and they are still able to sneak in and out to thier home from escondido via highland valley. I am sure that route will be closed pretty soon. I would agree with esmith, don’t go sightseeing.
I agree Rus… I don’t want to bang on the people in charge but I am not so sure that the afternoon assumption that winds will die in the evening during a santa ana is/was a great one. The engineer in me always leans towards worst case assumptions for design parameters rather then best case. Again though, what can you do right? Like I said, I do not know much about firefighting so I do not know how much progress is made during the middle of the night anyways whether winds are blowing or not.
What really sucks is that I would be both fires are due to some arsonist. (Okay that is a very speculative statement) How or why people get thier kicks off of that stuff is beyond me. Yes I do know Cedar Fire was caused by a dopey lost hunter…

ParticipantRus I assume you are keeping your eyes open given the mess down in portero. I had a meeting down in Bonita this afternoon and saw that one from far away. Left there at 5 pm and went straight out to our friends who live in way way southwest ramona off of highland valley. When we were there late in the afternoon it was blowing but had died down as it got later…then shortly after sundown (it was hard to tell if it was sundown but it was dark instead of brown grey) the wind picked up pretty heavy… The thing that was kind of dufus was that these people said that thier neighbors went to the meeting in ramona today with fire officials and the prevailing opinion was that the winds would die down this evening… not the greatest assumption in my book. Then again there is not alot they could have done since there is not much firefighting you can do at night anyways.

ParticipantIf you think you found good deals now then it is pretty much written in stone that you will find absolutely great deals in the future. If you are in a crummy 1 bedroom apt then splurge a little and find a nicer rental for another year or two or three…Enjoy your life a little more. Then sit tight and you will most likely find a smoking deal if you are looking in the Chula Vista area.

ParticipantHave to be honest arenter and say no I don’t know a whole lot about that subdivision. That is out off of 76 as you head east. At least it is relatively to the west which is good. I have had listings in the condo land out off of Douglas. The homes look okay on the MLS but yeah the proximity of less desireable homes is something to always be concerned about. The demographics of Oceanside is going to play out like that.
A few things to note. I believe areas like this will get hit pretty darn hard and relatively soon because while they are not far out like Temecula, they are out there pretty far. For instance, 3372 Toopal is listed right now at 575k-599k. Well it had just sold for 660k on 1/27/06. It has been on the market 44 days.
Now I believe pretty much all of the Oceanside homes will take a pretty good hit (and they already have taken a hit) but more to come in the next 1-2 years due to the outlying proximity of them and the fast runup they had.
If you can stretch another year or two I think you will find some fabulous deals up there.
