Participantbut why should i even have to think about putting socks together? im running out of the will to do stupid things. matching socks is starting to seem like maybe one of those.
also, it can be distressing to lose a sock in some cases. i’m missing a wool pantherella sock, i have the one, waiting for its mate. they were kind of expensive. i think they’re like 20 or 30 dollar socks?
now, one is missing, and i feel bad.
It’s been weeks. I think it is gone.
if I had only this type, I wouldnt even know if one were missing.
not only would i never have to match socks again, i would never have to know if one is missing.
Furthermore when one sock fails, you can toss the one and hold on to the other until he fails too.l, and he can live out the remainder of his useful life with a new friend.
Why would anyone ever have a variety of mismatched socks.
I could see say 7 pair blue, 7 athletic, and 5 wool?
But this sock chaos, it’s another example of the perils of too much choice. Basically we have every conceivable sock, but that traps us in sock hell. I blame capitalism.

Participant
I went to Costco yesterday. They have a Mikasa bone China set for sale. I’m not big on buying things, but I love high quality items at commodity prices. It’s amazing that consumers today can enjoy objectively better quality china than rich people of 100 years ago.
If the masses van have it. I dont want it.
I believe the rise of minimalism is a response to the reality that even the poor can get pretty much anything.

Why not agree to it? Defense contractors, Wall Street firms, law enforcement contractors, and other social parasites take handouts from the government without qualms. Why shouldn’t the little guy maximize their handouts?
It’s actually an interesting issue, why an individual might be troubled while a group or entity would not

If shoes and socks are good for feet, why dont we wear gloves at all times?
The toe is rendered useless through encasement, like a digit in mittens.
I’m torn.
I despise shoes and socks.
And yet my feet were much grosser after years of barefoot and flipflops.
Still my foot care regime was lacking.
Not sure where I stand.
The foot must be strengthened and respected, on par with the hand.

Participant

They’re making money off of either margin fees or not giving the most favorable buy/sell prices. Possibly both. I’d honestly rather pay a commission and get the most favorable prices than have the fees be hidden and non-transparent.
Lol… Unless you have several millions or your family does, you will never get the most favorable prices….

Globalization causes global warming.
It is a fact not a political statement.
Capitalism causes global warming. Growth, endless, is by its nature unsustainable.
Humans and their insatiable desires.
For tshirts.
Globalization could be sustainable or unsustainable.I read a quote that really hit me recently.
IT IS EASIER TO IMAGINE THE END OF THE WORLD THAN THE END OF CAPITALISM.
I think that is a good line to go out on.

If we wore out everything, including socks and underwear, we would each be wealthier, and the planet would be better off.
Underwear should last many years

Free money. Why not? lol
Actually, it’s free $100 for each account you and your relative(s) and spouse opens per beneficiary.. If you can convince 10 relatives to open an account for your kid, $1000 free money… lol.
100 isnt enough nowadays 4 me to choose a bank.

Yes, but that $400 is really $200 after you get that 1099 at the end of the year. Plus there’s theoretical no limit on the number of 529k accounts you can open to get that $100 credit, if you were planning to open one or more anyway. And it’s easy peasy to rollover amounts among accounts.
True.
Still. I’ll do it for 400 pretax

I will be throwing out some things from the fridge, but I intend to take a few calculated risks.
All my clothes fit. I am very strict about my waist measurement. It is never permitted to exceed my clothing. My clothes have occasionally gotten tight, but that to me is an urgent situation. I am way too cheap to buy new clothes simply for fat.
But how did I get so many suits????!!!
They pile up. I buy them in little spurts and rarely discard. Usually a hole triggers a discard…occasionally a hatred of the suit. Some feel worse than others.
I use underwear till shredded but buy when I see a deal. I currently have therefore 1.7 remaining lifetimes of underwear, although some is shameful…I never toss a pair of underwear until the holes impair utility.

ParticipantWell csu is cheap. But if u do send them away to school, which might have some benefit, it’s about 100k a kid, times 3, 300k, it’s not nothing.
I’d say csu should be 1500 a year for any kid, not taking into account parents cash.
