ParticipantI own a kettlebell but it was too big. Couldn’t get into it. Maybe soon.
Going to buy a climbing rope for the yard.
At a playground this weekend, I watched oldest kid climbed up a pole with no feet just hands from sitting on the floor. Got jealous. I could do a couple feet upward but only from standing. Seated felt not possible.
All this activity may be cuz I’m envious of his teen power.
Other things too. I read an article in I think mens journal entitled ” the squat is the king of exercises”. I also now squat a lot. All the time in fact. I hope to squat like a native Asian within a year.
I am influencable

ParticipantInteresting article in Discover mag this month. Lots if new research shows lecturing is extremely ineffective at teaching science.
Cool new hands on interactive lessons w immediate questions and answrs via handheld devices works better

ParticipantMy gym membership is a screaming deal. I pretty much only shower there and the hot water saving practically pay for the membership. Plus I don’t have to clean it.
Women are more attracted to guys who are bigger.
Men are slightly I’ll at ease around stronger men.
Be the big strong guy. It’s just a better way to go thru life.

ParticipantI’m on the http://www.twentypullups.com program, week 4. Goal is to get to twent consecutive pullups. Hoping to be there by thanksgiving. Got my little 9 year old on it too. That little musclehead pumps out the pullups astonishingly well. We had the good fortune to pass s marines recruiter booth at a college fair. Do a certain number of pullups win a prize. My 16 year old busted out 17 w just fingertips ( rock climbing bonus). The little guy did 5. Crowd pleaser. He was doing better than most of the newbie recruits manning the table according to them.
Lots of pullups. But the deadlifts adds something to my life that has been missing.
The ancient Greek tale about the farmer who carries a calf every day until soon he us carrying a bull…this is weight training…adding some every time…
Can’t really get that with weeds.

ParticipantThis is a great reason to buy a house. If I hadn’t done so last year I’d be pissed. Now I don’t care.

ParticipantForget the moral crap. It’s better to have 20 perc down. We never wouldve gotten the bitching short sale we did if our offer didn’t come in withconv 20 perc offer. The monthly payment/ interest is much better. We couldn’t invest the diff and make more than the monthly savings.
It doesn’t matter about the evilness of the system
you’ll do better with 20 percent down, in general. Not always but generally.
In retrospect I wished we’d put 26 perc down to get out of the jumbo loan.

ParticipantDamn . I think my testosterone levels were extra high lifting this morning. I wish I had discovered the deadlift and the squat when I was 18. I think my whole life wouldve been different.

ParticipantWhile waiting and saving, start lifting weights.

ParticipantI’m not saying don’t buy the car; just put a good body into it.

ParticipantCliche midlife move; buy a powerful sports car.
Maybe the new cliche midlife move should be to add a couple dozen pounds of muscle.
Didn’t the midlife dude in American beauty hit the iron?

ParticipantBig strong and powerful. Explosive power.
This is good.
Weightlifting alone also seems to maintain aerobic fitness. I’ve done no aerobic exercise for six weeks and then went to the track with my kid and ran my usual 7.5 min mile.

ParticipantI have been at the intense lifting for just 9 sessions, about 3 weeks, and lesser lifting but a lot of pushups for 3 weeks before that, and eating a lot of protein and resting a day or two after the workout. I’m used to physical intensity from bike riding, horrendous 200 mile weekend trips in highelevation, long distance touring type riding… Different but I know how to exert myself. Except I always hated weights.
If you need inspiration, in just 6 weeks, and basically 3 hardcore weeks, I am bigger, such that people notice. I look different.
If youre like me thinking running and biking are all you need perhaps you’re in denial like I was. When I really think about what I desire, What I want is to be a large imposing muscley action figure, a body that makes other men slightly intimidated and makes women weak. Big thick legs like tree trunks. Thick buttocks. A broad and powerful back. Large shoulders.
I see no reason not to make this body.
