ParticipantSurvival of the fittest.
I don’t think the strongest of us survived for eons by being nice.
Now we are thoroughly domesticated.
Lance is still an animal.
I doubt there will be any revenge upon him, any more than there is upon a leopard or a jackal.
The only reason to be good is if it works for you here and now.
Clearly this is what worked for him.

maybe this is a vast anti gun conspiracy to make fake accident at gun shows to make gunownership seem more dangerous than it really is..
And you expect that to support your position on gun control? Why? Is it a challenge to find comparable idiocy w/ people being injured w/o a gun? If that is the case.. you’ll lose. Youtube is just littered with videos of people being idiots with out the help of a firearm.. some being pretty badly injured in the process.. Try combinations of autos, skateboards, bicycles, snowboards, roofs, partial snow, ATVs, tall buildings near pools.
Maybe we should regulate squatting w/o a cert or licensing because improper form, inexperience, too much weight.. can send you to the hospital…
Perhaps. But if I squat incorrectly I don’t pop every bystanders vertebrae.
Yes, but because of how insurance works… they pay for it!
Good point. Still I have a greater incentive to not hurt myself, since I love my back, than guntards have not to spray buckshot at a gumshoe, since that’s just an accident costing others pain.

ParticipantNever.
Heroes.
Goes way back.
Quest. Hero admiration…May be ingrained in who we are.

Participantim pretty sure financially he’s still going to win. he’s worth over $100 million he’ll get the baddest ass lawyers who will continue to grind plaintiffs into a fine mealy powder till they collectively try to settle for pennies on the dollar, but they’ll only get fractions of that,as he’s protected all his wealth these years diversifying hiding stuffing and moving money around all over the world.
he will still come out on top money wise.
and karmically, since he has no human feeling, you cannot hurt him.
there is no karmic revenge.
lance wins again!
woo-hoo!

Participant5 years ago my answer would have been pay off the house.debt is bad.
today, no.
diversification requires that you keep the mortgage.
that’s my final answer.
i would sleep better having the bank own a good chunk of my house.
it could be destroyed ina n earthquake, blaha blahblah….
maintain a Plan B.

Participantit just si kind of hilarious that it’s at a “gun show”. personally, I would feel at risk of accidental shooting there, and Im sure all the gun proponents would tell me how silly that is. not as at risk as i did out by lk elsinore when those people were just kind of shooting, but still, surrounded by dudes with guns, not knowing if they were loaded, i’d feel like, hey, this is not cool.
and im sure everyone there is like, yeah man, we are gun connoisseurs, here at the gun show. the guy who shot the shotgun and peppered the three people, including the deputy sheriff wasn’t even handling the gun improperly yet, he was unfastening the case when the gun went off! beautiful!
accidental discharge tally went up, apparently, there was a third incident in OH:
http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/19/us/north-carolina-gun-show-shooting/index.html?hpt=hp_t3
speaking of youtube videos, supposedly my kids tell me there is a video of a gun safety expert giving a gun safety lecture when he accidentally shoots himself in the leg.
i think I win with that one, if it exists. hard to argue he’san idiot. hard to argue the guy unfastening the case actually is an idiot.

Participant
It seems like in Lance’s case what made him what you like is what made him an asshole. Take my kids amazing 3rd grade teacher. She drives 45 minutes a day, one way, to handle a classroom of kids like very few people could or would. She faces an an abominable administration/system everyday. She’s been doing it about 40 years. If she got cancer and made it back to work would she be as good as Lance? In my eyes shes would be better, even if Lance never doped. She does it without the prestige, without the money, and is a genuine and sincere human being.
Well… That’s nice but… The world values athletic performance.
And there is great drama and beauty in bicycle racing.
And even 2nd place doesn’t get you. $100 million empire.

ParticipantBut that’s not it. It’s not that he was merely better.
He was literally tough as nails.
Competitive is not enough to describe him.
He had that inner vital indescribable strength.
Lying in a hospital bed, close to death, cancer of the testicle his sponsors abandon him, he is nowhere , alone, skin and bones , weak, he crawls his way back to the top to spit in the face of the people who left him to die.
Guts. He had guts. It wasn’t just that he was faster. It was that that motherfucker would not quit and could not be beat.
Indomitable.
Who wouldn’t want some of that?
