ParticipantA dog is not valuable property.
It has zero resale value.
A dog is actually a financial liability.
By saving your own dog you are losing money.
It is purely your own attachment feelings that are valued over the life of the foreign human.
This is what I am sickened by.
I guess I’m not done. Dog owners ime are not vegetarians or particularly animal lovers. They eat pigs and such. They just love the company. They like the way a dog makes them feel. They imagine the dog has a special irreplaceable love for them.
A love they’d likely sell out for a good steak on a regular schedule. I dispute the dog would save you. The dog would be easily distracted from the choice by a squirrel or meat. I’m not even sure a dependent dog slave can meaningfully be said to choose.
but there are other Goddamn dogs. And your dog will move on when u die. Vquickly. Unless you made him super neurotic with your extreme neediness and weird fussing over him. Your dog is a moral vacuum who would equally love an evil owner as a good owner, who would happily accept treats to be trained to rip human babies apart and eat them.
Indeed any loving family pet could be trained to bite and eat human flesh in less than one week.
The foreign tourist, probably not. At least for kibble. For this reason and many more, the dog dies.

ParticipantWell.
I give up.
I can’t discuss this. Your dog is replaceable. There are millions of other dogs out thrre. You’ll find another dog to love.
Each person us a unique universe in himsrlf.
Even a foreigner.
A dog!!!!
? A Goddamn dog!!!!scaredyclassic
ParticipantTo begin with, no unattached dog has any value above market price if any. It’s only value is the emotional investment one human imparts to the dog.
Those feelings… that attachment…will never be something that reasonably can be chosen over another person’s life…it may have a monetary value for its loss. But it is not so valuable as to equate a feeling, a relationship, with a human. For instance one may have a sentimental attachment a strong feeling for a family heirloom that is irreplaceable and laden w emotion. But it’s value is never equated with an actual person.
Maybe this all got crazy after planet of the apes….

Participant
I’d say that “most” human life is more valuable than a dog’s. A genocidal mass murderer? A serial killer? A swindler who probably drove some to suicide? I have my doubts.
Not that I’d personally press the switch for the electric chair, but I’m not sure if I’d go out of my way to save their lives (over any other life form) either.
Human v. Dog. I cannot believe this is even debatable. You may believe in capital punishment. That’s a separate issue. But to equate human life with a dog? Basically you are saying the property of another –dog — is more valuable than a human.
I’d Need Time To Fully Articulate How Fucked Up This is…BUT it is….and the world’s definitely going to the dogs….

ParticipantOur dogs flatter us.
In an insecure age, the dog enjoys full employment.
I despise dogs.

Participant
I’d save my own dog over a foreign tourist. The key word is foreign, hence not one of us.
If this isn’t a joke, I am saddened.

Participant
Depends on the dog and the person. You’re telling me you’d choose Bernie Madoff’s, Jeffrey Dahmer’s, or Adolf Eichmann’s life over that of a loyal dog?
All human life is more valuable than any dogs life.
I think this is something now in dispute in society. But it is fundamentally true, and it is perverted in a deep way to believe otherwise. I think the bible so states. Most philosophers also concur.
I think it’s just us who have come to this humanity hatred by equating dogs which we have bred and created to be “loyal” or more accurately, utterly dependent on us, with our fellow man.
I hate dog love.

ParticipantIf you have a dog you really should review insurance.
There’s exclusions on some policies … worth comparing…
I know you think your dog won’t bite.
Ours really don’t sem like biters.
I think the truth is all dogs are biters.

ParticipantLooks like my homeowners policy covers bites. 2500$ deductible tho. Ouch. Course on the bright side I’ll save money on dog food once they’re dead. Not sure where the breakeven point is but probably less than 2 years. So from an investment viewpoint the 2500 is really making a decent return. My wife made me buy this semipremiums dogfood so monthly I don’t know 85 for two dogs? Guessing. Plus it made it harder to get away.
She’s really sad.
I’m so done with ever owning a dog again.
I will never ever consent again.
side note….
Wilfred. TV show . So funny.
It’s the apotheosis is of the anthropomorphization of dogs.
Definitely worth watch for dog lovers and haters alike.

Participant
I actually hate dogs myself as well and you aren’t alone. I agree that the owners are even worst since like a kid, a dog is a dog and will act stupid, kids, you expect to act a bit better. I gotta say I hate owners who “think” their dog can be off leash, but their dogs are always running at me or across the street and I can’t be happier if they got ran over.
Some dogs are super mellow and are very well trained and behaved, but I think the majority are just annoying and is a 20k/ (just checked) 30k lawsuit waiting to happen.
I actually brought data as well!
http://www.iii.org/dog-bite-claims-infographic.htmlNearly 30k per claim avg and you can bet your insurance company will DUMP YOU after you get sued and they pay out.
Good luck trying to get coverage for your larger dog (if you have one of those) afterwards…
Also read some states like NY, a minor can still sue you years after till they are 18 if there is scarring.
For the few people who have super well trained dogs who never misbehave and can be controlled and listen to directions, great! For the 99% others, keep them on a leash!
i guess im ok with an off leash policy if the dog owner is ok with me killing the dog if it comes within4 feet of me. even that’s really too close…

ParticipantGrrrrrrrrr…..
Ruff…
My wife’s dogs allegedly recently bit a neighbor. That’s why I’m on an anti dog rampage. However I have always disliked dogs. They are just a giant liability. I do not find them cute or amusing. Almost all are very poorly behaved. Loud. Dumb. And spoiled.
Everyone also thinks it’s other people’s dogs that are bad but their dog is good. Nobody b thinks they have a shitty dog News flash…your dog is probably irritating too. Excessive barking. Jumping on people or just sniffing them. Peeing in public places. Running around and making me nervous as I don’t know for sure your dog is cool.
I was once approached by a vicious sounding dog on a country road. I knew that loose dogs were there and had a small hatchet. I raised it to protect myself. The owner was furious that I was prepared to defend myself against their loose Dog barking in my face a few feet from me.
Typical. One step closer and idve brained the dog and the owner probably would’ve shot me. After all their baby was just barking.
