ParticipantFat is energy.
Energy costs money.
Some people are better and worse at storing it.
But ultimately that fat is energy.
The only way we get energy to store is food.
What we do with the energy varies.
But it only comes from outside us.
Otherwise we would be creating free energy. We could live for free.
And there is no free lunch.

ParticipantI was reading a weightlifting trainers page recently. He said he much prefers training even very out of shape 50 plus year Olds v young people.
Why?
50 and up people actually played hard outside and have some tolerance for physical exertion and discomfort. They are trainable.
Young vealraised people are fucked.

Participant

Cars probably wouldn’t cost that much less without financing. They have long useful lives and help generate income. Financing at low interest therefore a good idea.
Cars are a status symbol for many, and another large segment of the economy. NEW cars are not a necessity.
If there were no new cars produced for the next 10 years, I don’t think that there would be a shortage. Older cars would be kept running, people would still be able to get around and there would be a lot less debt carried.
If financing was not available, I think that cars would be selling for less.If there were no new clothes produced for 10 years would people be walking around naked ??
Reduce
Reuse
Recycle.Well…used car prices would definitely go up without new cars.
Basically. I don’t believe big change is possible anymore absent catastrophe.

College would cost a tiny fraction of its price without financing.

ParticipantI have no idea what the future holds. But focusing on monthly payments strikes me as far more reasonable and prudent than focusing on prove which is in my view kind of meaningless.

ParticipantForget health.
I have a 50 lb weightvest. Sometimes I strap it on and go for a hilly hike. Just for the fuck of it. It’s very tiring. Swesty. Really dripping sweaty. Exhausting.
I crash on the floor after 3 or 4 miles and it takes 3 gin and tonics to revive me.
I feel so awesome when I just rip off that vest. Light as a fairy sprite. http://Www.weightvest.com
I can imagine it would feel equally awesome to dump 50 lbs.
Screw health. Just feel so light and floaty without the extra 50.

Participant2 hours of movement a day is reasonable.
In facts it’s weird to think of not kind of moving for that period every day. Sign of bad deal in society.

Participant
I was wondering about this the other day as to what is causes the proliferation of ‘medical’ weight loss centers in the lower economic area near me.
They’re popping up like yogurt shops a couple years ago.
Is it just the trendy fad weight solution. Or did ACA change the coverage rules for it or add enough people to coverage that previously weren’t covered that there is a whole new market to exploit?
no. many of these clinics are dealing legal speed. adults are also getting legal speed by getting diagnosed with ADD. SPEED. amphetamines. just like when it was legal back in the 60s! these are like med. marijuana clinics, but for SPEED. CRANK.
it’s crazy…
great book on the history of speed ive only thumbed thru, but really want to dig into:
ON SPEED, by rasmussen.
a history of amphetamines in america.
this country LOVES speed and it will never go away. We are a manic depressed overweight country that will always have a deep craving for a pep pill.
I’m not sure amphetamines are so bad. Unpleasant, for normal people I think. But for the beat down sluggish tired sad folk? MAYBE it’s good

ParticipantI briefly had a job in sales for a trade school. I was pretty honest and just laid it all out.
I remember this other longterm sales guy who lied his assistant off and was pushy beyond belief.
He signed up lots of students.
Me …very few…

Participantcolonscopies severe risk is .5%, colonc ancer .22 % ina given year. and there are less invasive alternatives for finding colon coancer.
so…why did i think i needed a colonoscopy/ why didn’t my primary car person try to talk me out of it, or at least advise on risks, prior to the referral?
once i made my way to the colonoscopy guy, she’s not going to try to talk me out of it, probably…
wonder how many decisions just get shuttled along like this.
wife says, doctors in general dont have time to really sit down with patients and go through it in detail. not reimbursable, that discussion. so, we just refer.
weird. making me think this system is not set up for maximinizing health…

Participant
Better that they have to ask permission than be allowed to take without asking. Anything that makes law enforcement’s life even a slight bit more onerous is good in my book and a given judge’s decisions are subject to scrutiny by other judges which might just decide to throw a case out.
Culture has swung too far in the violence industry’s favor since 9/11. Time for some pushback.
agreed. just some reality check, in case one envisioned a really detailed, reasoned process in the warrant seeking department.
it’s also amazing how many people will “consent” when cops lean on them, since they have “nothing to hide”.

Participantit does seem like there is a difference between a new subsidy, and one that’s been in place a long time.
a subsidy that’s been in place a long time isn’t going to affect behavior, except int he sense that people fear its removal, since as noted above it has already been reflected in market price for the item.
a new subsidy is a different story.
maybe there needs to be different terms for each type of subsidy.
