Participantis money made legally different money than illgotten gains? its all pretty fungible. is it the risk of detection that make the illgotten money worse? or the har to society? what if there is no harm to society but the money is ill gotten. is it still not a good thing? or am I wrong in rading your implication that money made not legally is a bad thing.
why will making more money help you be happier?

Ugh. Ok.
It may sound unappetizing now since you are pre-grandkid, but I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy the moments they spend on your lap watching old videos. And be thankful you took your collection digital.
You’re a man who enjoys his family and I have no doubt that trait will continue in the coming decades.
but…they’ll laugh…

Participant
I converted all my parent’s 8mm and all my home VHS to digital about 2 years ago.
I am very glad I did and recommend you do too.
Not because you’ll watch them often – I don’t because as you accurately point out they can be painful to watch – but because of the next generation.
We have grandkids now who are trying to figure our their place in the universe and family tree. They are just getting the concept that they will mature and that, at one point, their parents were little kids who lived with their parents. They’ll jump up on my lap while I’m at the computer and request that we watch old family movies. Watching old films and saying “there’s your dad when he was your age!” helps make it all click in their mind and certainly makes it more real than mere words.
If for no other reason than the above, I’d recommend you convert to digital before you start losing tapes to old age.
Participant

CAr, there is value added in selling things back and forth. Not zero sum.
Think of the eBay business model where we just mail junk back and forth to one another.
Speculators, in general, are not creating the infrastructure by which people trade (like eBay does). And the people who create the infrastructure do not need to speculate. Speculation is zero sum.
Perhaps its value is on entertainment. To stave of boerdom.

ParticipantThere’s a funny part where I’m pointing at the small kids and bellowing YOU ARE A GOOD BOY in my most authoritative voice.
Kids thought that was hilarious the other day…

Participant
Man, I guess I’m missing out all the fun… As an enginerd I think I have 1 suit… And the last time I wore it was to a fundraiser dinner with my kid..
The last time I wore a suit for work was….Jan 2002 for an interview…And then afterwards, all my interviews were just in semi-formal collared shirt and dark pants….And even then, I think I was slightly overdressed.
So how much does one expect to spend for a “decent” suit….roughly?
used on ebay, 75 to 250new, 200 to 600.

I don’t usually need a suit except at weddings, funerals, a very occasional work purpose, etc. I didn’t really know how much a decent one cost, because I’ve only bought cheap ones (and then only one every 5 or 8 years). I was thinking somewhere between $400-$1000. I looked at Brooks Brothers on line and they have some on sale for $600-$650. I was leaning towards that, based on recommendations here.
go to nordtrom rack with him and have him try stuff on? some discount there….also when you get a nordstrom credit card you get 100 in free tailoring every year which is pretty cool actually.
ive been through a lo t of suits and do bestw ith light wool. they last a while but do get shabby with heavy wear.
i had a favorite suit wher e i wore a hole thru the elbows. that was kind of satsifying.
