Is it safe to be Mexican in Compton or southeast San Diego by the 4 corner of death? How about south side of Chicago?
Good point. I’d say Mexicans should come to Temecula.
scaredyclassicParticipant

Joni Mitchell never sang about Utah or temecula.
Move in day at UCSB. Makes CA look pretty damn nice. The futures uncertain but these kids look ready to do something.
Man the dads look like hell. Hard to raise kids. I was playing hackysack on the lawn while the kid was moving in and security came to check if I belonged.
Very suspicious, old dude hackysacking.
Congrats on UCSB! My daughter ended up UCSD but really wanted to go there. Heck! I wanted to go once I saw it with her
I saw the other parents looking proud. I tried to suppress my pride but I was having difficulty. Some parents were embarrassingly proud. I felt like their kids must be pretty smart, because this is my smartest kid. It was such a nice varied looking bunch of humans it did make me feel good about Calif.

scaredyclassicParticipantTemecula is about a Utah.
scaredyclassicParticipantSitting in a park in Paris France
Reading the news and it sure looks bad
They won’t give peace a chance
That was just a dream some of us had
Still a lot of lands to see
But I wouldn’t want to stay here
It’s too old and cold and settled in its ways here
Oh but California
California I’m coming home
I’m going to see the folks I dig
I’ll even kiss a Sunset pig
California I’m coming home
I met a redneck on a Grecian isle
Who did the goat dance very well
He gave me back my smile
But he kept my camera to sell
Oh the rogue the red red rogue
He cooked good omelettes and stews
And I might have stayed on with him there
But my heart cried out for you California
Oh California I’m coming home
Oh make me feel good rock ‘n’ roll band
I’m your biggest fan
California I’m coming home
Oh it gets so lonely
When you’re walking
And the streets are full of strangers
All the news of home you read
Just gives you the blues
Just gives you the blues
So I bought me a ticket
I caught a plane to Spain
Went to a party down a red dirt road
There were lots of pretty people there
Reading Rolling Stone reading Vogue
They said “How long can you hang around?”
I said a week maybe two
Just until my skin turns brown
Then I’m going home to California
California I’m coming home
Oh will you take me as I am
Strung out on another man
California I’m coming home
Oh it gets so lonely
When you’re walking
And the streets are full of strangers
All the news of home you read
More about the war
And the bloody changes
Oh will you take me as I am?
Will you take me as I am?
Will you?September 14, 2021 at 7:57 PM in reply to: Retirement Planning: Reducing Return Target and Risk? #823183scaredyclassicParticipantSelfies are particularly grim. There should be a safety on the phone to prevent accidents.
National phone assoc. I’m sure will oppose any phone restriction.
Phones don’t shoot people. People shoot people.
September 13, 2021 at 12:57 PM in reply to: Retirement Planning: Reducing Return Target and Risk? #823179scaredyclassicParticipantFrom the neck down, I look like a trim 35 y.o.
or better, really than I was at 35. Except for a few skin tags, and grey pubes.
Neck up however is terrifying. I can barely stand to see my face. Like the face skin just gave up. Jowly. Wrinkled. Decaying
I’m positive any future grandchildren would be grossed out. I really don’t look in the mirror much anymore.
The level of nose hair is truly mystifying.
I used to sense if I wanted a 2nd wife, I looked like maybe I could match with a 30, 35 year old. Now I’d look very odd with anyone but an old lady.
I recall being disgusted by the elderly as a child and now…it’s happening..to me…!!!!???
Do I smell like an old man? I still have hair, but it’s…old people hair!!!
I can see how women get suckered to pay billions in face care creams and treatments. This is scary shit!!!
I sense this is going to get much much worse.
I’m ok with it.
but maybe I should stop by cvs and check out the face creams. Moisturizer costs need to be accounted for in retirement planning.
I also have this new thing where if I get up too quickly from bed, or sitting, I get dizzy. I asked my Dr. Wife what it was. She said
You old!!!
What should I do?
Don’t get up quickly.
So no more jumping out of bed. Sit up. Check out your head rush, stand up slow
Wtf.

Late 50s. I look like my maternal grandpa.
September 10, 2021 at 10:51 AM in reply to: Retirement Planning: Reducing Return Target and Risk? #823166scaredyclassicParticipantWhen I look in the mirror I do not recognize myself.
September 10, 2021 at 8:57 AM in reply to: Retirement Planning: Reducing Return Target and Risk? #823164scaredyclassicParticipantI have never had any health problem.
The thought of medical care terrifies me.
I recently experienced some arthritis. Death is coming for us all
scaredyclassicParticipant

It’s so dang sunny in so cal. I haven’t had any skin cancer yet but I’m definitely concerned.
The best hats I’ve found are Tilley hats. I have a few. Really expensive but washable and high quality.
I’ve also recently taken to wearing Palestinian made keffiyehs, the Hamas headwear, but made in the last Palestinian factory. No Chinese knockoffs
Hirbawi is the name. So awesome.
I had been very pro Israel up until a few weeks ago when I had a sudden epiphany and am now pro Palestine, which led me to hirbawi, which is why I now often look like an afghan rebel.
If you have other sun precaution gear that’s good, let me know
since I use to enjoy hikes in interesting hot regions here in North America (i.e. Death Valley, the grand canyon, down in baja, etc.) as well as abroad,… learned long ago that Arab head covers were indeed very practical
if you’re cloth head covers, you might find this interesting
https://www.rothco.com/category/tactical-shemagh-military-scarves
(I have a few myself)
PS something to consider chemical sunscreens aren’t that good for the environment
https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/news/sunscreen-corals.html%5B/quote%5D
No on the rothco. Imitations. Buy only original Palestinian head wraps from hirbawi factory in Palestine. Last keffiyeh factory in palestine. Not ripoffs.
scaredyclassicParticipantIf it was more lucrative, I might be interested in shepherding as an old man. I talked to a shepherd in a local preserve who was watching 100 plus grazing sheep for weed control. He seemed to be having a good day. Obviously, need good sun coverage.
Nice how no humans were involved.
I think I prefer goats tho.
scaredyclassicParticipantI think the answer for me will be to keep working as long as I’m making decent money, am not too age impaired, and I can drag my ass around without too much difficulty. Kind of like the pre retirement era. Work, then die.
I didn’t believe it when I was younger, but serving others may be the purpose of living. I’d rather theoretically help pay for day care for grandchildren than be day care for them.
I’d rather give than take, not because I’m a morally superior person, but because it’s more pleasurable. Maybe it’s actually less moral, for this motive.
