The full video (that one is edited) is just so awful; you can’t watch it without crying or feeling physically ill. I hope the driver and every person who walked by her is haunted by guilt over their action and inaction.
Interesting culture, one that often assumes that good Samaritans are unlikely; that anybody helping out must be doing so out of a feel of guilt. If anything good comes out of this, it will be a shift in that culture.

AIPHS has higher scores than Preuss. But I guess if the weaker students at Preuss drop out, then their scores might be just as high as well. Preuss is also another good example of Charter school working.
In my opinion, neither of them use a method that could scale to all public schools. The premise, stated or not, is that if you get enough students from disadvantaged situations to succeed, it would propagate out to the entire community.
Sounds like trickle down economics.
RhettParticipantIf you want a case for comparison in San Diego, you should check out the Preuss School. And even then, Preuss has a *much* strong emphasis on retention than this school you’ve found.

RhettParticipantIt’s become painfully obvious to me that this thread will never be forgotten.

Ditto. Stock up on non-perishables when they are on sale (or I am at Costco). Keep around a lot of frozen chicken. But our family is a bit smaller, so this is easier to do.

RhettParticipant
If you go to grad school, pay the big bucks and go to a top school. This way only 1/3 of your education is expensive and you still get the big-name school on the resume, and you get the better education when you are more mature and actually interested in learning something.
I do not know of a single graduate program in engineering, at least among any of the top schools, that costs the students anything. Stipends probably are at least $30K (and maybe well over that) at any of the top programs.
