You are all over the map here. Nobody has said that there aren’t hard-working illegals here…they are just going about it the unlawful way. We can’t call them law-abiding because they broke the law to cut in line and live here- a slap in the face to all those that are still standing in line to do it the lawful way. You also need to consider that a boatload of the money that they make is NOT spent here in the US, but rather sent/wired south of the border. Who are the real beneficiaries? The businesses and the illegals (and their families in Mexico). Most illegals don’t pay taxes; yet they get free education, schooling, health care, and other services from us legal taxpayers. I pay over $6000 per year for health care alone…and the service is crap because the system is over-stressed from all the illegal freeloaders. Ever have a medical emergency lately? Prepare to sit and wait a few hours in the emergency room and pay through the nose when your done. Just feel proud knowing that a good portion of your $4300 dollar emergency room bill is helping to pay for all the baby deliveries of illegals – who get it free of charge, of course.

rankandfileParticipantI am trying hard to keep from laughing here. Of course your like for like just happened to be outside the MLS and can’t be tracked.
You think buyers are more optimistic in spring than in the doldrums that were last summer? Complete apples to oranges comparison. Comparing summers with summers and springs with springs would make a little more sense, don’t you think? Why don’t you tell us in your next post that the days on the market is only one day off last year’s peak, George Chamberlin.

rankandfileParticipantThe “stop the teasing” defense is old, tired, and not effective. Furthermore, this guy’s own family members had said he was a cold, reclusive kid ever since he was young. Many of his roommates at VaTech tried to reach out to him, but this guy just didn’t want any part of it. And what sort of message does that send to kids growing up? It tells them that it was not their fault, that they were backed into a corner and it is alright to kill anyone that is in their path. I think it is safe to say that ALL of us have been picked on at one time or another while growing. That doesn’t make it right to kill people.
I agree that there are some people that can be saved by timely intervention. However, the sooner we realize that not all human beings are good, that some are truly evil, the better off we will all be. We should not leave it up to Big Brother to protect us every waking minute of the day. We should be given the power to defend ourselves when our lives are in danger. This is the fundamental, God-given right that Ted Nugent was speaking about.
rankandfileParticipantIt’s all about decentralizing self-preservation to the level of the individual. When we put all of our stock into having the government and “authorities” protect us, and take away an individual’s right to protect himself, we are only setting ourselves up for trouble.
Like Ted noted, the gun-free zones apply only to the good guys and gals. Those that are not good or otherwise law-abiding people will find a way to obtain a gun in some way and bring it into the gun-free zone…and then it’s easy pickings on all the good people who are forced to be unarmed.
Although I do not have any stats to back it up, I’d bet that legal gun owners are some of the most responsible, law-abiding members of our society.
There are at least two positives to allowing more gun ownership: (1) more individuals will be able to defend themselves, and (2) would-be perpetrators will be less likely to stage a killing spree knowing that there is a much greater chance of others having the same (or more) fire power as them.
rankandfileParticipantI wasn’t going to say too much about the potential housing crisis until I heard that a majority of the victims were Hispanic and African minorities. How dare the establishment take advantage of these poor, helpless minority groups!
I think we need some pre-election year legislation from Hillary Clinton or Barak Obama that will help to rally the minority base against their viscous white Jewish, er, I mean oppressive lenders! – [as said in my best Hillary Clinton Southern accent] – Power to the Rainbow Push Coalition! If all else fails, at least Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson will have some billable work for the next few months.

rankandfileParticipantI would love to see the sale of homes provided in an open atmosphere. I am skeptical, however, and feel that the real estate industry will do their best to either gain some sort of stock (control) in it or try to subvert it somehow. Control the database (MLS) and you control the game.
rankandfileParticipantMazayako hit the nail on the head. You’ll hear and read of those offering up lame-brained excuses of why the prices have gone up, but do not be fooled – it’s simple supply and demand.
Such was the case for the past several years, as speculators bought up a large chunk of the supply of homes. Now there is a huge glut in supply and the speculators have moved on to more fruitful investments. It’s just a matter of time before home prices come down to more realistic, historical mean levels.
Be patient though, it’s like steering an oil tanker. The processes are already in place for a steady decline…they have been at least since August of 2005, the time at which the NAR calls the peaking of prices. Notice that there are many posters here noticing price declines of 15-20% or more declines here in SoCal, not to mention the huge inventory and extended day on the market. Yet the mass media (CNN.com, et al) continue to focus on the NAR who show their stats that home prices have declined only 1-2% nationwide? Such media will also pay heavy mention to many markets that have appreciated in value, such as East Gish, South Dakota or Backwoods, Oregon (made up names). It’s all very misleading if you ask me. Just remember who buys all those ad spaces (realtors, bankers, etc.) with the media and that will tell you all you need to know.
I’ve said it before: there are many, nay a majority, of folks out there that stand to benefit from falsely inflated home prices: local, state, and federal governments, politicians, radio, TV, and print media; realtors, appraisers, bankers, brokers, investors, current home owners, retailers, auto makers, developers, contractors, the list goes on and on. Basically everyone except current non-home owners. Feel free to chime in if there’s any group I left out.
rankandfileParticipantThere should not be government incentives for marriage. Since there are, they should also be allowed for all people who decide to form a civil union in the eyes of the government.
With that said, I personally do not agree with the homosexual lifestyle. I feel that it is a choice and not something we are born with. I would love my child if they decided to go down the homosexual path, but I would not approve of it.
The best analogy that I can relate this to are those of a drug addict. If my son had a drug problem, I would still love him but I would not be happy about his situation. This is not to say that I am not tolerant of the homosexual lifestyle. However, there are many people in this world who feel that it is a sin and unnatural to partake in homosexual intercourse. I don’t mind that people do what they want behind closed doors. However, I personally feel there is a gay agenda and that it is marketed like any other product or lifestyle that is trying to increase membership. How would you feel if there was a Heroin Addict float in the Rose Parade with a bunch of druggies walking down the street marketing and promoting the heroin lifestyle? On the one hand you want to be tolerant, but on the other you feel like it’s being shoved down your throat.
rankandfileParticipantThe Democratic Party today is not the same as the esteemed party of Truman and JFK. It is now the party of Michael Moore, George Soros, and Rosie O’Donnell. Nice transformation. That’s like a caterpillar metamorphosing into a cockroach.
rankandfileParticipantDon’t you realize that Perry and the other liberal Kool-aid drinkers want to get us in a catch 22? If the 6 party talks do not work, and NK sets off another nuke, they’ll claim that they are not working and that we did not intervene enough. If we go to 2 party talks directly with the DPRK, and they don’t work (i.e., NK renigs again), then American looks like the lone bad guy and it’s all OUR fault.
This Democratic tactic is similar to what we have seen with 9/11 and the war on terror. The liberals complained that the Bush administration did not know/do enough to thwart the 9/11 attacks. “We should have seen this coming” they would exclaim. In response we implemented the terrorist surveillance program, Patriot Act, military tribunals, tighter border security, and the war in Iraq to minimize attacks on OUR own soil. How was that received by the Democrats? All but one of them (Joe Lieberman) fought the Republicans every step of the way. Joe Lieberman has been ousted from his own party and is now running as an Independent. That should tell you which party has shifted their stance on issues the most since the WWII era.
rankandfileParticipantWe can either hold our breath or drown in debt. I'd rather hold my breath, thank you. Do you have any other data samples or arguments aside from a biased viewpoint of a 20-year industry veteran? I am still waiting for more compelling arguments from you and others in your industry as to why I should not wait to purchase a home. Now that's something I won't hold my breath for.
rankandfileParticipantYou have a point, Perry. The current valuation, I am sure, is not based on future decreases in the housing market…a time and value at which these units will actually sell.
Although we look at this company and shake our heads, I feel sad in a way for all of the contractors affiliated with it. I am sure that there are many small companies that heavily rely on the income they will were supposed to receive from this bankrupt company.
