Error: Eight states have “minimum service laws” that require REALTORS® to provide a level of service many Internet discounters can’t afford.
Fact: “REALTOR®” is a trademarked term and should never be used synonymously with “real estate agent.” The intent of minimum service laws is to ensure consumers receive a minimal level of service from licensees.
… NAR supports all business models and favors none. NAR’s 1.3 million members include REALTORS® who work on a full-service basis, as well as those who consider themselves to be limited service, fee-for-service, minimum service, and discounters.
Never use REALTOR® synonymously with “real estate agent” (except when we do it two paragraphs later).
I do value stability and safety for my family. But what kind of stability might my children have if, while we are ensconced in our dream home for the next ten years, 50% of our neighbors are in over their heads? Will families fall apart due to financial strain in front of my children’s eyes? Will all the kids in the neighborhood become the latchkey-type after their moms go back to work to make ends meet? How will the bank-owned and otherwise vacant homes in the neighborhood be secured?
My biggest regret regarding the boom is the sociological effects due to come from the bust.
