profhoffParticipantAmazon has great prices, but their rate of delivery defects is I think too high and with such a large, big-ticket item, it’s risky.
Costco is better because you can order online return to the store no questions asked or just pick it up in the store and return to store if you aren’t satisfied.
To figure out the best time to pull the trigger, Decide.com is a fantastic website and now app to monitor the probability of price drops in electronics.
What many people do is gather the model numbers available at Costco, then use Amazon reviews to narrow down your choices and then use Costco for the actual purchase. This is less risky until Amazon can improve the damage rate on big-ticket electronics deliveries.
Downside of sticking with Costco is that they only have certain models. But you have to do your research because usually the end-cap TVs are not the best ones.
profhoffParticipantI’m on houzz alot. That’s a great app. We have pretty firm ideas of what we’re looking for, but really need professional help pulling it together. We will have to implement the plan in stages but it helps to know where you’re going so you can efficiently ultimately get there.
profhoffParticipantThanks!
profhoffParticipantThat’s definitely a luxe look! Since we’re basically stuck in the tract house box, we are thinking more “mid-century modern coastal” or even modern with a tropical vibe. The trick will be to see how much we can do with paint and new flooring.
Hopefully some piggs have some designer recos!

Need advice on unexciting but essential purchase #731767profhoffParticipantLG gets poor marks on kitchen appliances so I would research this brand carefully. Whirlpool gets very high marks. The more electronics you have on board, the more expensive repairs are going to be, so keep it simple. Good looks are fun, but sometimes add considerably to the price, eg colors, stainless, etc. We have the pedestals on our Whirlpool W/D and they are terrific for storage, so I think that’s a bonus.
profhoffParticipantRosalena, Waters End, San Pacifico, Poinsettia Cove, etc are finally coming down in price. Pretty impressive! Houses in Waters End are starting to LIST below $700k and some of the REOS in there are just sitting and sitting in the low 700s. Rosalena is going in the low 700s and some will almost certainly sell in the mid-600s. San Pacifico has one in there now that has had at least one price drop so low 500s for a decent amount of square footage close to the beach is in someone’s future.
Makes you wonder what is going on.
Meanwhile, one on Bay Collection just closed for 880. Are we at bottom or do we still have more room to fall?
profhoffParticipantHandwritten. hmmm…
profhoffParticipantI’m so frustrated with Obama. What a disappointment!
profhoffParticipantYouTube viewing stats undercount embedded videos, especially popular ones. Judging by embedding and pass-through, not to mention text reproductions of the content for those that can’t or don’t wish to view the vid, it’s my opinion the vid has gone viral.
This is also supported by the number of comments on blogs and content sites featuring or otherwise discussing the vid and its content, along with news and other media mentions, and search volume trends.
Of course, the vid isn’t viral to the extent the “Dad, I’m gay. Do you still love me?” vid is, since that went wide.
But within the smaller pointy-head crowd, the Elizabeth Warren vid and content have gone viral, and will probably pick up even more steam as the Senate race heats up.
profhoffParticipantIt’s been reproduced and shared enthusiastically by both sides on multiple sites.
