Participant
Any thoughts on the El Cajon to Alpine corridor v San Marcos/Vista v Ramona v Valley Center/Fallbrook?
I like that El Cajon is closed to the city and its amenities, and right on the 8. VC/FB have the most bang for buck and most rain. SM/Vista have the most new construction high end places. Ramona I know little about.
I mention these because these are where there’s a good selection that’s 1 acre+ for under $2 mil.
the foothills of SD county is indeed the best location for rainfall and potential groundwater BUT there is a drawback of living in the WUI (Wildland urban interface) is the danger of wildfires (along w/ the very real possibility of not being able to get affordable property insurance in areas prone to wildfires,…
totally understand the desire to have a hobby farm/ranch BUT looking at the bigger picture, have to wonder is it worth the financial risk getting a hobby farm (that will require water) in a region that historically has long periods of droughts???

…geochemical data from Leviathan Cave shows that drought can last 4,000 years—findings that Lachniet’s team cross-checked against paleoclimate data from the Arctic and tropical Pacific. In short, the story in the cave data suggests a “worst-case scenario” that could—and probably should—guide planning throughout a region that provides water to 56 million people.

Cargo bikes.

WANT NOW!!!
I have rigged piles of hi visibility materials to my ebike that appear to present a danger to cars and greatly increase my profile.
Those hi vis traffic lane border tubes in the road get knocked down by dopes who cannot maneuver their giant coffins on wheels? Attach to rack, put in panniers.
…A committed cyclist can achieve far greater visibility than a car.
…I also would like a custom danger cycle created. I see something like a caged starburst creation that has cutlery pointing left and back with fake concertina wire surrounding it.
…People hate cyclists, but love dogs. They won’t kill a dog. Maybe just run the dog to the left on a leash suspended 3 feet out? That’d work. Need fit dog. I might do that. Ride slow. Tire the pup out.be nice to have a team of 6 dogs from left to right take up the rear on a leashed trailer so they don’t run into you. Dress the dogs in spiked collars
…Alternatively you could imitate morons in trucks who fly giant flags.
Why choose? WHY NOT ALL OF THESE?????
A nice ripe dead dog or coyote 3 feet to the left would really catch the eye. Obviously this one could be bad for health. But interesting political statement.
http://takeyourlane.com/3footlaw/
Riding completely nude could also make drivers pass slowly to check u out. Maybe just a thong with ass cheeks fully visible? I fear the sun so, won’t work for me.
Wear large stuffed bra on back to confuse people? Use with long haired wig
Blow up sex doll? 20 dildos pointing every which way?
Some of these ideas are obviously bad. Use your discretion. Animal cruelty charges are possible. Be careful. Consult your lawyer. Kishigo brand orange shirts are awesome. Can also find nice bright hunting wear on eBay that is shockingly visible. Of course, I could get crushed tomorrow. But the greatest cause of bike car accidents is….
” I didn’t even see him, officer!”
Cut off that defense. Make it laughable
So, in sum, head out to Walmart, buy all their cheapass pool noodles and some bright duck tape and get creative!!! If you really believe climate change threatens your existence, you may arguably have a moral duty to do this, immediately. See, e.g. Kant.
sounds kinda like you want a bike that combines burning man “art” and mad max “action”
…reminds me kinda have an “art” bike project I started but never got around to finishing
actually years ago thought about buying an electric cargo trike
https://www.radpowerbikes.com/pages/radburro
but could not justify the asking price,…
happened to find an old quad-cycle for sale on Craigslist for a couple of hundred so bought it
since the bike had been sitting unused for a while, had to replace all four tires, then had to machine new axials
basically my quadcycle is rideable but really slow, so figured I’d turn it into a tiki themed happy hour cruiser (picked up all kinds of kitchy decorations but alas things never got past that stage)

truth is people do not consider the big picture or are able to put things into context
WRT an eBike vs an Acrimoto FUV,… have aBike (beach cruiser) use to use it to get around, but it has limitations when I need to carry items AND then there is the problem of drivers not paying attention to people on bikes
for example since I have rentals I often have to go to home depot and pick up small items,… in this case the Acrimoto FUV is the perfect tool because I can carry small items (in the lockable storage box) and because the height of the FUV is taller than a crossover other drivers notice this vehicle (on the road)
I’ve been on my eBike downtown and have almost been run off the road because an idiot too busy talking on a cell phone driving an SUV does not have enough bandwidth to do both talk and drive at the same time
its no contest when on public roads the FUV is the overall safest option IMHO (that is because I have “situational awareness” AND know the limitation of the vehicle)
FWIW check out this YouTube video from transpiration evolved which is the best technical “drivers” review of the FUV
We Had a Weekend Of Fun With The Arcimoto FUV Electric Trike
And We Loved It!also FYI in a recent news article it was noted monthly average CO2 levels were 419 PPM and the last line read,…
“the longer we wait, the harder it gets”
thought I’d point this Washington Post article about research started here in SD @ SIO/UCSD because sadly 99.9999% of people don’t have the brains (and “cajones”) to consider the lessons of “error chain” analysis (like in aviation accident investigations to prevent further carnage/mayhem)

looking at the big picture of the effects of CO2 produced by internal combustion engines the knock on effects are going to last a really long time,…

Participant
I don’t know. If i were to speculate. I would speculate on water rights if I knew how. Seems like that will be in greater need than EV, especially on the west coast.
years ago started to momentum trade AND managed to make much more than I lost, simply because I kept in mind “the trend is your friend” till it isn’t!
water rights is a long term “need” investment, whereas the EV sector as I see things is the new momentum “need” trade
the EV sector (in particular the three wheelers) solve a problem not too many think about (or for that matter understand AND can put into context)
FWIW the returns (percentage wise) I’ve made “investing” in the EV sector dwarfs the returns (percentage wise) in SD RE appreciation

You are kidding, right? Vanity is about owning things others don’t have…the funky looking is feature not a bug.
took delivery of a funky looking “highway legal” EV last November

wasn’t vanity that made me pull the trigger to buy one,… bought an arcimoto FUV (fun utility vehicle) because its well designed and well built, its small and easy to maneuver so its the perfect urban runabout for SD
been following the progress of various EVs for quite a while so think I have a good overall feel where things are headed
back in 2006 had a chance to check out the roadster prototypes under development up @ the Tesla HQ in San Carlos and also had a chance to check out a production model roadster here in town,… the roadster wasn’t very practical for the everyday real world, example crossing rail road tacks was a PITA because the front air dam was easy to damage if you weren’t careful driving, same with various driveways (which could cause damage)
the aptera design is optimized to be a good commuter vehicle AND I think this time around its actually going to make it into production (in the first go around the company went bankrupt before reaching production)
kinda had a pretty good idea how things were progressing (the first go around) because the guy who was doing the actual fabrication was another airport bum I use to have lunch w/

Participant
If I remember the last time this came up in CA.
Agriculture is 80 percent of water use in California, I think it is likely the same in AZ and UT.
iMO it is not really so much about housing/industrial growth etc… but more about how we are going to grow food and what we eat in the future, housing growth is really a non-issue but it makes great headlines LOL.
I really don’t want to get into the whole climate change debate. but it is largely the same, it is popular to blame it on cars/suburbia etc.. but in reality cargo ships and Agriculture emit far more. If you to want to realty help, stop buying so much crap from Costco LOL.
It is almost pointless IMO, for every ton of greenhouse gas the USA removes, China, Africa and India probably add about three.
people have no idea how bad things can get
the way I see things its like being aware of covid (back in January 2020 pre-lockdown here in the USA),… I say this because scientific data indicates in the last thousand years, there have been mega-drought periods in the southwestern USA that lasted a hundred years or more
fact is what people consider normal (i.e. the past 150 years or so) was actually the perfect climate conditions which allowed populations to grow and the economy to prosper
The most recent one is happening right now. It’s gripping a wide swath of the southwestern United States and northern Mexico, and it’s been ongoing since around 2000.“We now have enough observations of current drought and tree-ring records of past drought to say that we’re on the same trajectory as the worst prehistoric droughts,…”
think a hundred year drought is bad???
looking a bit deeper, we see the southwestern USA can be in drought conditions for thousands of years!!!

GX is basically a shorter-wheelbase Land Cruiser — it’s a decently capable off-road vehicle.
one thing to consider for over land trips,… from what I gather the lexus GX 470 has an air-suspension,…. ditch the air-suspension and install steel coil springs which would be more roubust
https://www.strutmasters.com/lexus-gx-470-air-suspension-convert/
2003-2009 Lexus GX470 4-Wheel Air Suspension Conversion/Delete Kit (TE14F)
driven tens of thousand of miles on various dirt roads in my 80 series land cruiser which was setup for alaska/baja,… personally consider the 80 series the last true serious off road vehicle because it came w/ solid axles
the 100 series land cruiser introduced IFS (independent front suspension) which gives the vehicle a more comfortable paved road ride BUT IMHO for overland trips its best to have solid axles
decades ago when I outfitted my 80 series for overland trips, purchased lots of stuff from spector off road (mentioned this because they might have stuff for the lexus gx???)

If California education officials have their way, generations of students may not know how to calculate an apartment’s square footage or the area of a farm field, but the “mathematics” of political agitation and organizing will be second nature to them. Encouraging those gifted in math to shine will be a distant memory. This will be the result if a proposed mathematics curriculum framework, which would guide K-12 instruction in the Golden State’s public schools, is approved by California’s Instructional Quality Commission in meetings this week and in August and ratified by the state board of education later this year.
doing a quick google search, found a video about equitable math,… and my first thought was the expression,… “GIGO” (garbage in garbage out)
the reason “GIGO” this came to mind is because I view science as being color blind (for lack of the better term),… in other words gravity does not give a damn whether a person is pigmentally challenged or not,… if an idiots steps off a bridge I’m 100% certain gravity does not care about the color a person’s skin
the reason I point out the law of gravity is because I get the feeling that proponents of “equitable math” seems to want to force a discussion about racism before any teaching of math (I’ve time marked a youtube video so you all can hear exactly what is proposed,… like “freedom dreaming” exercises?!)
FYI the reason I thought of the programming expression “GIGO” is because IMHO math is all about being exact,… IOW the recent first flight of “ingenuity” happened to succeed because of exact calculations AND if the scientists (who designed and built “ingenuity”) had to sit through political correctness courses before taking hard core math and science courses,… gut feeling is many would say having to take time off learn about racism (which in no way affects flight performance of a spacecraft on another planet) is an unnecessary complication and is off putting
https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-perseverance-captures-video-audio-of-fourth-ingenuity-flight
said another way as I see things seems social justice warriors (for lack of a better term) are trying to interject their political bias into the subjects of math/science AND doing so IMHO actually does more harm than good because of a dumbing down effect rather than being encouraging (for example)

Participant
I agree. I see hyperinflation to the point it will destroy people’s savings. The best bet at this point is liquidate if you have the means and move to an area where you can buy a house cash and have very little overhead. I would also start learning how to trade E-mini future contracts and stop chasing stocks. I see the market moving into a sideways range bound low volume muted market reminiscent of 2014-1015. I have enough right now to move to an hour outside of Knoxville, or Charleston, etc have enough to pay a house cash and have a substantial amount left over to diversify. The taxes and cost of living in San Diego and SoCal will mirror what I saw happen in the suburbs of NYC where the average 2000sqft house is paying up to 3-5% a year in property taxes. It is absurd, but as the demographic of SoCal continues to change, population increasing and middle class people moving, I don’t see good things. Moving forward I liquidated most of my investments on 1/15/21 after a phenomenal 4 year return and over 800% in the past year. Why push it? After trading for 25 years, there is a time to take it off the table.
ever consider because the US dollar is the global currency there can’t be hyperinflation (like what happened in post WW I Germany, or the hyperinflation in Zimbabwe)
actually what seems to be happening is the expected result of growing populations and increased demand (which increases prices), combined with sad fact that political leadership spends taxpayer money unwisely on stuff that does not create lasting value,…
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pXS9yudHelEdCSJsKs_X67cosuM5n2DM/view
basically the US dollar will one day no longer be the global reserve currency (perhaps this might much sooner than most people expect) and only when this happens is when hyperinflation can happen (i.e. the economist issue of “the Triffin Dilemma”)

…on the bright side had to laugh at the description DeMaio gave of faulconer (i.e. “Meg Whitman without the dress”)
The fighting over California’s top job has begun — among Republicans…Two prominent Republicans have already launched their campaigns — former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and businessman John Cox, who lost badly to Newsom in 2018.
Since launching his gubernatorial run, Faulconer has quickly sought to position himself as the establishment pick. He rolled out a slate of endorsements from Republican lawmakers. A mailer from his campaign stresses that Faulconer was able to win in populous, diverse San Diego by persuading independent voters. That offers a “credible shot at winning statewide, despite California’s challenging voter registration,” the piece argues.
But convincing the Chamber of Commerce is different from convincing MAGA adherents. Faulconer’s foes are already seeking to portray him as a milquetoast moderate who would not excite voters. Cox, who lost to Newsom in a landslide in 2018, has highlighted dubious real estate deals to try and portray Faulconer as corrupt. Cox attacked his rival in an ad entitled “Gavin Faulconer.”
“I’m attacking corruption. I’m attacking incompetence and mismanagement. I don’t care if it’s Republican or Democrat,” Cox said in an interview. “I don’t think Kevin Faulconer has any business running for governor.”
Faulconer has also drawn steady fire from former San Diego Councilman Carl DeMaio, a longtime rival and staunch Trump supporter who hosts a popular conservative talk radio show. DeMaio launched a website that portrays Faulconer as a liberal in disguise, drawing a public rebuke from Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).
Choosing an establishment-favored centrist like Faulconer would squander the energy and enthusiasm galvanizing California Republicans, DeMaio argues. He said California Republicans, desperate for a victory, have “demoralized the base” by seeking to elevate someone more like the Democrats.”
“It is vitally important to rebuild the infrastructure in the state. A recall race – win, lose, or draw – can be a real turning point for the Republican Party. You can only do this if you have a candidate you can be proud of and who can motivate the base,” DeMaio said in an interview, arguing that Faulconer’s ascendancy was “part of the death-spiral of the Republican party” and calling Faulconer “Meg Whitman without the dress.”
as a teen did some skiing in Brian Head and always thought it would be neat to have a vacation home there or up in the mammoth lakes area because those areas seemed so “lush” WRT SD
last week drove one of my vehicles out to Julian to charge up my battery and also get some apple pie (figured I’d kill two birds w/ one stone)
anyway what I noticed is it’s really dry out in east county AND this seems to be the case w/ the rest of CA according to news reports

California is bone dry. Will March bring more misery or a miracle?…Los Angeles and Southern California have lots of company in this respect. The state and the West are gripped by persistent drought, including large areas of exceptional drought in the Southwest
https://news.yahoo.com/california-bone-dry-march-bring-002412223.html
the reason I mention as a teen thinking Brian Head and Mammoth were lush and wanting a vacation home/ranch is realize things were quickly changing
as a teen what I thought was normal (areas of the western USA being “lush”) was actually abnormal in the grand scheme of things
point being many parts of the western USA can be in drought conditions for thousands of years
Danger Cave Near Wendover Provided Clues to Ancient Utah Dwellers
as an “investor” in real estate the extended period of drought made me think it important to investigate the potential of fire storms in a location
sadly growing up and taking classes @ UCSD I lost the “dream” that a place like Brian Head was lush
basically after learning more about the long term climate conditions in the south western USA can be in drought for thousand of years,…this implies there was an elevated risk of fire, which means higher insurance rates or even the possibility of not being able to get insurance (due to co$t$)
my drive out to Julian prompted me to do is google info on the topic of drought/wildfire AND rediscovered news items about the last big fires here in SD
