ParticipantI can happen here also. Never say never.

ParticipantI think that the possibility of real estate dropping 50% is too frightening for most people to handle. I personally don’t think it’ll be all that bad because it’s a 50% drop from the PEAK. 300k median for San Diego is not the end of the world. Many homeowners will be in trouble but overall we’ll be just fine and the world will still go ’round. I think that all properties will drop in equal percentages; the difference will be the timing.
As with any bad news, human psychology prevents us from fully dealing with the signs of a coming crash. We only want deal with with the bad news in increments as it occurs.
For example, with Iraq, now that we’re in there, we want to succeed. Questioning the initial decision to invade strikes many as counter productive because it doesn’t solve the current problem. Considering that we may “loose” this war is like capitulating and unpatriotic to some. Better hope for the best.
I think that human nature is such that we want to dream about pie-in-the-sky but don’t really want to face the hard reality. Life is more pleasant is you have a better tomorrow to look forward to. Looking forward to a bleaker future is against our survival instincts.
I think that Powayseller comes across as “strong.” But I admire her courage in expressing her views. It’s always courageous to go against the trend. As I’ve said before, someone who predicts pie-in-the-sky is lauded for being visionary and bold. But someone who predicts a depression is attacked from every angle and is berated to show “facts” and “proof.”
Predictions are based on assumptions. Predicting Dow 30,000 is not anymore “factual” than predicting Dow 3,000.
I beleive that Powayseller will be vindicated in time.
Powayseller, please don’t stop your posts. We need more like you to keep us in balance. We should have all types of opinions. It’s up to the reader to make up his own mind. I look forward to reading your blog when it’s ready.
For more circumspect opinions, we can just listen to our policy makers. They have a stake in keeping the market stable. Even if a policy maker thought that RE would fall 50%, he could never say so because his statement would cause a panic.

ParticipantHow about Carlsbad or Oceanside? It’s much cooler along the coast.

ParticipantAnxvariety, that’s why, if possible, one should try to make food from scratch. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Food additives have long term effects (i.e. shorter life span).
Remember that one can be thin and “fat” at the same time. It’s about body fat percentage. Many Asians look thin but they suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol without even knowing it. Those conditions increase risks of stroke, heart attacks and organ failure.
Lay off the butter on the corn and the salt shaker. I’ve not bought any butter (or margarine) in 10 years.

I highly recommend this show on KPBS/NPR for people who love the English language.
The problem with the Internet is that we type too fast and don’t have the time to proof-read before we hit send. But there’s a difference between typos and consistent incorrect usage.

ParticipantI’m with you FutureSDguy. I’d hate to see a return to the kind of vigilantism that leads to public lynching. Unfortunately, the local news is full of this type of sensational stories.
We’re so used to watching them that we’ve become desensitized. The news outlets have to put on ever more outlandish shows to hold the ratings.
Let the authorities do their job and let Sulieman have his day in court.

ParticipantI say let the chips fall where they may. We don’t need to be bailing out bad decisions.

ParticipantI agree. Speculators have been driving up commodity prices but the the recession hits the excess capacity will cause prices to come back down. But low oil prices will not save housing.

ParticipantIf I remember well, in the 1990’s downturn, multi-million dollar Del Mar and Fairbanks Ranch really went off the clift. I didn’t look at La Jolla at that time so I don’t know.

ParticipantI’m with you FutureSDguy. Such trash is why i rarely watch local TV. I posted these links because Sulieman was a topic of interest in earlier threads.
In a civil society, we don’t need this care of vigilantism on the part of the press. The reporter’s in-your-face kind of reporting doesn’t do anyone any service. Investigative reporting yes, but no in-your-face reporting, please.

ParticipantMy friend is chasing the market down and he said: “anything under $540k and I’ll feel ripped-off.” Meanwhile has been sitting on the market. I think that his house is junk. Would not want to live in that old teardown where you swelter in the summer for lack of good insulation and air-conditioning.

ParticipantI rarely watch local TV but looked it up when someone told me about this case.
