What do you want everything.? That is societies script by the way…those little men are society men.

ParticipantTHe best move is not to go back several panels but to get off the script all together….if you don’t like the route depicted…too late?

ParticipantDistance running, the regular way w/o weights, has a problem as a sport. There should be weight class divisions like in Lifting. A 200 pound person running a 5 minute mile might be as good or better than a 125 pounder running 4.00. I wonder if there are a lot of big Kenyans who would dominate the big guy divisions.

I think you could volunteer at this event scaredy, get around some of your peers.
I believe there is no qualifying to participate it’s cheap. One of the people I chat with at the gym does this….
64 YO…dead lifts to lock, 325 Kilos. You gotta do something between heavy sets.NotCranky
ParticipantThe rebuttal seems very misplaced, definitely off base, FlyerInHI
I agree a lot of people get hungry to be in the limelight, for glory and $, and once they are out of it, don’t have active healthy lifestyles. I am not really concerned about them.
Most people compete for social life and reasons of health and fitness…Nobody gives a darn about anything but the top finishers in sports. Theres no glory, maybe a few bragging rights to annoy friends and co-workers with. Moderate competition is no worse than no competition at all healthwise, and may be an improvement on the social side(which contributes back to health). Lots of people , including people who are relatively slow or weak derive motivation to stay fit from a 5k or a all comers event of some kind….perhaps playing a team sport.
40,50,60,70, 80 years and up still doing it …it isn’t for the glory.

ParticipantWhat about strength competitions ,scaredy. Interested in that? There are some that are pretty much all-comers events, I believe.

I rode with a pro a few times and he said we were doing 32 on a slight uphill approaching Ramona from Lakeside( We came back through wild cat canyon)
Either you had come off a downhill, he was pulling your … leg, or it was 32 “Canoock miles” per hour.
There you go with your naysaying again. Must be addicted to it. Have you ever been good on a bike? It was actually 34 come to think of it. That really isn’t that much for a short distance. Don’t misunderstand we had picked up the pace briefly. Averaging that for a longer ride would be elite level even on pretty flat ground.. I think I can hit 34 for a short period still 2O years older. Tomorrow I can do it.Of course if one makes a claim like this on the internet they get what they deserve : ).

I don’t think 30 miles in a hour is pro level on a spin bike? I think they would be doing 40 o rmore?
Most exercise bikes have different resistance settings — it would just depend on what the bike is set to do, no?
Don’t really know how the different types of stationary bikes do the calcs. If it is on easy resistance then you just make mileage slower base on rpms, of course. I know from feel and the HR monitor that 20 miles per hour +, on the lifecycle type is hard work and I think it is near legit mileage. The fancy spin bikes, like the one that showed 30 miles, I don’t really know, it’s still very hard work.
No wind resistance on spin bike, scaredy. When I used to ride I was pretty powerful on a bike. I didn’t have a lot of technology on the bike though. I rode with a pro a few times and he said we were doing 32 on a slight uphill approaching Ramona from Lakeside( We came back through wild cat canyon)

ParticipantO.K. he might do it. But why didn’t the thought about not knowing occur to you and him when you each said I can’t spin 30 in an hour? Hmmm.
I don’t think 30 miles in a hour is pro level on a spin bike? I think they would be doing 40 o rmore? In running I am at about 75% of age graded world record for 5k and I only do about 20 miles a week, so why not on the spin bike? World record dude could probably do 50 in an hour on the spin bike so 30 is only 60%. Anyway, like you said the bike could have been broke, but watch it with the double standards for criticizing people, even if we are all joking around.
How about the lady swimming from Cuba to Florida ? 64 years old! None of us is doing too much compared to what people can do.
NotCranky
ParticipantI am not saying 200 a week is much, just that this guy doesn’t do it.
