OT: burning with hatred….

Whatever everyone believes is so, is probably wrong; and people in general seem tot hink you go to the gym to get in shape…and I am coming to think that gyms are very bad for most people for real useable strength.

I hate my gym now with such a strong rage that it actually lights me up and motivates me with fury while I’m there. But I will need to quit soon, and my membership expires ina few weeks anyway.

Why do i hate the gym.

There’s this guy who does a few weak reps and then gets right on his cell phone to text. I can’t stand having him near me. I can’t stand the way he immediately grabs his phone the second he finsihes lifting something that was so easy for him he barely has to try…

There are several women who pay this personal trainer over $50 an hour and basically they just yak with the trainer and do a little workout. lots of yakking. It gets me PISSED. They’re probably spending their spouse’s money so it doesn’t matter…i guess…

there are two guys who think they’re serious but they do these weird, wimpy 1/8-1/4 reps wtih big weights and keep patting each other on their backs, which never get any bigger. I don’t want to be near them. i can’t stand their self-satisfaction and camaraderie.

There are others….

I can’t stand the public.

there is a term for weird strength devotees who realize they cannot be out in public and just have to do their weird rituals at home….they are called “cellar dwellers.”

I need a real gym with real energy where people are serious…or none at all…

I am often tempted to knock that cell phone out of that texter guy’s hand and yell “GET YOUR HEAD INTO IT, MOTHERF**KER!”

…and to just start yakking to myself near the woman who is “working out” with her personal trainer.

indeed, I have to grunt a lot just to concentrate above the whine of her voice complaining about all kinds of first world problems.

And I suppose this rant is also a very first world problem…

I shoudl ignore them, I suppose.

I’m just going to stay in my yard. Lift empty kegs and long iron bars, swing macebells, do pull ups and dips with weights attached to me, toss sandbags around, swing my damn kettlebell, wear a weight vest and jump around the yard, carry heavy weights up and down the hill…learn to do handstands.

I HATE THE GYM…..

Sure on the road where you can coast. No coasting on these spin bikes.
I agree that it is boring….and not at all necessary….I have taken the one hour class exactly once. I went 30 miles.

I agree that it is boring….and not at all necessary….I have taken the one hour class exactly once. I went 30 miles.

If you can do 30 mph for an hour, you’re either Iron Man or the bike wasn’t set to emulate a real bike too well 🙂

This being said, given the right kind of road, you don’t HAVE to coast or rest up if you don’t want to.

Yeah, it was pretty generous,,but I can do mid 20’s in a hour on the regular stationary training bike (lifecycle) with no class to help (though I usually do a half hour). Then I go lift girly weights and chat it up.

I have ridden on the road but won’t do it since my kids came along.

yes. true. but they are distracting. I guess it’s justa question of what the purpose is.

reality on a bike is generally more challenging than a spin class. reality in anything is usually more difficult.

Seriously, are you that afraid? I used to go biking with my parents and sister along the coast road that goes through all the beach towns in central NJ. (Pretty similar to the stretch of 101 that goes from O’side to La Jolla, a bit narrower in places.)

Quite a bit of fun for a 8 year old, though I remember being terrified that they’d open the drawbridge while we were riding across it!
