ParticipantI can get the same weight loss results with long slow activities or more intense workouts(after a warm-up please). So can most people. However I prefer a balance. Too much slow takes a lot of time and I am bored to death and lose overall strength. A little too much and I am tired all the time. Too much intensity affects the my nervous system in ways I don’t like. It makes me want to fight with people on blogs. That can’t be good for my health. At the muscle fiber level I am genetically a middle of the road kind of guy. There are studies for all of this too.

ParticipantPeople should forget most of the study results on diet and exercise and do what works for them. It doesn’t take a genius to figure that out, but looking at every new opinion can be problematic. Lots of unfit people who have or have had pet experts. In fact, more times or not ,when someone is busy taking sides with the latest opinion , I find that their actual program isn’t all that or won’t be soon. They become members of the unhealthy “I tried that for a while” club.

ParticipantThey don’t care if you “formalize” anything. This is a trivial matter to them and everyone else. Look how comfortable they are beating people and think about whether a complaint about a very poor job on a police report matters to them, to the DA????
In the case where the detective lied, he was protecting himself. He claimed that he found a substantial piece of evidence on his first visit like he should have. But I found it after he left and called and a deputy came out and impounded it. It is very easy to prove that he lied. But, that was an arson and I found out that if there wasn’t potentially money in it for the insurance company they pretty much weren’t going to do much investigating anyway.
In the recent case, the report writing itself was incompetence. Pure incompetence. The statement about saying I said it only happened once , when it happened 3 times really makes me wonder if manipulation wasn’t involved for one reason or another. Probably just incompetency. Hard to believe, but probably true. Maybe they like to wreck cases before they get started.
I thought for a while , maybe they write it badly to test my story…but I doubt that too…in this case anyway.NotCranky
ParticipantI met the officer in the lobby of the substation and that’s where he said the errors were insignificant. I went home and emailed him my concerns without complaining too much, or berating him. Just the facts. I laid out corrections for what I felt were the four most important things. I know to him that makes me a trouble maker. That’s another big attitude problem with cops , you go from victims to trouble maker in the blink of an eye. There are reasons to set the record straight, even if they are trying to shit can complaints as fast as they can. I did not get a response to my email and never will but it’s documented and I feel a little bit better about it.
With the detective that lied , I pushed it up, they have citizen review board and whatnot to direct you to the exits and that’s about it. His boss called me paranoid and praised the lousy lying detective. That’s where I learned to just set the record straight as best you can and move along.

ParticipantOver the last ten years I have had to report some crime , unfortunately. The Sheriff deputies could not write an accurate report to save their lives. In one case a detective made a very serious lie to cover his incompetency in the investigation. You can imagine where victims rights go when they do that.
In the other case I asked the detective to consider fixing the report. He said the issues were insignificant. The most blaring defect was about whether the crimes had happened once or 3 times. He wrote in his closing remarks that I had stated that the crime only occurred once , when I had said 3 times and had described each scenario in detail. I know it’s insignificant in that he wasn’t going to do a damn thing about it anyway, but geez, how could the victim think it was insignificant? How could the officer think he was giving the idea that he was protecting anyone?
Many other mistakes in report as well. Can’t go into those details here. I felt like I was in one of those games kids play where someone says something and it gets passed down a line of 30 kids until something completely unlike the original statement comes out. Trust me , I know there is no point in trying to go over his head. How good is it going to be in court, or in a deposition, if the victim has no other recourse than to say that the crime report is a POS? Not only does one get the idea that they are not being protected but also that the cop just doesn’t care.
Their tendency to be bullies who are above criticism is going to be a big impediment to getting better results anywhere within their duties. The brutality is terrible but we have some real keystone cops in a lot or ways. I can see this going very dystopian or even more dystopian in the future.

Participant
Quick question… Is there anything wrong with lifting weights everyday? Some say one should go every other day to let your body recover. Others say it’s not a big deal. I figure 1/2 hr in the morning before work and then about 45 mins at night isn’t that much, especially since I’m not really lifting the maximum weights that I can right now…
That’s actually quite a bit of time for weight lifting.

ParticipantI have almost always been pretty reasonable on diet and fitness. The only time I wanted to lose some weight , which had gradually accumulated over 25 years and then increased a little more dramatically than ever in a brief time , it came off very fast. I went form 218 to 185 in a matter of about 3 months but I was pretty fit underneath from the start and I am 6’5″.
If you are not fit underneath the flab you should be more patient while you build a better diet routine. I do think you can do it with just diet ,like some have mentioned, but exercise helps deal with aging in lots of ways.
Exercise gently and if you have any intention of going harder do it very gradually, over a year or more, not months. Connective tissue take a lot longer to get injury proof than muscles do. Cardio comes along pretty fast so it’s easier to work harder than what the body can really deal with from and injury point and with becoming fatigued in general, like Brian mentioned.
I do a lot of different type exercises, cardio 4 or 5 times a week, weights or body weight routines two or three time a week and I work out pretty hard. If I washed 3 cars I might call that an exercise day though. I keep a log. Usually 45 min to 1 hour ,but I run or bike longer than that sometimes. I take days off if I need to turn away from fatigue, or just because. I take a month or so off once a year.
I bought treadmill sometime last year. I really like it, use the elliptical sometimes but it’s my least favorite.. I do backwards running and walking on steep incline and side stepping and soccer/bask ball type drills on the treadmill besides normal running. It is making me pretty fit.

ParticipantBG tile saws are the least dangerous of all circular saws. You can touch the blade with your finger, though I wouldn’t recommend getting it pinched between the table and the blade.
Some tile store will cut your tiles for a fee and /or a rental saw can be had to cut the pieces with just a few hours rental, once the main floor is installed. I know you probably don’t like those Ideas , but they can be used.
Less scrupulous people buy the tile saw and return it after the job is done!

ParticipantIf it’s on a slab make sure they seal it very well before putting the hardwood down. In fact, you might even want to look for a dedicated concrete sealing contractor to do that part. Also the tile may need a slip sheet installed over slab or parts of it.
The guys at HD are going to want to start throwing down wood and tile 5 minutes after you meet them and they WILL NOT bring these important things into consideration.I can give you a referral if you want , but if the contractor you chose will address these things , and do them right, to the extent they are needed , you will be fine with that contractor.

ParticipantJust to squeak out a little vent here, the militarization and nationalism agendas at the public schools are still the most bothersome items. That and recruiting kids for commercial efforts aka, fundraisers and “gift” store days.
Makes it clear our country sees children as military pieces and consumers on strings and wants the kids to see themselves that way too. The same old get them while they are young.

Participant
Out of curiosity…I am sort of curious what percentage of the people that like ccm are STEM degreed/career oriented people.
Two of my kids are in STEM schools, which I believe have to put priority on common core. Common core doesn’t worry me as long as my kids are given full opportunity to participate in honors math and nerd classes up to their abilities and my and my wifes interests. The thing is common core is not going to hurt them anymore than it is going to help the kids who can’t meet standards. Even before honors and tiger parent electives the brighter and or more facilitated kids in the younger also common core grades are getting pretty good educations. The kids the teacher and parents overcome” teaching to the test problems”.For most kids It still really comes down to how bright are you and who all is on your side.

ParticipantWRT to an imminent recession, does it make sense to look at this stuff on Freight? Never hear that talked about on pIggs, but it’s still something that old guys watch.
I don’t know much about this stuff, but I asked an old , very old friend earlier in the year and he said freight was down and that is if doesn’t come back up , we will probably get a recession. I think China has been trending down over that last year or so too.

ParticipantSet the Ac on 80F today, no one suffered, it’s 80F outside now and falling and all the windows are opened. This is a zero, once, or twice a year occurrence. Even without AC there are plenty of ways to deal with it. We have it very good.

Does the US automatically qualify to be one of the teams in the little league world series? -
