ParticipantPeople are born every day not in so many big 20 year chunks.I find all this Boomer,x,y&z stuff sort of funny. Using it to compartmentalize a society that is really in flux doesn’t seem to have much going for it beyond entertainment value. I would tend to think that someone who really wants to make a big stink out of it needs to grow up.That said Yours truly was born in 1962 and was in a perfect niche to avoid the failings of my glutinous predecessors and my younger slacker brothers.I take no personal credit, just happened to be born in 1962.

ParticipantI am not able to edit my posts for some reason,so a new one for JG:
Thanks for sharing your story as well. I know it takes courage. You certainly could have had better “nurture” yourself. Divorice is tragic, sometimes,my parents divoriced 3 years before my mom died. They were so crazy I think it was a relief to some of us.Having the sibling unit split was a disaster for me. I hope you can see that the system of beliefs that you maintain and the developement of the people involved has tremendous capacity to attenuate or exacerbate the deleterious effects of divorice. Are you glad that the Catholic church punished your parents for divoricing? It seems very cruel, dark and primative to have such policies .
I think, if my wife and I were ever to split we would still do a great job raising our kids.We would repair the wounds to the greatest degree possible. We would go on loving each other and being decent to one another. We would be free from having the curse of a requirement to label one another “sinner” or having a community we belonged to do so. That said I am old school and would also believe in staying together for the kids sake. We would simply agree not to make each other miserable and facilitate a reasonably tender, mutually supportive collegial relationship.NotCranky

ParticipantYou do love your studies JG.
The story I posted was the tip of the iceberg. Clearly you have made up your mind that it doesn’t matter so enough of that.
As for not responding directly to queries, you are the master. Nuance is not you strength evidently. I won’t hold it against you but I won’t value your opinions any topic that you refuse to delve into either. You are the ultimate “pick and chooser”.“The Catholic Church, in my opinion, is dead-on when it gives second-rate status to the divorced with children. ‘Avoidance of stigma’ is a great motivator for many of us weak humans.”
The problem is that it gives second rate status to innocent children in doing so. Avoidance of that might help to stimatized the children less.In the pimate world, many social structures more or less work. If we were not the most judgemental, hording and fearful of them, as reflected by religious people as well as the rest of us, many human social structures might allow individuals to relatively thrive as well.Lost Kitty,
Thanks, I know I have a few unusual mental traits, to say the least, that lend to creativity. Unfortunately, for all things requiring intellectual productivity, I am cursed with a short span of attention and am doomed to being a one page wonder. I am mostly a physical person and relish doltih periods of monotony. Probably some kind of coping strategy:). I appreciate your genrosity with the compliments. On adversity,: I am not sure it is a benefit to anyone. The productivity factor seemed negative in my family. I would rather have had a better time. I survived that’s all. Sometimes I imagine what I could have done with some support but I don’t dwell on it. If water seeks it’s own level judging from my friends and wife I am O.K.
I don’t want to sound mean but I am not “Liberal”.I really dislike labels. Siding with large masses of people generally isn’t my thing.I think it causes “brain rot” and emotional sterility, when it is not causing revolution. (I guess me and the unabomber have that in common :).) Not that I am saying you suffer from that at all. I am sure you are quite the thinker. Thanks again for your kindnesses.
Best wishesBTW I also post some things just for the fun of it. like this”Siding with large masses of people generally isn’t my thing.I think it causes “brain rot” and emotional sterility, when it is not causing revolution.”. That said you can trust that your’s truly is being sincere when it matters.
This forum is a little like “toast masters” for me…just practice and experimentation with language andideas. For instance, now I can spell syntax correctly and own the word in my vocabulary. Same with demagoguery.

ParticipantInteresting that your brother was enlisted. Most enlisted men either came from broken families or impoverished areas. I was a sonar tech push button E-6 at 23,despite being knocked back a stripe for going UA. I could have gone nuke except for having admitted smoking pot. Even then, the recruiters wanted me to change my statement and say I was only around people who smoked pot. Anyway, you can imagine your’s truly and the navy were not a good fit.I discovered that I was not fond of our nation’s overtures to the world during my enlistment.I guess I more or less believed we were the good guys always, up until then.Somehow Vietnam didn’t influence me one way or the other.
I had more important things to worry about earlier on.I don’t think my father finished high school or maybe even middle school. My mom might have, but I don’t know, she died when I was young and my dad would not say.He drank himself to death by the time he was 46, meanwhile we lived like rats on aid to dependent children and food stamps.I bought all my clothes and most my food since I was about 14. Of the five who stayed with my dad I am the only one who finished high school. Another made it past the ninth grade. I think it hurt my dad’s feelings that I did.He was like that. I went from third to first chair with my trumpet in a semester and he was inspired to harass me until I quit. Three older siblings lived with a more educated relative and graduated. One attained a degree from Cal Poly Pamona with the help of extended social security benefits. My youngest brother put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger. He was 21. I suppose that is a sin to you but I call it a tragedy. I suppose he could have just as easily have taken it out on someone else. Then we would have put him to death anyway, because he was evil.
I really don’t mean to say I am brighter than you, I have just been dying to use that tank/pea shooter joke for a while. We tap into our different kinds of intelligence to different degrees. You are probably a fine fellow. It’s just amazing how different people can be. I might be unfortunate enough to be you if I were raised in your shoes and you might be blessed with what I am cursed with if things were the other way. By the way, in my semi- orphan youth I met a few wonderful hippies. I can not even begin to match the integrity of their souls. Strangers of every kind and color gave me little samples of a good life that my parents never could. It had nothing to do with money.I can not remember one single openly religiously devout person who did. I don’t think one devout Catholic ever did a thing for any of those 8 raggedy baptised motherless children. Some public school teachers showed great affection. The physical Church was in a pretty upscale area and we were from the wrong side of the tracks. It would be like a dysfunctional family from Logan going to your church. Even at 7 years old I could tell they couldn’t wait to be done with us. I became very astute regarding the fallacies/hypocracies of religion/religious people and at 10 years old could have nearly written, independent of ever having seen it, the book “The age of Reason” by Thomas Paine. With poor syntac and punctuation of course. Some things never change :).
Well that is my last try at reforming you JG, Well, I guess I have said that before. We will see.

ParticipantI can add a few comments but someone else will have to pitch in with the actual history. In San diego it seems that Prudential was the first and has been the most active in using this technique. It is probably designed to get more people to look at the property. I think it gets the agents more listings because they can make the seller very happy with a high looking price too. In theory it is supposed to cover a variety of terms like wether or not closing costs are contributed by the buyer, how many repairs are requested ect. It really is unfair to buyers the way it is used in my opinion. There have been lawsuits over it I believe. The ranges are so broad in some cases, that they could cover the a complete renovation and all other normal costs .Once I offered 5k cash over the low end of the “value range”, “as is” terms,no buyer’s closing costs from the seller and the offer was rejected. That, to me,is a clear proof of bait and switch intent.

ParticipantIf you don’t think getting off topic is a good idea HIP,why didn’t you just stay out of it? Does the commentary hit close to home? JG himself has scolded people for bitching about getting off topic.
For the record,I hope nobody gets the idea I am teaming up against JG. My imput is of myself and for myself, even though it does coincidentally support reasonable people everywhere. In a battle of wits I am a sherman tank and he has a pea shooter.
I win everytime and stay “cool as cucumber”.LOL.Cy

ParticipantJG,
Beyond the first two years of college most people concentrate very heavily on their chosen specialty. They write enough papers to get in the habit of punctuating slightly better than the average 12th grader. However,in many cases this long dedication to a specialty, followed up by an arduous career and obsession with getting money, costs the person dearly in terms of personal developement in a more holistic sense. The strategies you use to make yourself stand above, JG are very typical of an insecure person. It is silly and confirms that you are losing ground. What does picking all these rediculous fights say for you? I thought you were looking for character developement opportunities at first. Now I am just starting to think you are neurotic.
It is very cowardly of you to pick fights and then say that everybody is over sensitive or too quick to anger or “LIBS” or “anti-American”.Anger is appropriate with regard to the stances you take and support. A good “american” revolution is appropriate.Drop that “anti american” club that you are shamelessly beating everybody with. You obviously think that “american” is anything that suits your own prejudices. What an ego. You could not be less “American”. What of the idealistic but logical founders of this nation who wanted checks and balances against our becoming a bloated oppressive empire overun by religious fanatics. You have become enamored with demagoguery and your self righteous attitude in place of higher “American” ideals. This country has gone so down hill in the last 50 years and you think everything is great as long as the right kind of conservative is in office? Unbelievable.
Here is a question for you. Is unbrideled capitalism, imperialism, nationalism and all the destruction that goes with them Christian? Those appear to me to be your most coveted aspects of our civilization. Well, you know which stem cells are O.K. with God so that’s all that really matters. You just really look like small person JG and a small christian, regardless of how educated you are academically. You need the nation, the chauvinistic empire,an anthropomorphic God and his son,the catholic church, and all the money and credentials you can get to prop you up and that is why you can’t think.
