ParticipantI don’t understand this line of reasoning.
Rich, people don’t understand their insurance. They don’t understand that they may not have replacement value. They don’t understand that they will only be paid for the house and not the land.
We see it everytime there is a disaster, people then discover when the insurance company starts to fight that they have exclusions and terms in their policies. We see it with people with cars, people are stunned when they smash their new car and find out after insurance ‘totals’ it that they still owe $5000.
People equate insurance with the insurance companies will replace it for me or give me the money I ‘paid’ for it, which is rarely the case.

ParticipantYou can’t hide a cache of cars for months and stick a couple in your jacket and go on a killing spree in the High School cafeteria.
Yeah, but you need only one to plow through a pedestrian farmers market harming just as many.
Guns aren’t the problem, negligance and mental health are.
BTW, maybe you want to check out the UK and their burgeoning gun crime problem inspite of strict gun control.

ParticipantWe can’t, so guns are a problem.
People drive drunk, we don’t make cars harder to get for responsible people.

ParticipantProsecuting parents for neglience would be a start.
I’ll second that. We prosecute people for murder when they street race. It’s time for parents to start remembering that THEY are responsible for the actions of their children until the children are adults.
That said, I’m still quite chagrined at the amount of violence in a movie that is PG-13 while a bare breast garners an R rating.

ParticipantI’ve hit a lot of the California coast this year traveling. Eureka, Crescent City, Shelter Cove, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, SF, SD, LA, OC.
The one commonality through July, prices! I remember sitting in Eureka in July looking at the home sale magazines you pick up in the grocery store asking my finance who pays this much up here? Run of the mill ranch house in the little town Oregon border area, $500,000+. No view, regular lot, nothing. $500K, $600K, and up. It was like looking at the housing mags in SoCal.
BTW, Hercules CA isn’t podunk, it’s 10 miles outside of Berkeley, in the East Bay area of SF.

Participantgot a shotgun for Christmas at 11 and my Mother bought me a 22 for my birthday when I was 13.
The photos I saw of the weapons cache was appropriate for an end of world survivalist fantasies.
Speaking of insane, how about Wisconsin turning a badge and a gun over to a 20 year old that isn’t old enough to even buy a beer without any kind of psychological review.

Participantbut for someone with 80/20 non-recourse purchase money it may make sense.
I’ve heard that if you’ve tapped an HELOC the non-recourse protections of your original purchase are voided.
Anybody know for sure?
For a second thought, yep, many are going to game the system, many will try. I wonder how many will discover their loan broker pulled shenanigans of their own now making them look like fraudsters complimented by the gray nature of their screw the banks move to a new home.
