Participant“It’s not like I (or most anyone else) has to drive to work every day. We just do it because taking public transportation to work is such a hassle.”
I’d call public transportation more than ‘a hassle’. I don’t know about you but spending 4 hours a day to commute 20 miles in each direction is a pretty piss poor quality of life.
Do you have an extra 4 hours a day to get to and from work?

Participant“And I’m curious, Marion: if Obama were white, would you still be such an ardent supporter?”
I’m glad a white person didn’t say this because they’d have immediately been accused of being a racist. However, it’s worth asking if a white first term senator with Obama’s pedigree and political views would be garnering this much support. I tend to think not….

ParticipantI’d vote for Bill Cosby for president before I’d vote for Obama.
Obama versus McCain?
I hate to say it but if many conservatives are like me, Obama is gonna win because I won’t vote for McCain ‘for the party’. I can’t stand him and I still fail to understand how he got the nomination. I’ve asked everyone of my conservative friends “did you vote for mccain in the primary?”. I’ve yet to find anyone who did so I can’t figure out how he actually won.
Frankly, I’m almost willing to concede to having a Dem in the whitehouse if McCain is the best we can come up with in a country of 300 million people. I’m sick of the Bush haters “Bush this, Bush that” and almost welcome having a Democrat as POTUS again so, when nothing changes, I can rub it in their faces. Of course, 4 years from now, when nothing significant is different, you know that they’ll all STILL be blaming it on Bush. How convenient…
McCain versus Obama?
I’ll vote “none of the above”–hopefully we can have a “do over”.

Participant“I personally think that this country should apologize for slavery and pay the descendants of slaves compensation.”
No offense, but anyone who believes in reparations for slavery is an idiot.
My grandparents were immigrants. They arrived long after slavery was abolished. I was born AFTER civil rights was passed. Why the f*** should I have to pay ANYTHING to people who are several generations removed from slavery?
“I’m sorry?” For what? I haven’t done anything to ANY of these people that you are suggesting that we give money to.
