Participant
The repair I had done in Tulsa cost only $3.75 less than my mechanic in SD would have charged me for it (I checked).
So, what’s the appeal of Tulsa, again?
[Edit]
Went to the mall earlier today. Observed two things that I want to share.1. It’s mid Nov. and it’s sunny with a that nice crisp, cool autumn air.
2. The mall is crowded and vibrant. People are either racking it up with plastic or the folks in SD are doing OK financially regardless of higher taxes, the impending fiscal cliff and whatnot.

Participant
What y’all don’t realize is that other places have un-capped property taxes. So CA is just making up revenue that would come from R.E. taxes in other states.
+1
People also don’t realize that moving out of CA to get away from higher taxes only solve the cost side of the business. They neglect to take into account the impact of moving to a place like Tulsa would have on revenue side.

Participant
ctr, have you ever considered relocating to (biz-friendly) Tulsa (OK)? Lots of people from CA already have. There’s so much traffic there now in the middle of the biz day, I thought I was trying to turn left onto Figueroa St (in LA) in a recent “visit” for the day (to get my car repaired). With all the drivers of (still) CA-plated vehicles to contend with, it took me over four stoplight changes to get thru one traffic light there and more than five mins to safely turn left out of a gas station :=0
Sounds like you just made a good case why one SHOULD NOT relocating to Tulsa.

Participant

Can’t blame people for being upset that the Govt is taking away the free handouts that they have been enjoying the last 10 years with the generous tax cuts initiated during the Bush administration.
I love when someone refers to “keeping your own money” as a “handout”.
If you don’t accept that taxation is a part of life here in the U.S. then I agree that it’s not a handout. Otherwise, suck it up and accept the reality and be thankful that Bush gave most of us a nice yearly bonus for the last ten years or so.

The damage is already done. Looks like what’s really needed is a change to include some sort of check and balance to prevent these yahoos from doing something like this in the future.

ParticipantI am not sure what’s all this fuzz is about. Unless you’re making a killing and raking in millions a year. The financial impact is minimal.
An individual with $11K in income a year (at around the poverty line) will be affected at most by about $28 per year.
Some one making $1 less than $250K a year will be on the hook at most $625.
Or if you’re fortunate enough to be making between $250-300K per year then it will set you back between $3125 and $3750. It’s a good chunk of money, but seriously it’s not the end of the world.
(I wonder how many Piggs fall into this category and upward??)All this talk about businesses leaving California is not going to happen. If leaving CA is the most prudent and best thing for businesses and individuals they would have done that already. The fact that with all the taxes and regulations in the state and CA still has the 7th or 8th highest GDP in the world tells you that contrary to what the fear mongers want you to believe. People enjoy living and working here in this state and the majority of them will adapt just fine.
The sky is falling – not.

ParticipantYou might have a blown fuse. I recommend you turn the AC on. Check if there’s cool air. Alternatively, check the compressor(?) unit in your yard and see if the fan is running. If either or both tests fail then chances are the fuse is blown. If that’s the case you can go to a home improvement store and get a new one for about $10.
Good luck.

ParticipantI would not go for the town house. The HOA fees will add at least another 20% to your monthly payment. So, if you could afford to get a $360K town house in SR then you could certainly afford a SFR somewhere else without MR and HOA fees for about $430-440K.
For your situation I would definitely add the Mesa College area (92111 & 92117), as someone pointed out in an earlier post, to the search. I also would throw in Birdland and Serra Mesa (92123).
Good luck with your search.

Participant
”When one of President Obama’s debate coaches, Anita Dunn, worked at the White House, this is what she reportedly had to say about her experience there:
‘This place would be in court for a hostile workplace. … Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.’”What a surprise!
Nice try, but here’s the full quote:
“I remember once I told Valerie [Jarrett] that, I said if it weren’t for the president, this place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” Dunn is heard telling Suskind. “Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”

ParticipantI don’t see a problem with that, but may be that’s because I don’t know how the postal service systems handle transactions and revenues. For the scenario pointed out by the OP, let’s just say that these Chinese sellers will instead shipping their products using the regular first class mail – would the USPS then be able to collect/extract any revenue from it? Another way of looking at it is when I send a letter to a foreign country using the USPS first-class mail, is that foreign country be able to collect any $$ for the cost of processing and delivering the mail? I think if anything, it’s very clever for the USPS to figure out a way to tap into a potentially lucrative stream of revenue.
