ParticipantThe question I have been asking about the growth of the Chinese economy is not whether or not it’s sustainable, but rather if it’s been real or just a bunch of smoke-and-mirror stuff? If emperor Xi were to hand out a decree that China shall grow 30% next year, I have no doubt that it will hit that growth number with no problem.

ParticipantI have been wrong the last 20 months by parking half of my $ on the side. I doubled down this month by going 100% cash. I think that pretty much guaranteed a crash won’t happen anytime soon based on my track record…..but if one is to happen between now and end of the year, I’ll be ready.

maybe I’ll resume my real estate search now that the USD => CAN is much better than it was before….
If I had to relocate, Vancouver would be my choice by a big margin. Clean, safe, great public parks and public transportation is second to none. During the summer, there’s still day light late into the evening (9:30 p.m.). Another thing, I notice the people there are generally very fit.
Unfortunately, it’s still out of my price range….:(
This home makes RSF look like a bargain! But that would be an awesome home.
I think that price is quoted in CAN, so with a 1.31:1 exchange rate, that would be only $2.76 million USD. Now, if I could only find $2.76 million in my seat cushions….Why can’t I be one of those rich chinese buyers that shows up at the open house and pays cash :(
There are less expensive alternatives in Richmond – a 10-15 minutes Skytrain ride to downtown Vancouver.

…but you’re right, real estate is generally more expensive than san diego’s. This one makes san diego looks like a rock bottom bargain:

ParticipantRichmond is where you’ll find the most Chinese.

ParticipantThis is one of those repairs that I wouldn’t recommend to DIY. I had mine replaced a few years back at $90/spring + $75 labor. The safety risk alone was enough to convince me to pay an extra $100 bucks or so to have it done by a professional. Also, I know for sure that I wouldn’t know what the proper tension to put on the springs for it to operate correctly and safely.

ParticipantAre you talking about the cost of a termite report (which is about $100)? Or the cost of remedying termite issues?
If it’s the cost of the report just pay for it and move on.

Participant
Limited to only watching it on one TV (1 TV per account)
This is the main reason why I haven’t jumped in, yet. You could actually register more than 1 device.
However, only 1 device can be used at a time.I think I might try it out for a few months and see how I like it. At least I like the pricing part already $20 vs ~ $100 per month.

ParticipantDon’t trust Zillow’s wild-ass guestimates. Instead look at the recently sold properties similar to yours to see if your pricing is too high. Redfin/zillow are good resources.

Participant
If they work for one of the bigger colleges in the L.A. area (UCLA, USC etc…) that is probably a quite normal pay scale for professors and senior admin staff etc….
Not according to the info here for UCLA:
http://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/compensation/2014-academic-salary-scales.htmlNot only is it not normal, it may be impossible for an administrator to make anywhere near $200K/yr – unless, again, they’re in higher positions (Deans and up). As for professors, the only ones that make the $200K/yr are in health sciences – which I am sure most if not all are M.Ds.
ltsddd
ParticipantFor an administrator, $200K/year is an anomoly, unless you’re a president, chancellor or a dean of of law/medicine/dentistry. Many deans of “lesser” disciplines don’t even crack the 6 figure salary.

ParticipantI doubt very much that this layoff at Q will have any detectable impact on the housing market in SD.

Cash only, 14oz “pints”, horrible service. They rely a lot on their location and a nearly mythical reputation that they haven’t actually merited in years.
For anybody that cares it’s not cash only anymore. I do remember when they were indeed one of the best fish tacos in town but now there’s just so many other places doing quality fish tacos.
Do you care to share what those places are? I have tried the little taco shop across from soutbeach and was quite disappointed & don’t even waste your $ on the one that sits on the other end of the block. It’s ironic that the best fish tacos I’ve had is at SB (grilled mahi mahi & baja/pollock) & a close second is brigantine; and not at any of those “authentic” mexican taco shops.
