Check out this one. The house is in Mira Mesa, but the realtor advertises it as “Close to La Jolla / Sorrento Valley” and does not tell you that it’s in Mira Mesa.

Also check out the wide-stretched photos. It’s not even a fisheye lens the realtors usually use to try and make things look bigger. Makes that Subaru look like a Hummer. Do realtors have any success at fooling people with doctored photos?

Especially when they have towing violations. In my friend’s community they say no parking on the street from 2AM until 5AM and the tow trucks start scoping at 2AM like vultures. The other night they towed his car at 2:15 because it was sticking out of the driveway.

That’s hilarious about your non-HOA neighborhood. Still, I think I’d rather have that than an HOA. I like the idea that once you buy something, especially something so expensive and personal, you can do with it what you will. For me it means I’ll be cautious about where I choose to live, including talking with all the neighbors (both to get a feel for how they are and to see if they’ll move sometime soon).
Besides, staring at the same lawns and same colors and same decor seems so Stepford-wife-ish to me. I like to mix it up, even if it means having eyesores in the neighborhood. Also, by comparison, it will make my house look much nicer! There’s so much talk of “freedom” these days, it’s kind of funny that we so willingly give it up, even in our own homes. That’s another topic I guess.

lnilesParticipantCool post. It is all so true. I lived in Japan for 5 years and was quite amused when there was public outcry in America over the fact that there was a huge trade imbalance between Japanese cars sold to the US and US cars that were sold to Japan (I believe this uproar was during the Clinton years).
If anyone had gone to Japan and seen their roads on a normal traffic day, they would have immediately known the reason: American cars are too wide (not to mention POS’s). The few Japan residents who did buy American (for god-knows-why) forced other drivers to actually pull over whenever the American car was coming down the road the other way! Ie, on a two-lane, two-way road, the cars going the other way have to pull over so the American car can get through!
WTF is up with this? Why does everything have to be big here?

lnilesParticipantI love my condo. I am a 36yo SWM and it is ideal. No lawn mowing, no landscaping, and I’m lucky that my neighbors are all around my age and quiet, active, working professionals. Every married friend of mine who comes over says “this is the life!”
