Participantouttamojo – once again, I agree w/CAR. Though my mom came here legally in the 50’s, she worked as a seamstress in slave conditions back in the day. We take for granted our work environment every day today, but back in the day, shops were tough to work in. Unions paved the way for humane working pay and conditions, until they got carried away as well. But the point is, your mom, my mom were glad to be in this country to work at any job, b/c if it were truly horrible, they would’ve stayed in the country they were in.
And as CAR said, I also do not condone illegal immigration. My mom came w/her family after the war. It took them over 10 years to try to get here. May take a while even today, but that’s the way it should be done.
And again, as CAR said, worker should fight to have standards up to ours, not bring ours back down to deplorable levels — including our economy.

But every item I’ve ever bought that was made in China has been of far worse quality than the same item that was once made in the USA. Can you think of something that is now made in China, that was once made here, that is of the same or better quality than the original, US-made product?I also want to support countries that have labor and environmental standards that are similar to — or better than — ours.
You know carenter, you really should redirect your attention to the corporate greedsters that are doing this versus “China”…
Participant
I don’t understand- are you saying it’s not good to overpay for something because it’s made in America?
No. Sorry you don’t understand. I’m saying it’s not good to make real estate be the main source of your economy and have it turn into an investment speculative bubble. I’m sure I don’t need to begin to explain it all as there are endless threads about it on this site. Perhaps you can read through some of them.
And again — overpaying for quality is different than overpaying for MIC crap.
But I suspect that your post was just one of taunting me, so I’ll just stop.

Participant
I digress but if we wanna buy something American made and pay a little more than it is worth because it is made in America and also keep it out of hands of non-citizens, then how about buying a house, it would really support American manufacturing and construction, banks and realtors : )
Pretty much the only thing that kept our economy going for the past decade. Look how well that’s turned out.
