One thing to remember is make sure you buy something that you can see at least once a week. I don’t care if you have a professional property manager or not. Unless you drive by a place on your way to the office, don’t buy it.
As to dollars, nothing in SD makes any sense. Try going vacant for a month in that SFR or Condo and see how well that works out for you.October 4, 2009 at 4:33 PM in reply to: Best neighborhood to BUY a rental property in San Diego? #464184jamsvetParticipantOne thing to remember is make sure you buy something that you can see at least once a week. She lasted 18 YEARS. We were private pay and it averaged 5k a month. That was for a nice place nothing spectacular, which we visited frequently at all hours to check on conditions. Hardest thing we ever did. Damn near destroyed my wife.

jamsvetParticipantI used to live in Poway and the heat can be unbearable. Having to run the AC just so you can get to sleep at night is common during the summer. I moved to pacific beach 25 years ago and never looked back. Over 20 years ago, we turned off the gas to our heater and haven’t turned it back on. We don’t have AC and there are only about ten days a year that it gets somewhat uncomfortable. Nothing you can’t live with. Poway is not as bad as Palm Springs but it’s close.
