I did think of palos verdes, my sister lived there for years and loved it. It is too close to LA for me, though. I went down the hill once, towards the LA side for some groceries and the store had bars on the windows. Same reason I don’t entertain north of LA. Santa Barbara would be great but, for me, too many cold days. I am comparing san diego to orange county though. While I know that the weather in coronado isn’t 70 degrees 365 days a year, outside of key west, I think that coronado offers just about the best weather. And, I love the cali “extraction of enjoying life everyday” that I’ve only felt there, despite some of the ding dongs that make you shake your head. No one really has said much about rancho santa fe, despite the long commute to the ocean. My wife has a cousin there and loves it. Again, thank all of you for your excellent feedback.

investorParticipantbearishgurl: Thank you for the info. Marin county is very attractive, but colder than I am looking for. I want to walk out of my front door and be in 70’s weather instantly, 365 days a year. (I thought about hawaii but I’m not sure if I want to put up with the anti-haole feeling that is growing there). I’ve had enough of delayed gratification in my life. San jose would be good but I’m competing with the $$$ of silicon Valley for housing, an unnecessary expense. What about living in coronado between the commuter streets and the del, so that I am tucked into the neighborhood but close enough to walk to the village and the ocean? That was my impression of del mar as well. Having proximity to shops/ocean but tucked into a neighborhood that is safe, private and appropriate. I thought that la jolla might be the same way but most folks on this thread don’t seem to like the feel of living in la jolla. Rich as well. (the program, which was filmed in la jolla, “hooked on beauty” is exactly what I am trying to avoid.) Again, thank all of you for your expert info.

investorParticipantGood thoughts. I know that for me, northern cali is not warm enough. The exception being san jose. Santa barbara is beautiful, but also colder than I am looking for. Coronado has a different planting zone than the rest of san diego so I am thinking that it is significantly warmer there year round. My biggest concern is the “vibe” at the different areas. Sounds like La jolla is too arrogant, del mar has the right mix, rancho santa fe also has golf but coronado intrigues me since it is fairly isolated, is similar to my area of great falls VA, is warm and seems to have the mom and pop stores that we both like. I am hoping that my wife, born in iran, will eventually fall in love with cali and move full time there. Hopefully, my income will be in passive and portofio income, reducing my exposure to earned income taxes.
