OK fine. You don’t like the heroin idea I take it. My sister-in-law could totally set you up, if you do. She’s been feeling excellent for nearly twenty years now.
Drugs have no appeal to me whatsoever. Generically, drug addicts are unhappy with their existences and seek to escape reality through artificial means. I quite enjoy my real life and have no interest in “escaping” it.
I’ve never had an illegal drug, including pot, although I support the legalization of all drugs. I didn’t start drinking until I was 34, and do occasionally like to have a few beers. I’ve never been shitfaced. But getting a moderate buzz going in the presence of entertaining company is one of life’s pleasures. Moderation in all things. Including moderation.
But if it’s pleasure you’re after (because life has no point), it’s all just a matter of brain chemistry. Whether you have an abundance of dopamine and norepinephrine provided by drugs or by a few beers and “entertaining” company, it’s all essentially the same.

I used to think just like this. Would never admit it, but I was miserable. There is no way that you can possibly have a happy life if you think there’s no point to it.
Funny, I feel exactly the opposite. Feeling that there IS some point to it – like pleasing some god with a beard, or whatever – would be depressing to me. Acknowledging that there’s no point to it all gives me an immense sense of freedom and calm.
But we’re all wired differently.
Why not just become a heroin addict? Then you’ll feel good all the time. Provided you have enough money to keep your habit going, your life will be set. -
