ParticipantLast week some $75 million of “fed funds” (that is, interbank overnight credit) was transacted at a rate of 15%, and “a bunch” went through in the low to mid 7s.
No, I didn’t mistype that. You can find the actual data at this link.
Originally I, and everyone else, assumed that the “high” was an error. A bad print. That there was no chance this was “real”.
It was.
What exactly is “a bunch”.
The MOST that could have been transacted at 15% would be about 2% of the daily volume. I see no indication of a “bunch”
The low was 4.65 and the volume weighted average was 4.86.
The high was 15. Using a little algebra would tell us that the maximum possible amount transacted at 15% would be about 2% of the daily volume. And that’s the maximum amount.
Is that a bunch ? Less than 2% of a single day’s volume ?Let’s look into the facts before sounding the alarms.
Expect a quarter-point cut.

ParticipantBlack Friday = The day after Thanksgiving. It’s traditional one of the biggest shopping days and theoretically puts the retailers “in the black” or at least seals their fate in terms of profits for the year. Hence the name Black Friday.

ParticipantPsst (whisper in ear) because they hate, despise, and attack anything which is a positive for the RE market because they are bitter (damn I should of bought back in 1999-2000!) and pessimistic until they become homeowners themselves (if ever???) and then they will do a 180. Essentially a selfish position infected with a dose of jealousy. On several threads you have people dancing on the burned ashes of others homes. Its rather pathetic.
There are plenty of owners and even multiple property owners, myself included, who post here regularly. We happened to have bought in 1996, 2000, and 2002. We are not bitter. We are not jealous.
We just have a short fuses for BS cheerleading.
Congratulations on avoiding the brunt of the fires and bringing this to our attention in multiple threads.
Now, let’s move on to relevant issues. How many homes currently with NODs in Fire-Proof ranch ?
How many NOTs. OK, these properties are fire-proof.Now, are they bubble-resistant ?

ParticipantNo overpriced 4S for me. I’d rather have a bullet and fire=proof Barrio Logan house. Easy commute downtown. No snobby Land Rover-driving pinheads. AND it’s safe from fires.
Prices are going to skyrocket in Barrio Logan !

ParticipantThis same thing happened in 2003 after the Cedar fire. No policies were written for several weeks. If I was an underwriter I definitely would not underwrite any policy as active fires were still burning in areas where people were evacuated within the last 72 hours. That would be like loaning money to people for 100% of the purchase price of their property based on stated income, stated assets, and giving them the payment option to have negative amortization.

ParticipantIf 4S is less likely to burn than other places people will be more likley to buy here
Barrio Logan is pretty fire proof. I don’t see people flocking there to prop up home values.
