ParticipantGlad to hear you’re doing better scaredy. Even though we’re all triple vaxxed, we still feel like we’ve just been lucky to dodge the bullet so far, and hope this surge is almost over, but, who knows if there might be another in our future.
Looking forward to watching what the new year brings in real estate and the stock market. It’s been a great ride for the past several years, so it will definitely be interesting to see what’s next.

ParticipantAgree with sdr. We live various places much of the year, but will never give up our San Diego properties, especially with most of our family and friends being in CA. Even HI, where we spend some of the year, can get old. Beaches, golf and all it offers are amazing, but variety is more interesting.
You never know what life may bring over time, so, imo, keeping property here is a smart move on many levels. Many friends do the same.
You should have no problem renting out your home in PL, should you choose to do so.
All the best with your plans!

ParticipantIf you have some particular zip codes in mind, go to sdlookup.com to get some idea of what’s currently available on the resale market, and the pricing.
Also, depending on your location of interest, there are some new communities around town you might want to check out.
The competition for housing is unlike anything we’ve seen in our lifetime in San Diego and in many other cities, so you might need some help from a realtor, and, even then, it may be a challege.
Wish you the best!

ParticipantAgree, sdr. We definitely did not see this coming, so it’s a bonus we never expected.
Certain elements evolving from the pandemic have given many people the option of finally living the lives they want to live, as we’ve all been doing for many years in San Diego. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds.

ParticipantHaving been invested in LJ for years, for us, it’s always been a great market. It has changed to some degree over the years, and now that just about every area of town is exploding, some, of course, more than others, everyone who owns property here is in a great position to take advantage of their good fortune. Ya gotta love that the newbies don’t mind spending big bucks to live here. Timing IS everything.

Participant

Have a friend who is a Vice Chancellor at UCSD, and they have never seen this level of enrollment. The good news is all of those potential homebuyers may want to stay in San Diego, which bodes well for our market.
Had a UCSD Vice Chancellor apply for a rental once. Have never seen that level of credit card debt before. Your friend?
As in all professions, there will always be those who have financial problems. I’ve run into lots of financial train wrecks over the years–it’s sad, but nothing new there.
The person I mentioned wrt an enrollment comment is a neighbor, and is doing very well.
Cool so you’ve seen their credit report
Yeah, actually. We’ve done some business deals together.

ParticipantAgree, we, and most people we know are doing more and more of the things we love–family activities, travel, visiting friends, entertainment (Broadway is back!) dining out, etc., etc.–hopefully that will continue, but you never
know–so enjoy the moment.flyer
ParticipantVia other connections who refer to us on a regular basis, and we do also have some fairly large complexes in various locations. We’re very diversified.
However, I’m sure your idea of keeping an ad up on your chosen platform would work also, especially if you know you’re going to have a vacancy in the near future. Make sure potential tenants understand it’s an interest list only, with no guarantees.

ParticipantThat’s great.
With the lack of availability, we have waiting lists a mile long, especially for our SFR’s, so you shouldn’t have any problems finding other tenants. Good deal!

ParticipantSo I’ve read. Scientific determinism vs. free will.
Definitely an interesting topic.

ParticipantAgree luck had something to do with it, but there were and are many other variables in play that required decisions–it didn’t all happen by chance.
It’s easy to ascribe the outcome of one’s life to luck–good or bad–since that removes personal accountability, but I don’t buy that. IMO, it’s definitely a combination of elements.

ParticipantSure, we all make mistakes, and, occasionally, learn from them, but marriage and real estate investment were two of the best decisions I ever made–and still going strong after 30+ years–the magnitude of which I could never have initially foreseen. Sometimes you just have to go with the moment.
