ParticipantRegarding the post about anti-abortionists not doing enough for the world’s poor, a recent study found that conservatives donate far more to charities than liberals. This was true even when church donations were taken out of the picture.
Also, FWIW Obama’s tax returns showed he and his $300,000+ per year wife gave under 2% of their income to charity last year. Bush reportedly gave over 10%, and McCain’s wife (OK, she’s rich) has done a lot for Rawanda for many years.August 31, 2008 at 6:45 PM in reply to: Hysteria versus Reality: The Secular Left has killed over 100 Million People #264451EconProf

ParticipantThat was a smart move from several standpoints. It tells the LL you are paying rent, and he’ll get his due if he does the right thing. It tells the bank and LL you have someone to negotiate on your behalf for an interim solution. Finally, it shows you cannot be pushed around by empty legal threats by either of the other two parties.

ParticipantThis is just more evidence that, long term, San Diego is not a good place for real estate investing. Demography is everything in real estate, and San Diego’s demographics do not look good on several counts. And this is all before the coming state fiscal tsumani of higher taxes and deteriorating services hits us.

ParticipantYou could buy raw land or lots in the path of development.
Land and lots usually move in the same direction as house prices, except more. Witness the plunging lot prices in the inland empire.
Advantages compared to a house: no tenant problems, maintenance, etc. Disadvantage: Texas has high property taxes.
Not clear from your question whether you’d move there or not. Owning & managing from afar is seldom a good idea. -
