ParticipantI’m going to be shipping 2 vehicles from VA to CA in May, a 2002 Honda Odyssey and a 2003 Mercedes E320. I contacted DAS for a quote. They gave me a price of $1400 for both vehicles with the Mercedes on the top rack (an additional $150 charge). This seems like an excellent price. It is not door to door. I will have to drop off the vehicles at a terminal 100 miles from our house. (Door-to-door service would have cost an additonal $400/vehicle.) Pick up in CA is not far from where we will be living. I will have to pay storage in CA for the vehicles as I will be traveling for 4 weeks from the time I drop them off in VA until I arrive in CA. The storage fee will be $10/day/vehicle for approximately 10 days. $1600 seems like a good price. Do you have any thoughts about the top rack for the Mercedes? Is it necessary? Thanks for the recommendation.

Participant314 E just went pending! $1769000 asking price for a Billy Box in the 300 block!
856 E #2 just raised the asking price from $1050000 to $120000! And that’s for a back unit of a 2 on 1 split 3500 sq ft lot.
What is going on here?
Maybe prices aren’t coming down in Coronado afterall. We’re never going to get back in.

ParticipantI’m with you PD but sitting on the sidelines will be tough. Do you have any thoughts on my rental questions? Also do you think there is a stigma attached to being a renter rather than an owner?

ParticipantThe (wishful) thinking in Coronado is no matter what happens anywhere else they will be fine.
PD, Are you thinking of buying or are you just watching?

ParticipantThanks PD,
I’m familiar with most of those places. I’m not interested in the 300 block. Actually I’d like to be in the 500 block on.
We’re leaning toward renting for a while to see how prices shake out.
We can only afford $1.4-$1.5M right now. We will be able to go up $300K or so in a couple of years. I’m hoping that something that is $2.3M now may be in the $1.7-$1.8M range in 3-4 years. Am I being unrealistic?

ParticipantThanks PD. Can you offer any advice regarding my rental questions?
Most of my friends in Coronado are homeowners so they have a vested interest in the market so I don’t think they’re being objective. They say real estate in Coronado is an emotional thing. Buyers will fall in love with a property and pay any price to get it. I know this sounds ridiculous but that seems to be the general mentality of owners there.

ParticipantThanks Lostkitty,
I would never have found those sights. Very interesting stuff.

ParticipantThanks Lostkitty,
I understand not wanting to post your email address and like someone else mentioned it’s too bad there is no way to private message a member.
Do you know if there is a way to look up an actual property address from a parcel number?
Thanks.

ParticipantHi Lostkitty
Where are you able to see the number of people with taxes in default?
I wish there was a way to private message you. I have so many questions specific to Coronado real estate and I’d like to pick your brain.

ParticipantI’m not expecting people to give their homes away for under a million in Coronado. Take a look at what is listed up to $2.5M. It’s ridiculous. How can these prices be sustained in these market conditions? I’m hoping things drop enough so I can find a decent house for under $1.5M.

ParticipantI’m still watching the Coronado market very closely. I’ve been told by a number of sellers and agents that prices in Coronado will never drop. People there will simply not give their homes away. I’m getting very discouraged. Not much seems to be moving but prices don’t appear to be dropping much either. Advice?

ParticipantThat should be Lease to OWN. Is there anyway to edit a posting? Thanks.

ParticipantThat’s what I thought. The info the realtor gave me is completely opposite. I’ve owned rental property and I would have loved to get a long-term lease from a good tenant.

ParticipantI recently spoke with 2 Coronado realtors trying to convince me that renting was a bad idea and that we should buy. “Prices are not going down and the market is strong.” One did admit that “2005 gains were suspect” and that the market could return to 2004 levels (which are still ridiculous). I mentioned that we were looking for a 2-year+ rental in anticipation of a better re-entry point in a few years. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to find a long-term rental. Most landloards will only offer a 1-year lease and then we’d have to move again. I am so discouraged. I don’t know what to think. Is it possible that prices will fall in all areas but Coronado?
