I’d bet the change in my pocket (currently zero) that there’s a connector under that module. The module housing is probably soldered to the board, but that’s easy to desolder and a lot less fragile than the flex connector.[/quote]Good thing you had no change in your pocket…There isn’t a connector under the module. It really is a surface mounted ribbon. It’s probably why a lot of them are breaking over time. Some dude wrote a FAQ on how to do this, but the last time I tried to solder something this fine, it didn’t work that well.

Like I said, stupid design if so. Would it kill these cheapass companies to make things that can be, you know, repaired by human beings? It’s not like flex cable connectors are expensive new technology.

ParticipantIt’s hard to tell what’s going on in the photo, but there has to be some way to remove the LCD module without desoldering the flex cable. I can’t see that whole thing going through a reflow oven as is, though it’s possible that they tacked down the flex cable as a second operation. Stupid design if so.

ParticipantI’m interested in this too. It is our agent who is doing the split (vs. broker) if that makes a difference.
It’s kind of academic in my case since my accepted offer is on a short sale…

ParticipantAwesome, thanks for sharing.
We’re on a tight budget, so this was more than just entertainment. I don’t know how we’d make it without big cheap bags of flour, rice, etc. from Costco.
Don’t feel sorry for us, though: I cook nearly everything from scratch, and we love po’ folks food.
