ParticipantIf the 30K interest is much higher than you should refinance. But before you get a new loan, you might want to consider borrow against your 401K if you have one to pay off the 30K. The will be repaying yourself on the 401K interest.

ParticipantI agree with raptorduck, I used to lived in Bay Area (SF, Fremont, Santa Clara) for over 25 years and people up there are more arrogant and less friendly. I moved to Poway 6 months ago and find SD areas are more suitable to raise a family. The weather in SD is much nicer and the housing is much cheaper comparing to Bay Area. I like CV and 4S but the new homes have not character and the big hit on your wallet for the mello roos. I am lurking in both areas and will make a purchase soon if the price is right. Comes to thing of it, price needs to drop another 10-20% before I consider.

ParticipantI am in the same boat as all you guys. I am currently renting but the wife would like to purchase a property soon in the next couple months because she thinks the RE will get better soon. She said you can’t time the bottom but at least get it at the low end and we plan to stay at the home for long term. I guess we will all wait and see how things will turn out as the economy is turning south.
