CoronitaParticipant
So what happened to Red Robbin? When did that close? They always had a crowd there and seemed to be doing stable long term business..
Loved that chicken hawiian sandwich they had…
Tortilla soup was really good too…
Yeah its been a while since I went to that mall…
Last time I was there I interview for my current job so that was almost three years ago.
CE
I know…I suspect (from what I heard from a merchant/stylist that had a shop there), a lot of shops ended up closing because they jacked up rent so high it drove out the older tenants….
At least Champagne Bakery is still there.
CoronitaParticipant
Red Robin’s service went down like a stone. I couldn’t understand it. My kids liked the food there so we kept going for a while hoping that things would improve. . . . but they didn’t. I’ve heard sort of equivocal things about Casa Sol y Mar – maybe the location is cursed.
Speaking of location, does anyone know what is going on the with land just south on El Camino from that mall? It looks like a run down (but inhabited) shack back in the woods on a multi-acre parcel of land. I’ve got to believe it would be worth a lot.
I saw that too. probably some owner that refuses to sell….
CoronitaParticipant

SDDuuuude and me took our respective wives to Searsucker last night…
The cougar crowd looking for men of means was quite entertaining…
CE
How was the food? I heard mixed reviews…
You’ve been to Snooze yet?
Well… We did a little of the Tappas thing…
Couple of shared appetizers then on to sharing a entree with our wives.
Appetizers were good. 8 out of 10… Duuuude had the Ono which is cooked purposely dry, the waiter told us this was the way it was supposed to be, and I think he would have given it a seven. I had the scallops, perfectly cooked, very nice tasting… 8 out of 10.
For a shi shi place I would say its right on par with what you would expect. Good… Not great… and a bit pricy…
If you are a “fruity-sweet” drink type then the alcohol menu may be worth trying alone.
I was all sugared out by the time we got there, as I had made some limoncello for Duuuude, and we had mix drinks at his house but they had some really interesting drinks on the menu that I had never heard of. My wife had this drink which I think had whiskey in it but it tasted like an cinnamon apple pie… Quite tasty. The also have a lot of alchol infused fruit. So worth a try there for the drinks.
It’s quite loud there so a bit of a “club” feel to it.
Haven’t even heard of Snooze so no… but now I’ll add it to my list.
If your a Carmel Valley type… I would highly recommend Trattria Ponte Vecchio. Small privately owned restruante. Chef is from Napoli… Ammmmazzzing italian food. Best gnocchi I have ever had though last time I ordered it wasn’t his… Must have ran out that night and served “store bought”. Make reservations… they are tiny and sometimes overbook. My only compliant is that they sometimes overbook and the kitchen gets slow…
No cougar crowd either…
And I really wasn’t kidding about the cougar / digger crowd… It was fierce… More than what you see at Del-Mar…
CE
I see. So I guess I’ll pass.
I’m kinda disappointed that they kinda shutdown most of the kid friendly places. I hate this mall now…
Urban Plate sucks…
Casa Sol y Mar is alright for the food, and relatively inexpensive, and nice people. I don’t think they will stay in business though. Not enough traffic…
The Counter. Meh, it’s ok….
There’s always Sammy’s which is good… (Their sister restaurant Roppongi in La Jolla use to be ok for dinner. But they took a lot of the better food off the menu and it isn’t that good anymore imho)..
The rest of the food in that mall is a bunch of overpriced so-so in a bunch of wannabe hipster places for a bunch of wannabe yuppies imho….
I hope One Paseo hurries up and opens.. So they can go over there.
Regarding Cougar/Gold digger-ville. Well, it’s Carmel Valley…
I hate parking right next to Searsucker.. But it’s right next to Ceramic Cafe now (no not me, kid you know)…

Snooze is my fav breakfast place. Used to go to the one in hillcrest and though Carmel Valley location would be less crowded, but not so. They can probably open a few more around SD like Broken Yolk.
I was going to try that place but in between waiting 45+mins for seat and the loud music, I haven’t been yet…
I miss IHOP in Carmel Valley, which it replaced…
Now I need to go to your hood to eat and risk getting shot…
Just kidding..

CoronitaParticipantI think that with the fed money printer ongoing, that what we’re going to have is even more asset inflation (stock, real estate, etc)….Meanwhile, I think paychecks are going to fall even further behind.
Looks like the wealth gap is about to get even bigger imho….
CoronitaParticipant
From the link above we have a Mira Mesa home – complete with NO WALLS.
http://terriblerealestateagentphotos.com/post/63658058115
LOL.
Walls are bad for resale value in lizard infested areas like Mira Mesa …..
Besides, it’s perfect for a traincar home….
Like this
Maybe I could get $1400/month for it….
CoronitaParticipant

Lol. That’s exactly the same one I have that broke with the bad 1/2 side memory bank… LOL….I’d try it with Amex anyway. I seriously doubt they would be figuring out whether it’s refurbished or not..
Worst comes to worse, if you’re just having a logic board problem and you go to the apple store, you’re out just $209 which isn’t that bad…
Great… I suppose I’m in for trouble then since I swapped out all the RAM for 16GB of aftermarket, and moved the original HDD to the secondary bay to install an SSD.
technically you already voided the warranty when you took out the HDD.. Because they only thing they allow you to do is swap memory. If you took out the motherboard yourself, technically you voided the warranty.. Kinda like modifying your car with a chipped ecu or putting on bigger turbos… But I doubt amex will know or care. If you want to be safe, return your Mac back to stock before you take it in for repair.
The apple folks at the store I’m sure were thrilled that after they repaired my logic board, I tested it by booting into Ubuntu first and then Windows 8, and then when they asked me about if I wanted to check the OSX Lion partition, I told them no worries, because I rarely use it these days… That and I asked them if they could s-beam me my receipt to my Galaxy S4, totally forgetting I was in an Apple store…Oops…

Aww, you scared him away.
Quick, somebody start talking about medical care in Thailand, the obesity epidemic…. wait, flu, start attacking liberals again, that’ll draw him out. Hurry, quick, stat!!!
lol
I’m a reformed person. No really, I am.
I’m liberal tolerant these days….
My medication helps out a lot. 🙂Thanks for the morning chuckle ocr…

CoronitaParticipantI can’t wait until February when we go through this all over again….
🙁
CoronitaParticipant

Unfortunately, you’re daughter is renting in an area where rental is in high demand due to the proximity to Sorrento Valley tech center. Short of something catastrophic to said the major tech companies there (*cough* qualcomm *cough*), it’s unlikely this will subside. There is a huge luxury condo complex being built at the end of Mira Mesa Blvd/I-15. I am pretty sure that whomever owns that complex has done extensive research into this submarket, probably with more data than any of us combined. And folks that scoffed at the new Pardee SFH and attached communities off of Flanders have been pretty much been proven wrong… Most phases are sold out….
Correction, Camino Santa Fe & Calle Cristobal/Sorrento Valley Blvd., not Flanders. There’s no new houses going up on Flanders AFAIK.
Corrected. I was thinking about a business off of flanders….We’re talking about the same thing…Basically where Pardee is constructing new homes that are identical to the ones in Carmel Valley Carriage Run development for not much less than Carmel Valley old prices, and to my surprise. Pretty successful in selling them out…
CoronitaParticipant
I am holding off buying until rents equal the mortgage payment. Dr Housing Bubble swears prices must adjust to rents. But then again it is San Diego so add the wild card.Gunslinger is correct, 2 years ago. 400k would buy 8 50k rentals in Holly Michigan with city water /sewer. Rent 800 plus each. Taxes at 200 mo . 600 x 8 4800 minus repairs . way over 10%.
30 miles north Detroit within commuting. I passed on these due to my job @ 15k gross month equals 25 rentals income and no hassel. But its there for you/ but 400k to lose money ?
Unfortunately, you’re daughter is renting in an area where rental is in high demand due to the proximity to Sorrento Valley tech center.
