Can’t afford it, except maybe Fiat. Lol….

CoronitaParticipant
I’m on a couple of car boards. The word is some dealers will sell out their allotted cars. Some will not. If you really want one, call around.

Thank you for contacting XXXX. My name is XXXXXXX, Internet Sales Manager, and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you with your request. In regards to your inquiry, we currently have a waiting list of about 42 people with hopes of purchasing a GT4. The reality is with Porsche only producing less than 500 of these vehicles it will be nearly impossible to fulfill the current demand we have. We are anticipating maybe getting 10-15. So at this time are not adding to our interest list but I will keep in touch should anything change.

Just like real estate, I hate those multiple offer scenarios. I’ll pass.

CoronitaParticipant
Perhaps a cool device would be an automatic recording that plays by speaker when the doorbell is rung:
The police have been automatically contacted. They are on their way. You are in violation of penal code 602 a trespass. Please lie down and put your hands on yr. Head.
I prefer a message that says
Push 1 if you want to be pepper sprayed
Push 2 if you want to get shot
Push 3 if you want to be beaten with a night stick
Push 4 if you want to be run over by a car
CoronitaParticipant
On the plus side, if this goes through, maybe you can be called a “val” too flu.
Just kidding, but we would have to remove the Dealers license plate frames if you bought your car from a SF-Valley dealer before going to the beach if you did not want your car damaged (back in the day).
Then, let’s just call it “The 92130”
CoronitaParticipantScardey.
If there’s some random person knocking on my door.
I make sure they know I’m home, but I don’t answer the door. I make sure they know someone is home so they don’t try to break in, if they are looking to do that. But even if I am home, I’m not obligated to open my door for any of the solicitors. I never do. They can knock as long as they want, if they so choose. The door stays closed. Just like I don’t answer phone callsfor which I don’t recognize the phone numbers from caller id. If it’s important enough, they’ll leave a message
CoronitaParticipantHey they wrote about “The Valley” today.
http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2015/feb/22/one-paseo-carmel-valley-smart-growth-planning/
Great. Home prices are now going to shoot up another 20% because, we’re even more awesome now.
CoronitaParticipant
Given the high number of Asians in Carmel Valley, I am waiting for an 85C Bakery to open. People would then understand the meaning of traffic, haha..
Maybe Susan Lew will open a Dim Sum restaurant too.
Good chinese food will never be successful in high cost areas like Carmel Valley, the same way good Pho places will never be successful here too. The margins would be too low to be profitable in high rent areas, unless the prices were considerably jacked up. But if that happens, most chinese people wouldn’t go there because they expect the food to be cheap, so most likely the restaurant would end up being less authentic to cater to everyone else. That’s why even chinese people end up opening sushi places and japanese restaurants and why there are a lot of sushi places in Carmel Valley. Because the margins are much better and people are use to pay a lot for sushi. For whatever reason, people expect chinese food to be cheap and good, in as much as people expect things made in china or taiwan to be cheap, while people are use to paying a lot more for things from Japan (like digital camera lenses)
CoronitaParticipant

Maybe I am wrong,
But it seems like the only people who want this project don’t actually live in CV LOL.
.
I guess there is your answer.Put it in other people’s back yard.
PIIOPBY LOL
Though I don’t live in CV, in my area, there are two new developments that are much denser and larger than One Paseo and I fully support them. So, it’s not about PIIOPBY. I would have loved to have the neighborhood strip mall be wiped out and put in something like One Paseo as well.
Well, that’s easy to explain…See in your hood, it’s run down and blighted. So new high density expensive developments would bring things up from being those ghetto neighborhoods. So it’s like East Palo Alto suddenly becoming more like Palo Alto.
In Carmel Valley, we like and expect exclusivity. In fact, if it was up to us, we would prefer instead of being called Carmel Valley, just drop “Carmel” and add a “The” and use the exclusive name “The Valley” (not just any Valley, but The Valley).
Better yet, we would like an entire primetime show dedicated to our zip code: “92130”. Just because in “92130”, everything is awesome.
With that, we don’t want a lot more people invading our exclusivity, especially a bunch of renters that can tap into our everything awesome 92130 school district and enjoy all the benefit that us 92130 homeowners enjoy after sacrificing arms/legs/foots/organs to be able to afford to live in our everything awesome zip code with our everything awesome schools.
We like our $400+ per sqft unaffordable home prices and our limited amount of rental communities so that we can maintain our total everything awesome exclusivity. Because, like I said, in “The Valley”, everything is awesome.
🙂 (…bad Lego Movie satire attempt)
CoronitaParticipant
Speaking of toilet paper, anybody else notice that it is not the same quality paper that it used to be at Costco. It is not as thick, the sheets don’t tear evenly and often I’m left with single ply instead of 2 ply. I know lots of people like organic because i see it in their carts all the time, but I actually don’t, I will not buy strawberry jam there because the only choice is organic, today I had to spend $6.99 for organic croutons (probably would have been half that price if they were not organic), granted I have not tried them yet so I won’t judge them until I do.
I’m surprised Costco hasn’t decided to replace the existing stash of lesser quality toilet paper with rolls of Rubles in the bulk isle. It would probably be cheaper at this point…But anyway. Toilet paper is so low tech…

CoronitaParticipant
Not worth getting together with other parents and donating one to my son’s middle school then?
Academia is different. Pooling funds, you could get a much better printer and plus kids would have the time to/energy/patience to do something with it. I’d say though it would be more appropriate for high school kids with an interest in it though.
CoronitaParticipant
Now my Samsung Galaxy 5 will no longer accept a generic charger, seems to insist on genuine Samsung, kinda reminds me of Motorola trying to sell more shit.
You don’t need a special charger. You just need the pseudo-special USB cable. I thought that was no longer the case for some time though.
CoronitaParticipantImho for most of the home/hobbiest 3-d printers..not worth the time (more so than the money) if you are expecting “finished” product results, unless you like messing with acetone vapor baths, etc.
Ex-coworker has one. And we have one at work.
1. Extrusion process a long time for something small. For example, we printed a simple 3x3x3 simple object, and I think it was like 2-3 hours.
2. Finish is pretty rough if you’re looking for commercial quality results. Hence the mention of acetone vapor baths. To get a really smooth finish, that a cheap and dirty way of doing it.
3. It can be really really frustrating when the plastic filament cools, it warps so things aren’t perfectly straight.
4. Unless you only plan to print things that are already have some cad/reference file, be prepared to spend some time brushing up on your CAD skills.
That said, if you are a hobbiest and want to experiment, and have something specific you want to build, and and have the time and patience for it, go for it. Prices aren’t bad now, though you know they will get cheaper too. Imho, it’s not ready for primetime people who don’t have the time nor the patience to deal with its limitations.
I’ll try to find out what brand my ex coworker has and go to the lab to figure out what we use.
That 3-D printed cell phone case, for example, will take you a long time, probably won’t look as nice as that $2.99 case you get from some vendor in Hong Kong you buy off of Amazon that includes free shipping from Hong Kong, complete with tracking number.

Thanks. That’s exactly what I was looking for.
