CoronitaParticipantGood luck with that one….
Have you tried approaching the upstairs tenant in a polite way and explain to them the situation politely and ask if could try to tone down the run, stomp, music after late hours? Or if they don’t have carpetted flooring, asking politely if they can get some carpets.
I don’t think trying to deal with this by force will help. First, you won’t be able to “sue” successfully. Second, if you approach the HOA, they will probably wash their hands clean of this, and the upstairs tenant can deny they are doing anything, and could blame everything on the terrible acoustics of the building. Third, the moment you try to deal with this situation by force, what might have been people upstairs being unknowingly inconsiderate could quickly escalate to being intentionally inconsiderate. And then, you’re really in a worse situation.
For example, my relative shares an building with a nasty woman downstairs. And my relative’s upstairs is all wood floor. So unless my relative’s visitors are extra careful, the slightly heavy walking, or moving things will echo downstairs. This person downstairs has never asked nicely, and so my relative stopped trying to be considerate to them… When I visited them with my kid, we were moving the bed, and my kid forgot and jumped off the bed onto the wood floor, making a thump. The person downstairs was pissed and knocked on the door and started screaming about it. We said we were sorry, but at that point my relative was pissed. So they started vacuuming upstairs and moving furniture in the middle of the night…..And when my kid forgot and started bouncing on the bed and I told my kid stop, my relative said “why bother? Jump harder…”
Just saying….
I guess the lesson to learn is try to avoid buying a downstairs unit? 🙁

CoronitaParticipant,…So the way I combatted this last night is I started speaking in heavy thick (make-believe) mandarin accent… I think today I will put on my heavy thick Indian call center accent…
I left the ringer off for the rest of the night. Unfortunately, one of the phone calls at midnight was from my alarm company to report someone smashed the window of one of my homes last night…Lol.. Good thing there was an alarm….Too bad I didn’t pick it up…

CoronitaParticipant

Outsourcing to India is not as easy as it sounds and not a cheap as it used to be.
(unless you want lousy work done).
Very very hard to get someone there at 11:00 AM here and work for more than a few months before quitting,
Actually much easier to hire someone here to work from midnight to 9 AM than it is in India.
Doesn’t matter, the decisions makers don’t believe your excuses and the people selling the services blow massive sunshine saying otherwise.
In the end, it’s a spreadsheet showing a guy like flu making $200K a year here and a guy ‘like’ flu there making the equivalent of $40k.
Mid-level technical people can be staffed for sub-$10/hr there.
Thin the herd, make the staffing someone elses problem, give them a margin slice and take a fabled 30% of your labor expense.
Well it’s funny that you should mention that…Because right now, my senior managers are finding they need about 9 people to cover all the things I was previously working on. If I didn’t like my VP so much, I really like my VP so I’m doing what I can think of to ensure a smooth transition…
because my VP’s is one of the few that totally doesn’t try to offshore things as the first idea, despite all the headwind they are getting from the bean counters….If it was any other type of senior manager bean counter that was trying to get me train an overseas team, I would have refused. I think there’s a hidden code we’re trying to hand off as much as possible to our domestic locations because we know the results will be better….July 7, 2015 at 4:14 PM in reply to: OT: For all the crap people give walmart….seems like they treat their software engineers pretty well :) #787765
CoronitaParticipant
Their high compensation is reflective of the fact that they have to overcome negative perceptions likely held by many of the qualified candidates for this type of work.
What negative perception? eCommerce is eCommerce is eCommerce… If I were still in enteprise backend development, I would totally apply….
And if I got the job and people asked me where I worked, I would say “I work at Walmart. I enjoy greeting people everyday in the storefront… and they are paying me a heck of a lot for it..”

CoronitaParticipant
It may not be worth your time, but I wonder if this is a money making opportunity? You say they are consistently calling. Can you record them (you have to inform them that you are recording) or at least log the calls. You could put it on speaker phone so someone in your home can be a witness that the call happened. Tell them each time to remove you from the list. There is supposed to be agencies to deal with “do not call” violations. A few that came up with a Google search
https://www.fcc.gov/encyclopedia/do-not-call-list
https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx
http://ag.ca.gov/donotcall/dnc_complaint.phpI’ve never gotten consistent calls (after I told them to take me off the list), so I’ve never been in a position to make money, but perhaps you can!
I’ve gotten the Windows Technical Support call a few (<5) random times. So far I've just had fun with it by having them quote prices and then telling them I have nothing but Linux (not true) or my favorite, asking, "I don't have any Windows machines, but can I pay you some money anyhow?"
Good luck.
Dave
They aren't based in the U.S. It sounds like the people running this scam are using a call center out of India (and I don't mean this in any disrespect to folks from India), but I was able to trick one "agent" into giving me a callback number, and it was an international number based in India.
It's just annoying that my phone rings late at night for the past few days...I guess I can turn off the ringer.
I'm going to try to snag one of their ip addresses. Unfortunately, I'm not a hacker type... If I were evil, I might be compelled to try to unlease a virus or two on THEIR systems.

Already did that, and they hung up and called back the next day.

CoronitaParticipantAwhile ago, I said I would never shop at walmart. But I have to admit that I’ve made purchases from their online stores several times recently because in many cases their prices are more competitive versus amazon, especially after amazon lost it’s no sales tax collection status. I still buy stuff from Amazon and use their amazon prime services. eWalmart is actually pretty good imho. I get the feeling corporate walmart is changing. And at least wrto to software engineers, they seem to treat their engineers pretty well (at least right now)…

CoronitaParticipantI know how these scams work. What they do is they try to convince people to give them remote share access to your computer, and then try to scam you out of money or mess up your system and than ask you to pay. I’m thinking of setting of a virtual instance and while they are trying to f up my virtual instance, try to trace back their ip address…..I wonder how hard that would be to do…
CoronitaParticipant
My 2006 has 170 HP but it is 200 lbs heavier, fun to drive. When I got tires for it the guy was surprised that the car had no spare, yep no extra space for that.
I don’t have a spare for my NA. I just took it out. It also doesn’t have the carpet or anything else. I also ditched the 30lb battery for 2.5lb battery. My wider tires are heavier than stock while the rims drop 2lbs each, so theres probably a 5 lb gain per wheel. The supercharger and rollbar adds about 80lbs,so it probably evens out on what I took out versus what I put on. I haven’t had time to put it on a scale yet. Goodwin has a 2.5 conversion for your car, and cogsworth has a carb legal supercharger for the NC. Just saying….
CoronitaParticipant
Is there still a folding hardtop, or has that bit of porkfat been retired?
PHT will be an option. Softtop is standard. No word on a removal hardtop, though it probably will happen. Some clubs don’t allow open roof cars on a track.
Corner weight was posted on that forum with 200lb driver. Near even. And total weight included 6gals of gas I think was 2484 with driver 2283 without
CoronitaParticipantWhat amazed me was how solid the fit and finish was despite all the weight loss. Mazda engineers really thought things out pretty well. If you notice on the passenger side, they shrunk the passenger footwell and made part of it narrower where the transmission runs. As far as headroom, I didn’t feel cramped and I saw big people fit just fine. The amazing part was how light the folding top was. One hand operation and it was effortless. Unlike to original na and nb.
CoronitaParticipant
I like the ND, but agree with flu’s advice. In the mean time, grab an NA1 to keep you happy. They’re fun little cars.
As far as the auto vs stick thing, if there’s such demand for a real transmission, why didn’t Mazda plan to produce more sticks vs idiotmatics? Confused about their planning or lack of planning.
There are two crowds for miatas. The racing enthusiasts. And the ones like like it for the looks and will just daily drive them. They won’t have a problem selling the automatics. It’d just the initial rush from enthusiasts that want to be the first to get them on the track.
CoronitaParticipantDude. You will be lucky to pay MSRP for a 2016 ND with a stick if you are ordering now. Until the hype dies down, all the ones with the proper manual transmission are sold out for the first batch. I think only automatics can be preordered right now, if at all.
It’s not going to be a limited production car, so wait a year or two, until the miata enthusiasts are done.
Have you sat in the 2016 miata? Its awesome. Brian Goodwin / rocky miatamotive had one last week at the tech session.power numbers might seem low, but those that drove it says its as quick as an NC with the weight less than an NB with a much stiffer frame. I wouldn’t pay premium right now, but its a pretty good car.

I thought the 1600lb red catfish was cooler though.
CoronitaParticipant
Thanks, flu. I have an appointment. You called it on the availability. Her next available was October! But that’s fine, that’s when I’m due for my next 6-month check.
I really appreciate the recommendation. Thank you.
You are welcome. I think once you get into the system it gets easier to get an appointment. I have never seen this person so let me know how it goes. You’ll need to insist on going through everything. The more paranoid you are, the more thorough they will be.
