CoronitaParticipant

I was talking to a friend who was complaining that “girls” act sexy, that is they use seduction to get ahead; yet they complain they are harassed.
You know, I was talking to some men who like to show off how rich they are. The funny thing is, they get so upset when people mug them. I know it’s ridiculous, but I guess you actually have to ask them: can I have some of your money? ;)
I think it’s pretty funny that many men, even those that claim to be open minded, still can’t get it through their head that it is entirely possibly for a woman to be beautiful and smart at the same time, but instead think that if she is beautiful and did well, she must have used looks to move up…often happens with dirty old men who are still single, probably for a good reason.
One of my late 20 something European colleagues is dealing with this all this time….She’s a data scientist, probably one of the most talented one on the team. it’s funny trying to watch men trying to hit on her all the time during happy hour.
She’s also the first one we put on a candidate’s interview schedule…. Because unlike most of the folks my team, she is the one that enjoys asking those brain teaser Google type software interview questions because she sort of likes seeing people squirm trying to solve them. lol…
But we obviously pair her with at least one other on the team…Why? Because when we use to send her into an interview by herself, you want to guess how many times a candidate would try to hit on her during the interview? I shit you not. And almost all the time, the candidate first thinks she’s the blondie from HR…..(our HR person is a guy lol)
The first time she mentioned it jokingly , freaked a lot of us out. We ended up sending at least two people per interview. and if the candidate even remotely went down that route, that interview terminated early….like immediately. I think some the candidates thought we were Tinder or something. go figure.

CoronitaParticipantI don’t know. I bought 8000 shares of CHK when it dipped to below $3…
it’s a shitty company…. but that’s what people said about AMD when I also bought about 8000 shares when it was around that same price……
But at least I don’t call this “investing”……I call this buying lottery tickets with slightly better odds, lol.
over the long period I think my indexes still consistently beat….
A Qualcomm buyout or the rumored massive layoff in 2 weeks to save $1billion should reward shareholders handsomely…not.to mention accelerate the retirement of a lot of old resters and vesters.
CoronitaParticipant
Maybe he wants to reduce turnover. A long time ago I was advised to never raise the rent on a good tenant, and I never have.
winnar!
Actually, I had no turnover over the past 5 years here in SD. Nice reliable “pension”.
I’d rather spend most of my time running, racing, or family time that trying to milk every last dollar out of the current market price and deal with turnover.
Not greedy, as long as it’s profitable.
As far as I’m concerned, tenants pay for my fun time these days and maybe a little extra retirement…. though I think I’m capping my car expenses at $10k, excluding maintenance items like tires…Then again there’s a new P-car GT4 coming out soon…..So…hmmmmmmm….maybe this time…..

CoronitaParticipant
Flu, if you truly indifferent like an economist would define “indifferent” then why put your money in the stock market? There are so many ways you could spend your money, give it away or whatever.
You still think the stock market is the best investment and you expect an upside in the long run. The more people think this way, the more likely the market will move up.
That’s not quite being indifferent.
the long term returns of the stock market is isn’t bad. just like long term outlook on some real estate isn’t bad. Cash earning nothing is pretty bad imho.

CoronitaParticipant

down again and Morgan Stanley has just come out saying this is just an appetizer and to wait for a massive crash later this year… buckle up. Seriously what did the retards in Washington think was going to happen when they took on all this ridiculous debt?
I fail to see how this is Washington’s fault. and if a crash was so obvious that it was going to happen to everyone, why would one move a massive amount of money into the market right before it happens..
Seems to me that the beginning this year the markets were still going gangbusters and that drew even the most bearish into the markets from the fear of missing our additional gains.
My has the markets changed its tune in just a few weeks. it will be a perfect time to buy end of this month, and end of next month, and the following month, and the month after, and the month after…..
bring on the big correction. I am excited.
Not sure why you would wish for a declining market. I much prefer the rising markets the past two years. I’m going to start increasing cash instead of making money owning stocks. Was at 99 percent stock. Even after selling GOOG a few weeks ago, I’m still at 96 percent stock. In this high volatility environment, I need to keep reducing my stock ownership by selling. This choppiness is only good for day traders.
I don’t care either way because I don’t need to touch any of the money for a long time. I don’t need to buy a home to live in, I don’t need any more cars, my kid will be able go to college on a full ride from Bank of Parents.
If we see a few bumps here and there , same monthly investments will by low, buy high….
everything else is just bragging rights, like my net worth is $X.
old age is start to set in…. I don’t give a flying f, lol.
CoronitaParticipantTwo of tenants are moving out after living for 5 years at my place…Both having a kid and both just got their greencards…And both bought houses….they thanked me for 5 years of not raising their rent and they sent me a bunch of referrals. I finally can increase rent prices to market price by $300ish/month and still be competitive.

CoronitaParticipant
Turning 39 this year. Had about 30% of my retirement in cash up until last week, at which point I got sick of watching the market go up up up and dumped about half of it into a few large cap growth stocks, only to see them get pummeled this week. Oh well…lots of time before I retire.
Curious to see where we go from here.
I think if you make regular investments over the longer period of time, you have nothing to worry about. That way you get the highs and the lows and everything in between….
The best performing account I have is my kid’s 529 account because they severely limit what you can and cant do.
Currently, I do a automatic investment of roughly $5000/month into post-tax index and 529 accounts, in addition to the maximum 401k contribution. I have no mortgage and have net rental income, and since my life’s monthly “operational costs” are relatively low, I have nothing better to do with the surplus.
The automatic investment I’ve done since 1996, though the amount was much less back then.February 10, 2018 at 1:32 PM in reply to: The stock market is tanking, we should be happy right???? #809255

CoronitaParticipantouch. markets ended badly….are we back to March 2017 prices yet?
funny thing is I got a bunch of CDs maturing on March 2018 too. maybe that was a good thing afterall, lol…..
me thinks the indexes will be negative this year. gonna be difficult to recover this loss ….

CoronitaParticipant

Dow down another 500+pts… getting close to 10% correction….how are folks feeling now? housing doesn’t even correct this fast.
There are a few individual stocks that are dropping close to my buying range after today. Index still seems too expensive for me.
I’ll just wait for my $5000 monthly auto investment to kick in end of February, March April, etc.
10% loss since the beginning of the year. it will take a long time just to break even….home prices don’t even fall that quickly that fast in better parts of town. why worry about how expensive home prices are…at least one can live an an overpriced home that correct say 10%. one can’t live in index funds that correct 10%…
I guess this is why a good portion of wealth is still made from old school rental property….much more predictable it seems.

CoronitaParticipant
c’mon man… 7% decline is not tanking, it went up that much just in Jan, mathematically it has to correct otherwise what kind of annual return are you expecting.. 150%?
if you bought into the indexes at the beginning of the year, you are now negative . 7% is a lot. it’s slightly above a reasonable annual return.
