CoronitaParticipantBrian, if you can’t distinguished between calling an individual crazy because of or her viewpoint on public policy versus generalizing to an entire group of people , you are beyond help.
I am not surprised you immediately bring up the race card in talking about AOC why people don’t like her. it’s what “progressives” like you do when you can’t argue over policy and have to bring race or gender into the equation. after all, it’s far easier to shut down the other side by side by throwing out the race card or gender card versus actually disagreeing based on what the individual says. I would have brought up an equal disdain for Warren but you would bring you her gender as the reason for why someone would dislike her… And if I were to bring up Bernie, you would probably bring up age discrimination as the reason why people do t like him….Always use whatever means to win an argument, play the race and victimcard. Nice. Not surprised at all.
Buy hey Brian, I threw you a bone. Now you can spend the next 2 weeks commenting on this thread and turning it into a left versus right slapfest that you’ve been trying but unsuccessfully doing on the other threads you try to resurrect from ages ago for that purpose. Most of us have figured this out already, which is why there is usually 0 responses.
CoronitaParticipantWalter. Pretty much everyone is an asshole. The only difference is where the assholeness is directed to.
CoronitaParticipantI’m not very religious…
But for argument’s sake…
What’s the difference between ridiculing people of Christian faith over a blog, hurling insults at such religion, and religious people, spitting and pissing on what probably matters a lot to them…versus hurling a bunch of stereotypes and a vulgarities about a say an Latino or African American or Muslim?
Is this sort of ridicule here on this thread *that* much different than Donald Trump’s ridicule and disdain for Muslims, or have we all sunken to an all time low across the board?
CoronitaParticipant
Hopefully Intel stays in SD, I don’t know what their intentions in SD will be without 5G.
I think Intel bought an AI company here in SD, I think it was called Nervana Systems or something like that. So they will probably just retool and put them to work on that
CoronitaParticipant
Seems like a good time to sell when a stock is at a high market cap relative all other stocks in previous history.
INTC/CSCO in the 2000s. Maybe MSFT, AAPL, AMZN these days.
I dont know. Its just these days my risk appetite has fallen off a cliff. The saying goes when you are you gder, you can afford to take risks because you have nothing to lose.. As you get older, you spend most of your time trying to protect what you built. I can see that.
So I’ve been combing through all the individual stocks I own and figuring out who owns what, and removing duplicate investments just in case things blow up (again). For some of these high flyers, taking half off the table.
The exception is AMD .. I don’t own any shares, just a bunch of call options that expires Jan 2020, some of which were bought when AMD was $2.50-3/share, some when it was $20-22/last year. I’ll need to do something before the end of the year because they expire in 2020, and I’d rather book the gains this year versus 2020. Hoping for a good Q1 and Q2 to get out.
CoronitaParticipant
Wow it is hard enough to hold an index fund through the up’s and downs since then.
Good on them.
Well they had their fair share of suckers… They sold Apple before jobs took over at a loss and bought companies like webvan lol…I told them not to do that but hey, those were irrational times… Surprisingly they bought Facebook post IPO when I went off on not doing that….i guess it was good they didn’t listen to me… it’s a crapshoot imho…. which is why I think I like this indexing thing…
They mistakenly told me to buy stocks instead of real estate because at that time their real estate was sucking wind… I listened to them when I was younger, and in hindsight that was a mistake. should have bought real estate and less stocks…It took until the 30ies before I realized that mistake.
Anyway I think Qualcomm is the first supplier that successfully put the screws to Apple …Apple deserves it… As a someone that formerly worked at a company that was also their supplier, they were a major dirt bag to work with, almost as bad as Samsung. It’s about time someone screwed them over.
As far as Intel, 5G ends up being like 4G which was like their WiMax… DOA…
Intel marketing was saying how 5G was ready and showing off chips that where basically fake non functional units…. lol…
CoronitaParticipant
Wow!!!
This is a big deal, 5G — Intel out QCOM in
Yup …. I think it’s about time to get out of AMD ..they’ve had a good run. but Intel pulling out of 5G means they will refocus on their core cou and server business again…..So AMD might have about 2 more good quarters before things really start to get competitive…
I sold my qualcomm holdings yesterday to diversify… speaking to my parents, I found out recently they still hold a lot of shares since 1996 when I working there and told them to buy. They never sold a single share, so one of us needs to diversify. Apparently they’ve also held on to Intel since 1981ish… it’s because of that why I don’t hold a single Intel share. there were times that both these companies fell big-time .. it was a wake-up call that I needed to spread out the risk. yeah, more passive index funds for me… lol
CoronitaParticipant
$12K less this year on slightly higher income.
But our refund was smaller. Funny, we didn’t even notice our paychecks going up. I guess we don’t live close enough to the edge. I suppose that means our refund will be even smaller next year, since the paycheck changes took effect mid year.
so your tax went down too… interesting … so this wasn’t that bad after all for some people even in this state.
CoronitaParticipant
SDCCU has a promotional 2.5% 16mo cd that is tempting. That should pretty good right? Don’t have to open an account in some internet bank.
Anything below 3% imho is just not worth a year or more commitment. I’d rather “pay” by have slightly less interest for liquidity…
Money markets are around 2.4% right now, and I can move stuff in an out.. The difference.1% isn’t worth committing to a CD for me.
Going to costco and buying a bunch of See Candies Gift Certificate for a 1lb box of chocolate will probably outpace a 2.5% CD..
Buying a box of USPS “forever” postage stamps will outpace a 2.5% CD…lol.

CoronitaParticipantso it seems like the the tax cuts have been beneficial to people here so far…. interesting…..
CoronitaParticipant
LOL Thanks flu, sorry I should have been more clear,
My wife will not let me “have” a metal-detector.
Too many honey do’s won’t get done LOL.
Sigh…This is where you need to “think outside the box” and merge that idea with “do first, ask for forgiveness later” together… Let me explain…
Step 1: Go here and buy your metal detector and leave it in your trunk
https://www.harborfreight.com/9-function…Step 2: Go here and buy something around $500
https://www.tiffany.com/jewelry/shop/earrings/Step 3: show your wife the metal detector, and withstand whatever scolding you get from her… Say things “you’re right dear. I’m sorry dear. I don’t know what I was thinking dear. Because I was stupid, dear. I’ll make sure not to waste that much time dear…. Don’t worry dear, it’s more as a joke dear.
Step 4: wait a few days and say you’re going to the beach for an hour to exercise, because you’re trying to lose weight…and then go play with your metal detector for a few hours….
Step 5: when you come back home, before she has a chance to get pissed at you for being at the beach for a few hours jerking around with your metal detector… in the happiest mood say “Honey, honey. I’m sorry I’m late, but I was at the beach playing with my metal detector, and look what i found with it!!!!” And quickly pull out the thing you bought in step 2 coverd with wet sand and show her…
Even if she doesn’t believe your bullshit, if you remember to do step 2 each time after you do step 4, you’ll be fine so long as each time what bring back in step 2 is better than what you brought back last time… As a rule of thumb use this simple formula to guide you:
$J(new) = $J(old) * 2
Which is why I suggest you start your first step 2 $J(first) around $500.
Apology is policy…
CoronitaParticipant

I don’t want to just sit on my ass on day or waste all my time working on my cars….
My wife refuses to let me get a metal detector so I can search for treasure on the beach, I guess I will just keep working.
$50…. With a 25% coupon you normally can get, it’s $40 after tax.
Tell you what, PM your address and I’ll send you one…And I’ll give me your address and you can send me these 6 ton jack stands I want to get , as one of many things I “need”..I think I am going to figure out how to do my own alignments. at least for my two cars. I think the alignment shops are getting tired seeing me every month that or two with my lifetime alignment package

CoronitaParticipantTime is more precious than money these days…Today is a great example…
I am getting old… hopping park to park didn’t use to be so tiring. And I’m starting to feel it. I use to ride the above all the time no problem. It’s not that the g’s that bother me… It’s the cracking of my neck and back and muscles after being flung around a few times. Six Flags also got this pretty new ride called X2… It’s just ridiculously awesome, you start out leaning backwards, head first…But 7 times later, my neck hurts and my head kinda hurts. It didn’t help the first ride was at night when I couldn’t see.. . unfortunately, I wasn’t able to sneak my GoPro on board. Try again in the summer, after I’ve recovered .. That’s what season passes are for….lol
CoronitaParticipant
I think I learned from my parents the fallacious reasoning that if you worry, then it will tend to make things come out all right, and people who don’t worry are fools, so the reason you must worry is to avert disaster.. Sometimes I think, “I made it!”, as if the outcome is still uncertain and I need to remind myself that I’m doing great… I’m not sure where I made it to, but I definitely seem to be doing good, and I don’t really worry about money. Nowadays, it’s more of a sense of time running out and the feeling like maybe I have wasted big chunks of time.
Andy Grove (former Intel CEO) best said it..
“Only the paranoid survive”…
ok, maybe a little exaggerated for everyday life but the gist of it useful….
That said. I am ready to retire. I want to do something else. Doing tech is getting to be a drag for me. unfortunately, I haven’t motivated to find what that something else is yet. I don’t want to just sit on my ass on day or waste all my time working on my cars…. and generally the tech scene is still good and it’s hard to say goodbye especially when it’s not difficult work….I am getting lazy in my older age. lol
