Yup …. I think it’s about time to get out of AMD ..they’ve had a good run. but Intel pulling out of 5G means they will refocus on their core cou and server business again…..So AMD might have about 2 more good quarters before things really start to get competitive…
I sold my qualcomm holdings yesterday to diversify… speaking to my parents, I found out recently they still hold a lot of shares since 1996 when I working there and told them to buy. They never sold a single share, so one of us needs to diversify. Apparently they’ve also held on to Intel since 1981ish… it’s because of that why I don’t hold a single Intel share. there were times that both these companies fell big-time .. it was a wake-up call that I needed to spread out the risk. yeah, more passive index funds for me… lol

Well they had their fair share of suckers… They sold Apple before jobs took over at a loss and bought companies like webvan lol…I told them not to do that but hey, those were irrational times… Surprisingly they bought Facebook post IPO when I went off on not doing that….i guess it was good they didn’t listen to me… it’s a crapshoot imho…. which is why I think I like this indexing thing…
They mistakenly told me to buy stocks instead of real estate because at that time their real estate was sucking wind… I listened to them when I was younger, and in hindsight that was a mistake. should have bought real estate and less stocks…It took until the 30ies before I realized that mistake.
Anyway I think Qualcomm is the first supplier that successfully put the screws to Apple …Apple deserves it… As a someone that formerly worked at a company that was also their supplier, they were a major dirt bag to work with, almost as bad as Samsung. It’s about time someone screwed them over.
As far as Intel, 5G ends up being like 4G which was like their WiMax… DOA…
Intel marketing was saying how 5G was ready and showing off chips that where basically fake non functional units…. lol…

INTC/CSCO in the 2000s. Maybe MSFT, AAPL, AMZN these days.-

INTC/CSCO in the 2000s. Maybe MSFT, AAPL, AMZN these days.[/quote]I dont know. Its just these days my risk appetite has fallen off a cliff. The saying goes when you are you gder, you can afford to take risks because you have nothing to lose.. As you get older, you spend most of your time trying to protect what you built. I can see that.
So I’ve been combing through all the individual stocks I own and figuring out who owns what, and removing duplicate investments just in case things blow up (again). For some of these high flyers, taking half off the table.
The exception is AMD .. I don’t own any shares, just a bunch of call options that expires Jan 2020, some of which were bought when AMD was $2.50-3/share, some when it was $20-22/last year. I’ll need to do something before the end of the year because they expire in 2020, and I’d rather book the gains this year versus 2020. Hoping for a good Q1 and Q2 to get out.

I think Intel bought an AI company here in SD, I think it was called Nervana Systems or something like that. So they will probably just retool and put them to work on that

Morning Brief: Judge rules Qualcomm violated antitrust law
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/u-judge-rules-qualcomm-practices-102725422.html
I was feeling kind bad that I missed the rally up to the 80ies by selling off early ..but I guess maybe not so much now …
But don’t worry folks. Qualcomm has been dubbed an American “crown jewel”… So I am pretty sure we will see some executive orders in the future that will exempt Qcom after a Twitter storm….I am being serious …
In the short term…back down below $70/share from the $80ies you go ….
Maybe pick up some shares back in the $60ies….after I ditch AMD…hopefully a slew of good news at Computex with Ryzen 3000, Epyc Rome, and Navi Gpu will hype it up.
Unrelated .
The Ryzen 2700x is awesome. I bought the 50th anniversary gold edition with the digital etched signature of Dr Su. Thank you team red for the past of outstanding ROI.The 2700x sustem was cheap to build , and now with all the security issues with Intel CPUs and those security patches slowing things down 16% at best,…Ryzen 3000 at 7nm will bring very interesting competition to this table….and PCI 4.0 with the x570 chipset.
Time to upgrade again….

ParticipantAnyone buying Tesla? I bought some and am now down, but as usual don’t plan on selling til it goes back up. Perhaps this will be the first stock I will lose money on. It definitely goes against my better judgement of only buying dividend stocks that actually make money. If the $7000 rebate gets re-implemented it should help, not sure if the China connection will hurt them or not.

I don’t know. I just convinced our it Dept to hold off another Xeon server purchase, and they are going to go with a new Epyc Rome server when it’s available…
We are already using second generation Threadrippers for some engine related work…..
I think Intel is in trouble , at least for 2019….They are still having 14nm capacity issues and 10nm is still not available yet. OEMs include Dell and HPC are already ramping up OEM builds with AMD due to the Intel CPU shortages..
Ryzen 3000 series on 7nm launching 7/7 along with Navi on the new architecture…maybe the tides will change in 2020..
but so far $329 for a Ryzen 3700x is a pretty compelling reason why AMD is eatting Intel’s lunch.
AMD has locked in the higher end GPU to cloud gaming offered by Google, Microsoft, and also consoles like PS5 and supposedly the next gen Xbox. It is the going vendor for Apples higher end graphics systems…. And Apple eventually supposedly is ditching Intel x86 for ARM.
I am going to wait until Intel’s fog clears which probably won’t be until 2020
Things are trading on lofty expectatios on this generation which seems like will be on target. 2020? who knows.
I am wondering which company will hit $40/share first.. AMD or Intel.

ParticipantAt under $40, it would be worth holding on to INTC through 2020.
It’ll be at <9 P/E, if you take a safety factor of 10%, it's still under 10.
And you'll be getting a 3% dividend.
Seems rather safe to park money there compared to other companies.AMD is sitting at 30+ forward P/E.

Did you read this?
https://semiaccurate.com/2019/06/05/a-look-at-intels-ice-lake-and-sunny-cove/
If any shred is true, Intel is in serious trouble with 10nm...
10nm slower than 14nm, and even with an 18% IPC gain, 10nm that's not going to be that great...
Semiaccurate was pretty dead on about the server fiasco and 14nm shortage...
And if the leak from china is true, it's pretty telling.. Blue dot is ice lake 10nm... Red dot is 14nm.

ParticipantAlthough Ice Lake has a 18% IPC gain, it can’t reach the same turbo speed as its predecessor. If you account for the slower clock speed, it turn out to be only about 5%. Until they can crank it past 5GHz.

ParticipantI’m not sure it’s new news that INTC 10nm isn’t so great. The question for 2H19 – 1H20 is how well is the ramp to 7nm.
For INTC, the question isn’t really about market share loss, it’s how much loss the analysts expect vs what happens in reality. -

Intel sure seems to be still marketing and claiming that 10nm ice lake is going to hit volume production and improved performance over all the previous 14nm products… It just screams misrepresentation.
And I would take talk about Intel’s 7nm with a grain of salt… The same way Intel was claiming that their 5G baseband chip was “production ready”, even showing a supposedly real picture of it… Except semiaccurate figured that 5G chip picture was just a photoshop of a previous fake 4G chip …… People didn’t believe semiaccurate at the time too… Well, we know what happened to Intel’s 5G chip….
If at all, it seems like Intel’s become a big company that over promises and under delivers, things that AMD was once accused of doing.

What I’ve read is, Intel’s 10nm is eqivalent to TSMC’s 7nm. So, I think the more important question is, how quickly can they ramp up their 10nm and how high can they push their chip on 10nm. -

There is one irony too. Intel spent $Billions to create 5G chips for the mobile phone market. We can agree that Intel’s revenue will be $0 from this….. On the other hand,
AMD spent $0 to create chips for the mobile phone market. We can agree that AMD’s revenue will be more than $0 and could be $billions in this market, with the Samsung partnership ….. -
