CoronitaParticipant
Moved most of my cash into the stock markets. Left some cash for a down payment for a house. The money that were already invested in the markets were shifted from safer “value” mutual funds to small caps. So far it has worked out quite well (or as well it can be given how much the market tanked in early March).
Cool!
I nudged my bi-weekly auto investments into funds up to 40% of my bi-weekly income, up from previous auto investment of 25%. I also changed the concentration from 60/40 stock to slightly 65/35. There were a few individual stocks I picked up, nothing earth shattering though. Someone bought my old company Broadcom and made a 40% gain from the volatility over a few weeks, good for them. Seems to be working well for those that caught some of the deep discounting earlier…. Interesting times!
I’m happy to hear piggs not needing to cash out their 401k’s and retirement accounts to pay for their bills as some people unfortunately have to do. I guess we’re the lucky ones.
CoronitaParticipantSure, if you say so. Nevermind. I’ll say what people want to hear so everyone can feel equal. Everyone is screwed (not really), but I’ll say it anyway. IT support and consulting probably impacted though. it was heavily commoditized even before the virus. We’re in the process of trying to kick out one consulting firm supporting one business because internally it could be done with FTE’s for much cheaper.
I think those that were buying things when oil went negative will be handsomely awarded in the long run. Not just oil, but when everything was tanking out of fear. Good job folks. lol
CoronitaParticipant.
CoronitaParticipant
yea. Just hope everything gets back to normal soon.
Market up on new treatment progress.I really miss being able to dine out LOL.
I was WFH about 1/2 the time anyway before so that part is not so different.
I don’t. I never really ate out. Not really a foodie…Even after bans are lifted, I really don’t want to eat any prepared food that I didn’t personally nuke in the oven or stove myself. But that’s just me. Don’t plan on attending any indoor venues either until we got confirmation either there is no second wave of infections or if the second wave is small. I’m sure others will feel the same way.
I wouldn’t worry about the economy, in your case. A good portion of the tech sector seems to be doing ok. The biggest impacts seem to be in the service businesses and hospitality and things hanging off of those things.
CoronitaParticipantI’m preparing to invest heavily into flattened assets. waiting for the dust to settle. lots of businesses won’t make it due to bad timing and bad luck.
CoronitaParticipantIf you make it to the end of this year alive and healthy that’s already a pretty good win.
As an added bonus,
If you still are employed with little to no impact on your income, that’s also a win.
If your passive income has stayed the same or close to it, IE people are still paying you rent, that’s also a win.
If your portfolio is break even or you can eke out a gain, that’s also a win.
And if most of the above all is true, count your blessings and have a drink. Most other people probably are not as lucky as you.
As far as everything else, pass time by doing the things you’ve been procrastinating with. I’ve made a lot of progress with my garage and cleaned it up finally since moving in more than year ago. Added new shelves, sorted out a bunch of stuff. There’s all these tools, parts, etc that I bought that I forgot I had. And there’s two project cars I’m in the middle of restoring. Kid is picking up photography, which is great because I stopped using my D-SLR for a long time. Glad it’s being used.
CoronitaParticipant
Interesting times.
I hope things get back to normal soon, Not sure how long the fed can continue to fill all the Gaps.
But I have been surprised so far.
Meh. Not really in your control, and they can kick the can down the road as long as they want. However, I’m sure if you peel back the noise, there really hasn’t been that much difference to your bottom line. You strike me as someone relatively safe(r) in your investment strategies. This is going to redefine the service industries though. It’s not as much as people aren’t going to have a job to go back to… That might be the case. But I suspect for many, they won’t want to go back to some of those service jobs in the short-mid term. A lot of things will change. Just look at the buying patterns… Seems like urban apartments are falling out of favor. Back to the suburbs…
Resource sharing probably will fall out of favor. (Ride sharing, house sharing, etc).
CoronitaParticipantSan Diegiuto Unified went to Pass/No Pass grading option for the remainder of this semester. Also, with no SAT/ACT requirement, it’s going to be interesting to see how these kids get into college relative to all the other schools that still do regular grades and kids that took the SAT/ACT.
CoronitaParticipant
My point was that I think banks are going into cash crunch due to retail (physical stores) not paying rent etc… therefore mortgages not getting paid.
Fed will probably stop gap the banks. REITs might be in trouble though.
CoronitaParticipant
Starting to see something I last during 2007-2008 just before the crash.
Banks offering higher interest than fed and cash incentives to open accounts (trying too raise cash/deposits).
there’s almost no point in putting money in a CD. My CD’s are maturing and they are going from about 2.5% to 0.5% I’m just going to keep it liquid until something better comes along. Money market sweep account earns about 0.5% right now too, lol.
CoronitaParticipantKaren #9: The anal retentive Karen
This form of Karen gets pissed off when someone uses their trashcans and feels a need to vent on nextdoor to vocalize her grievances to an audience.
Using my trash/recycling bins The Grooves
It is not legal to dump trash in your neighbor’s trash cans. I believe there is a fine.It is really frustrating, remembering I have more to toss out after we put trash cans out for pick up. I open up recycling bin , and someone has dumped their week’s worth of fast food trash in there. Fast food is trash not recycling!
This has happened many times, I never catch them because they wait until late to do it.
It’s not that big of a deal if I have room, you ask, and you put in the correct bin. Also don’t overflow my bins, again.
It’s my service, so I’d like to use my bins, even it’s last minute.
CoronitaParticipant

Not long ago these Karen’s were the high power women exec types.
Even a song about them:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7aDstrDMf0%5B/quote%5DOh we are BIG cake fans at our house! Seen’em live in Grass Valley!
The wild times I’ve had with this song playing, oh my…
lol
CoronitaParticipantI changed my mind. If you still have a mortgage, get one if you can, for up to a year. Why not?
I’m really curious how this is going to work out so please do report back how it works out for you if you plan on trailblazing this.
Logistically, I’m also curious how would this work wrto mortgages with an impound account that’s paying for the prop tax and insurance once you stop making payments. Do they still pay and you have a negative balance on your impound or do they stop doing the impound and you need to deal with the insurance and prop tax payments?
CoronitaParticipantHere’s a couple different types of Karens
Karen #1: The Pissed off I Need to Vent Neighbor Karen:
Summary: Karen was pissed off that one of her neighbors at the cul de sac had a party and was loud, but rather than be like most adults and talk the neighbor(s), she decides to rant about it on Nextdoor to get the empathy vote.
“I need to write this letter to you because, over the weekend, the constant 7-hour loud noise of the families at the end of Cul de sac on Corte de Marin was unacceptable.I am a child therapist and advocate for children and truly believe in the magic of play and fun. At the same time, children need to learn respect for their fellow humans.
To have six plus kids barreling down the road and all literally screaming is simply not fair to anyone. The parks and beaches are now open, and it is a workweek. Please please allow us to work in peace.
We are a community, and everyone matters.Thank you”
Karens #2: The Parnoid Karens: Summary Suspicious looking man that drove by XXX at time YYY that didn’t look like they belonged there. This gets written about all the time by Karens.
“At about 5:40PM this evening, my husband was driving into our Cul de sac (Ruette De Ville) and noticed a running car pulled over on the side of the road and a person in the car was shining a flashlight into a dark window of one of the homes. The dash cam picture didn’t get the plates or car very well but may be a dark colored Toyota Camry. Has anyone else seen this? Please be aware.”
Keren #3: Bad drivers all abound Karens… These Karens get annoyed by people speeding and terrorizing the san diego roads..
“What can we do about speeding, reckless and distracted driving in Carmel Valley? Just today I was driving down Del Mar Heights Rd. and a white BMW, license plate (actually plate number posted) came by me at 90+ mph. This isn’t the first time this has happened – everyday I see it on Carmel Valley Rd., El Camino Real, the 56 and of course the freeway. At 7 am the other morning when I was walking my dog, within 5 minutes I saw 2 cars run a red light, 1 person distracted on their phone, and 2 people roll through a stop sign. Rarely do I see these drivers get pulled over by law enforcement.
School will be starting soon and there will be more young drivers, cyclists and pedestrians out on the road. Which means more opportunity for crashes, injuries and deaths.
We must be able to do something to stop these dangerous drivers in our neighborhood however I’m not sure what the answer is. I’d love to hear your ideas. I think it is getting worse not better and I fear for my life every time I get on the road. I am going to ask the Carmel Valley Planning board to put this on their agenda and I hope you will attend the meeting with your thoughts.”
Is this your kid’s car? I was driving west on Del Mar Heights today around 1:15pm. This car passed me around 60 MPH and then proceeded to weave through traffic at a high speed. The car was FULL of kids who were laughing and having a good time as the driver “shook” them like a roller coaster: left, right, left, right. Slowed down, speed up. Made lane changes across 3 lanes. Ran yellow, almost red, lights. Tires were screeching loudly as they turned left into the Highlands shopping center. It was soooo dangerous. As a parent with a teen, I would want to know if this was my kid driving like this. I hope the parents see this and can have a talk with this teen before they injure someone (or themselves).
Karen #4: The Coronavirus Enforcer Karens. These are the ones that go around and complain about everyone violating social distancing
Really! Is this social distancing?
Hello everyone
I understand this is a difficult time for everyone. However I am disappointed seeing some of our teenagers hanging out at ocean air rec center playing basketball!
I would ask you to talk to your kids and let them know why it is important to stay home and that it will not only put them but your whole family at risk!
Thank you so much for your help and understanding
Social Distancing Reminders
Many children in our neighborhood are being very good about social distancing – thank you! However, several children need more reminders – particularly those on scooters and bikes (where the distance should be even greater- 15 ft.), and even more so for those riding on sidewalks. A few days ago I saw a young biker pass a runner too closely. The runner asked the boy to stay away. In response the boy circled back a few times, again too close to the runner, to taunt her. Please remember to remind your children and keep our neighborhood safe by adhering to the social distancing guidelines (6-15 feet).
Karens #5: The Nosy Karens: Summary: whenever there is a large police or fire presence in the neighborhood, they have to know what’s going on.
From the sounds of it, they are listening to the police and fire dispatcher 24/7/365 days a week because the moment there is a siren, there is a nextdoor post!
What’s going on major sirens like I’ve never heard so many and a helicopter. Del Mar Heights.
Anyone know what’s going on right now? Major helicopters and sirens anyone know what’s happening out there?
Karens #6: I’m better than you, move your POS Camry parked in front of my house Karen.
I got to dig this one up. It was laughable.
But in summary, it was about a Karen complaining about how a suspicious looking Camry was parked in front of her house, and she was mad that on her street of “C-executives” that anyone would park a jalopy like a toyota camry on their street, let alone in front of her house. Other Karens then chimed in that perhaps the “lowly” camry belonged to a housekeeper, lol.
Karens #7: The racist Karens
Unfortunately, I don’t have any examples from Carmel Valley, but in other areas that I was a member to (Mira Mesa, Rancho Bernardo) and as friends that copied me from further north county, there were some pretty funny ones, that basically if the person didn’t look white, the person looked suspicious.
