How would you prepare if you believed the next four years will be on the level of The Great Depression?

Marry hardy spouse.

Buy nothing.

Give up meat.

Walk or bike as much as possible.

Never eat or drink out.

Bake own muffins.

Give up booze.

No debt.

Meditate.

Get a library card.

The real issue is what’s on the other side of the depression.

I’d say virtually everyone says unstoppable progress and wealth. The same as the last 90 years but better!

I plan to buy real property at the bottom…. but interest rates are as low as possible already, so I don’t see how asset prices will get propped up by low rates like happened after 2008.

I had an interesting conversion with a friend about this.

Yes, the world will progress and it will be better than the last 90 years. But maybe not for the USA. We are a divided and sclerotic society and there will be all kinds of recriminations after this. Just like the war on terrorism, we will waste a decade fighting over the perfect preparation for the next outbreak. Hell, we can even move on with universal health care that all developed countries have. Covid is making lack of universal health a glaring weakness of our society. Even Taiwan, a not too long ago third-world country, has better health than we.

In addition to health care, deficit and spending, we are going to have the same old fights over infrastructure, such as more freeways over high speed rail and intermodal transport, and renewal energy, while other countries, especially in Asia race ahead.

Also if one believes that a depression is coming, and if one is highly leveraged, one should default on debts now to conserve cash for bad times to come. That would be prudent.

Not because of bad timing or bad luck, but because of leverage and a business model incompatible with the new reality.

People borrow a certain amount counting on another amount in revenue to support debt services and expenses. In the new reality, fixed costs remain but revenues are cut.

Millions of highly leveraged real estate investors who counted on appreciation but who have little positive cash flow will lose their properties.

only things I’d add to this list is try and get a good nights rest and eat a healthy diet (i.e. stay away from processed foods)

This seems so basic, but by not drinking, I dont get up to pee, which improves my sleep a lot, because sometimes I couldnt go back to sleep due to racing thoughts.

But racing thoughts are only a problem in the middle of the nite, not when falling asleep the 1st time. So if I dont drink, I dont get up to pee, and I always sleep the nite thru, at least 4 the last few alcohol free months.

Why am I so dumb it took me 57 years to figure out alcohol is bad 4 me. Habits
Weakness. Crutches. Self medication.

Now is a good time to make small adjustments that can have big impacts

I can feel that there is deep healing occurring when my sleep is top quality. What higher health priority is there ahead of sleep and food?

Answer: NONE.

If I had to pick one, I’d pick sleep.

Sleep will get you thru times of no food Better than food will get u thru times of no sleep

I dont know if healthy people sleep well, or people who sleep well are healthier, but I agree, sleep is incredible medicine. It should be top priority in health care.

My wife barely sleeps, I think her consciousness doesnt ever plummet as low as mine. I am truly outstanding in this department. I wish there were some acclaim or status I could get, but all I have is a wife who sometimes has to smack me to wake me up.

I am of the opinion that if you walk 15 plus miles per day, you will absolutely sleep well.

As for food, sometimes the supermarket strikes one as barely having any food. Just boxes of chemicals with food sprinkled in.

To eat non processed.. its
..unamerican… and oddly labor intensive.

Here’s a 1 min. Pandemic Recipe for tons of fiber,

Put instant oatmeal in bowl.
Sprinkle chia, flax seed and hemp seed on top.
Add almond butter.
Throw banana in if you have one.
Add rapidly boiling water.
Stir for 1 min.
Honey to taste.

Totally agree. It amazes me the junk Americans consume.

That’s basically how i have my oatmeal too. I use whole oats because I don’t like it creamy. I let the oats sit in hot water for 10 min. I add some cut dried fruit such as dates or figs.

I’ve been working on a screenplay. Comedy. I work on it while walking. I carry index cards.

I crack myself up.

I’m pretty sure I look like a mental patient shambling along and chuckling and scribbling.

In my area many people go out in little motorized golf cart vehicles. No walking. Whole families tooling around. Seems so unbelievably pathetically flabbily American. Beautiful evening…noisy dirty little gocart.

I saw a mom and a teen on her phone in one.

I’m try9ng not to be judgmental but I was filled with judgment.
