ParticipantActually I think it shows a significant number of Americans who were tired of nanny-state liberal wieners deciding what news was fit for the people. So in a sense I am glad there is a fox news to counter the propaganda wars in other parts of the media.
I’m the first to admit I don’t watch Fox News, because I think it’s all about style over substance. Of course I don’t watch smarmy little liberal news-shows either, which includes just about everything else outside of Cramer, and Scarborough.
Hannity I detest, O’Reilly is a blowhard.

ParticipantWhere exactly is SantaLuz? As you go along 56, it’s obviously not in the Westview school area since I saw Rancho Bernardo mentioned, as it’s school system. I realize that Westview and RB are both Poway schools, I just mean that for some reason I had the impression Santa Luz was along the 56, when clearly it must be inland a few miles.
Also is there any decent connector from the highway that goes from RSF to Escondido, that allows you to get into Rancho Bernardo? We have some old friends from Ohio that moved out here and everytime the kids want to get together it’s a pain driving from Encinitas to RB. I keep thinking “man there must be a way to cut through”, so I end up just doing 5-56-15, because the back way ends up taking me so far north of my RB exit it isn’t worth it.

ParticipantGood for him going to Baylor. My wife went to a Texas school where they had a special deal for missionary kids. I went to a methodist school for undergrad, and a catholic school for masters, though neither decision was for religious reasons, it was more of a proximity situation.
I don’t think JG needs to speak for all of piggington, the whole site isn’t hostile towards christian schools.

ParticipantVista has been a flashpoint for illegals and locals clashing.
I sometimes have to take my kid to Vista at 5:00 for baseball practice, and I just hate the drive. I work near UTC and my drive back to Cardiff, is often better than the drive from Cardiff to Vista. There is no good direct route to get there, if you go up 5 and across 78, you waste a lot of miles, and risk 78 being at a standstill.
If you use surface streets, you can find a more direct route but you’ll be sitting at a lot of red lights.
I’ll rent forever before I move too much farther northeast, including San Marcos. I am sure it’s a fine place but for my driving conditions, the hell with it, I’ll rent.

ParticipantAt the risk of sounding pedantic, Waaaahhhhh.
Sheesh, maybe the perma-bulls or those coming for all viewpoints should start a blog about riding the fence with regard to the internet bubble.
Oh I forgot that stupid SDCIA site is out there for the Perma-Bulls. In any case most of the griping is from people who fundamentally disagree with PS’s predictions. Hell I don’t know that I agree either but it’s much more interesting when she is posting.
BTW I completely disagree with a whole lot of PS’s foreign policy posts, but I never wanted her banned. I certainly don’t want to see one of the flaming liberal brits or frenchy’s banned just because their worldview doesn’t match mine. Why should disagreement over the bubble mean any more to you whiners?

ParticipantOf course Texans are bigger, and that might explain why the Austin based football teams bitch slapped the SoCal team on their home field. Too many health nutty, vegans leads to less physical football teams?
Ah hell I am generalizing as much as Concho, once in awhile you see a tough player from out here.

ParticipantThat was an excellent writeup speeding bullet. I am still up in the air about applying for the position. I previously looked at one in Monrovia, and decided against it, and may do the same this time. However I think I can now play around and see what rentals are in a few areas to see if it’s worth leaving SD. Encinitas seems like a better place for kids, easier to find reasonable rents, however entertainment seems to be a growing industry, and one of our top exports.

ParticipantWell the point is I don’t know LA enough to know what the upper middle class hispanic areas are. We always fit in well because my wife was raised in Honduras, but at the same time I don’t want my kids to be where the gangsta’s hang out.
My wife actually goes and helps the families at school events (open houses) who don’t speak any English to facilitate questions to teachers, so it isn’t like we are a complete cocoon. At the same time I think as long as I make a decent check avoiding bad neighborhoods is the right decision.
I have been in San Diego for a little over a year, though I was on travel for 6 months before totally relocating here so I truly do not know LA that well, and am curious.
So I’ll rephrase this to ask what are the upper middle class, safe, family oriented towns, with great schools (regardless of demographics) around Hollywood?
CardiffBaseball
ParticipantI was curious about applying for a job up there, but decided against it. The position was near the NBC Universal building, just north of Hollywood (I guess), I am not sure what area that is called. It seemed like parlaying my skills to enter into the Entertainment industry wouldn’t be a bad idea so it still bugs me a bit.
In any case having a couple of kids who like to go outside and throw a ball around, it seemed like a rough area to try and move to. I hadn’t considered these South Bay areas mentioned. I tend to prefer stale white dominated areas for school district purposes. Yes I know it’s boring, but it seems to do us well.
Sounds like from here there are some areas. It looks like when you get east of Hollywood, the demographics really change. I have mixed feelings about hispanic dominated areas. If you cruise around Bonita you see people out jogging, park activities, basically great neighborhood activities. However the whole gang thing up there makes me want to avoid these areas so I was looking at rentals around burbank and didn’t see a whole lot that makes me want to leave San Diego.

ParticipantIf that house sold for $689, then I’ll be renting a long time or leaving SoCal, which would be pretty easy to do in my field. Sure the coastal areas aren’t supposed to drop that much but this place only went from $755 to $689, for a tiny home sitting right on top of I-5.
Since the $755 was FSBO and the $689 was by Realtor, the owner got a lot less out of it but I can’t help but stare that someone sees that place as worth that much. A couple of nice upgrades, but still less than 1100 Sq. Feet., one-butt kitchen. Maybe they are have or plan to have kids and wanted in the school system.
I guess now I get to watch how long it takes for the girl who has homes on Bulrush (over a year for sale) and Freda to unload. She went back to FSBO, and might be running out of cash, though she still has plenty of play. She clearly didn’t invest that much in the homes.

ParticipantMy point in asking was that I thought there was some standard calculation out there that if you can’t get 8% of the outstanding value, then the renter is ahead on the deal?
While 4% is what the market seems to be asking, isn’t that a losing propostion in a flat or declining market? At least for new investors it must be a deterrent.

ParticipantWhat about In-and-Out Burger? I can’t have one of those?
And as discussed before the marinated tri-tip (especially the chipoltle) is to die for. Fatty content be damned. Of course you can’t afford to eat that stuff daily. The leftovers used to make great spinach salads for lunches.
